Tragedy struck on Monday evening as a Lakeland mother and two of her children lost their lives in a devastating accident along Kathleen Road.

In a tragic incident, Mavaria Carter, a 33-year-old resident of Lakeland, along with her two children, a 6-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, lost their lives in a devastating two-vehicle collision. The accident occurred on Kathleen Road, in close proximity to Quincy Street, situated just south of the Memorial Boulevard flyover.

It has been reported that two additional family members are currently in critical condition.

According to reports, the Lakeland Police Department arrived at the scene of the crash which happened at precisely 7:46 p.m. in the 900 block of Kathleen Road Monday evening.

According to police, it has been reported that Jeremy Felton, a 30-year-old resident of Lakeland, was operating a 2015 red Cadillac SUV while travelling south on Kathleen Road. It is said that Felton proceeded to enter the left turn lane with the intention of making a turn onto Quincy Road.

20-year-old Jeremiah Rivera, a resident of Lakeland, was driving a 2016 black Dodge Challenger which was heading north on Kathleen Road, precisely in the outside lane. According to police reports, Felton initiated a left turn and proceeded to cross the path of the Challenger, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles.

The Cadillac was carrying five passengers. The vehicle spun in a clockwise direction, ultimately veering towards the northeast. In a devastating collision, the Cadillac forcefully collided with a utility pole, causing significant damage. The vehicle eventually came to a halt, bringing an end to this heart-stopping sequence of events. According to police, Felton and three children were ejected from the Cadillac. Rivera skillfully manoeuvred the Challenger, coming to a halt on a verdant patch of land situated on the eastern side of Kathleen Road, a short distance north of the Cadillac.

According to officers, it has been reported that neither the drivers nor the three children in the Cadillac were wearing seatbelts at the moment of the collision.

According to police, Felton has been transported to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Centre, where he is currently in critical condition. It has been revealed that he is the brother of Carter, whose 14-year-old boy is currently hospitalised in critical condition.

Rivera has been transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Investigation is ongoing.
