Sanghmitra Maurya Career

After completing her MBBS, Sanghmitra Maurya commenced her professional journey as a medical officer at the district hospital in Pratapgarh.

Despite dedicating some time to her medical career, Sanghmitra eventually chose to shift gears and explore a political path.

Her political journey began in 2010 when she contested the Zila Panchayat elections from Etah in Uttar Pradesh.

Sanghmitra initially aligned herself with the Bahujan Samaj Party, running for the Kasganj seat in the 2012 elections.

However, her impact was limited, and she faced a setback. Undeterred, she contested the 2014 elections from Mainpuri, representing the Bahujan Samaj Party, but faced defeat against Mulayam Singh Yadav.

In 2016, Sanghmitra Maurya decided to resign from the Bahujan Samaj Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Within a year of joining the BJP, she was encouraged to run for the elections in the Padrauna constituency, but she declined the opportunity. Instead, she took on responsibilities in organizing BJP’s Parivartan Yatra in five districts and played a role in the party’s women cell.

In 2019, Sanghmitra, now on a BJP ticket, entered the Indian general elections from the Badaun constituency.

In a significant victory, she defeated senior Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav, who happens to be Mulayam Singh Yadav’s nephew.

As a result, Sanghmitra Maurya secured a position in the 17th Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India.

Her contributions didn’t go unnoticed. In July 2019, Sanghmitra became a member of the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes.

Later, in September 2019, she was elected as a member of the Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

Sanghmitra Maurya’s journey reflects her transition from a medical professional to a prominent political figure, actively participating in India’s parliamentary affairs.
