Lately, I’ve noticed women — both young and young-at-heart — wearing these beautiful fur stoles. In my opinion, they elevate any outfit to a new level of sophistication.

I love any accoutrement that will help me trudge through the cold weather while keeping my sartorial prowess intact! I recently purchased this faux fur version a few weeks ago and I can’t wait to wear it to a holiday party in the next couple of weeks. I just love the pop of white towards the end!

I don’t wear real fur, but if you do and can afford to add it to your wardrobe — then more power to you. However, for those of you on a budget: there are so many brands offering realistic faux fur alternatives. So you’d be hard-pressed not to find a stole that suits your personal sense of style.

I think fur stoles pair really well with form-fitting dresses — perhaps an LBD or this festive little number. They’re also convenient on those days you want to forgo your heavy parka. Also, don’t worry about emitting old-lady vibes, there are so many clever ways to style this cozy accessory that it’s nearly impossible for you to look outdated.

Invest in a beautiful fur stole. A mink or fox stole can add glamor to an outfit, or it can really make a suit stunning. You can use the stole in many different ways on many occasions. A stole around your shoulders or neck can instantly add class to any outfit. You can find vintage stoles at many boutiques and resale shops, or you can purchase new stoles from reputable furriers.

The colorful faux fur stole has been my favorite accessory this winter. It has a way of immediately making any outfit look super luxe. But upon buying this one from Nordstrom’s Halogen x Atlantic Pacific collection, I felt totally intimidated by how to style it. That’s why I wanted you to avoid the same fate, and so I’m sharing my favorite three ways to wear a faux fur stole.

It can definitely be A LOOK. So start small; try one in a basic color like navy or black. Also, they come in all sorts of lengths and widths. This one from Nordstrom is a little wider than I would’ve liked for petite size ladies. For reference, I’m only 5’4.

Three Ways to Wear a Faux Fur Stole

Going out to dinner….Cinch it with a belt over pants and a sweater

Slinging it over your shoulder and cinching it with a belt has been my favorite way to wear it. This is perfect for a winter night out. It’s deceivingly warm!

Going for a weekend brunch…one shoulder with or without a belt over a coat

Similarly, try the one shoulder look over a coat for an extra chilly day. This would be great for heading to brunch with friends or even on your way to work. I wore this for a Sunday lunch date with a friend at a food cart.

Leave off the belt for a more casual look.

Going for a daytime errands…wear it as a shawl

Use it as a luxurious (and toasty!) shawl. Often times, it feels like you need to wear a faux fur stole with a really dressy outfit, but hopefully this dispels that myth. This is a great way to incorporate the accessory over a more casual look.

I threw this on over a denim button down, black jeans and sneakers to walk around the city with my husband one afternoon. The best part of that, you probably have all of those things in your closet!

You may have noticed that things got pretty furry on this season’s runways.

Designers from Jason Wu and Michael Kors to Creatures of the Wind and Cushnie et Ochs went full on Game of Thrones by draping models in over-sized luxe statement making fur stoles. These aren’t the fur stoles your grandmother wore, they are packed with bold color, interesting patterns and texture.

Whether faux or au natural, paired with evening-wear, edgy looks or ladylike luxury fur stoles are a seasonal must!

So how do you translate that runway cool vibe to your closet?

Believe it or not fur stoles are one of the most wearable runway trends this season!

I myself am not a fan of real fur and all the ethical conundrums that come with it so I will be making my Winter is Coming statement in faux.

This Ah-mazing midnight blue faux fur stole entered my life during a shopping trip with a client at Nordstrom. I spotted it in the window and then convinced several employees and the entire visuals team to begin a 2 hour quest to locate it for me! Three days later it arrived at my door!

It is EVERYTHING! The color…OMGorgeous!

Wearing a fur stole or fur scarf is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. I prefer to pair with a clean minimalist look and let the stole make the statement.

I began with a sleek all black look and put together a quick guide for you of three chic and easy ways to wear a faux fur stole/scarf this season.

ONE: Classic Drape.

This style looks best when paired with a collared jacket. The faux fur fits snugly underneath the collar and the stole adds some extra oomph to a minimalist silhouette. You can drape around the neck and over both shoulders like I have done or sling it over a single shoulder.

TWO: Pinned to the side.

Sometimes you don’t need a jacket but want to add a little Silver Screen glamour to your look. Drape your stole around the back of your neck with one side being slightly longer than the other. Next take the short side and loosely drape it across your chest until it touches the longer side. Use a brooch to secure it in place right above the chest. This is a great way to show off all those vintage brooches that are gathering dust in your jewelry box!

THREE: With a Belt

Street-stylers have been going gaga over this styling technique. The second this look debuted on Jason Wu’s Fall runway social media fell in love.

Take the middle of the stole and place it over one shoulder, then offset the ends a bit so that the front side is a bit shorter than the back. Now take the two open ends and pull them across your body so that the stole is basically a furry sash. Take a thin belt and place it a waist level over the fur ends and tighten it up.

I like the look of the front fur on top of the back piece but you can play with it and see what works best for you.

Adjust your shawl’s natural drape. The wider your shawl, the more fabric you will have to drape.

How to Wear a Wrap

Check the length of your wrap. For example, shorter wraps will have less fabric and are better wrapped around the neckline, while a longer-length wrap can go around your shoulders.

Fold your wrap in half. Position it behind your neck at the half way point of the folded wrap. You will have the fold in one hand and the open ends on the other.

Open the fold. It will appear like an open loop. Insert the open ends into the open loop. Gently pull the ends through.

Adjust your wrap by gently pulling the ends downward. The loop will begin to close. You can choose to adjust the wrapped loop towards one side or wear it in the center.

I love faux fur. I think it’s a glamorous, chic and cozy fabric that can give your outfit a whole new twist.

This is the second faux fur stole I have, and although my sister keeps telling me I should stop buying them, I do will buy more! Maybe one each winter.

For my second faux fur stole (by Zara), I decided to match it with an all black outfit, (one of my favorite kind of looks), creating some contrast between both colors (which are also my two favorites, including red).

If you are like me and love faux fur, or you just started thinking about getting one piece with this fabric, let me tell you that wearing them is very easy.

Wether you wear it like a scarf around your neck, hanging lose on one shoulder or crossed between your chest, a faux fur stole will absolutely change your whole outfit vibe.

I would recommend you to wear it with a coat or blazer with simple lines, without much adornment, thanks to the flashy nature of faux fur. The best would also be that you keep your outfit simple.
