Residents of Cedar Falls, Tyler Schmidt and Sarah Schmidt, died inside their tent on Friday morning in the Maquoketa Caves.

According to Mayor Rob Green, Sarah Schmidt worked at the Cedar Falls Public Library. He claimed to be a frequent walker in the Sartori Park neighborhood and to be well acquainted with her and her family. On a tech presentation for a public library, he was collaborating with her this week.

According to a statement from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Maquoketa Caves State Park Campground before 6:30 a.m. on Friday. Police found three people who had been shot to death inside a tent at the campground, according to DCI associate director Mitch Mortvedt.

According to the authorities, a triple homicide at the Maquoketa Caves State Park campground was reported at 6:23 a.m. on Friday to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.

The police came across three deceased bodies. A camper was later found to be gone by police.
