How to watch apple’s live stream events on windows android and linux

Updated @ 12:38, October 16: If you’re trying to watch the live stream of Apple’s iPad event on Windows or Android, the following instructions (which were for the iPhone 6 event in September) should still work. The only thing you need to change is the network stream URL, which is: — just put that into VLC once the event starts, and you should be good to go.

Original story, from September 9

Later today, Apple will unveil the iPhone 6 at a special event in Cupertino, California. Somewhat unusually for Apple, it will be broadcasting a live video stream of the event — but, for reasons we still can’t fathom, Apple restricts the official feed to people watching on an iOS or OS X device. Fortunately, if you’re a Windows (or Android) user, we have a couple of solutions for watching live video of Apple’s event.

Updated: Apple’s event has now finished. Read our stories about the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the Apple Watch, and Apple Pay.

11:47am: This post has been updated with (probably) the correct stream URL, but we will confirm that it works when the stream actually goes online.

12:49am: The correct network stream URL is: — this is confirmed to be working at the time of publishing. (I am watching it).

The one true video player, VLC, has a lot of features that you probably don’t know about — including the ability to open network streams, which is exactly how Apple is broadcasting the event (but only to people using Safari). A network stream is basically a real-time feed (video or audio) that’s being broadcast onto the internet — and if you have the right tool, you can tap into it.

If you don’t already have VLC for Windows, download it. (These instructions will also work for VLC for Android, but obviously the interface will look very different.)

Click Media > Open Network Stream . You will see a dialog that looks like this:

Copy and paste this URL into the network URL field:

If you’re using Firefox or Chrome, and you have VLC installed, you may also be able to just paste the URL straight into a browser tab. Your browser will recognize that it’s a network stream and load VLC as a plug-in.

If everything works as intended, you’ll hear an annoying bip-bop sound effect and some kind of TV test pattern:

Note: This is not the actual September 9 Apple event stream. We don’t yet know the URL for today’s event — but hopefully we’ll find out before the event and update this post.

Updated: This is the correct URL for today’s event: — but until the feed actually begins, we can’t confirm.

Alternatively, use a re-stream

The other option — and perhaps the only option if we can’t uncover the network stream URL for the event — is to watch one of the many re-streams that will pop up on Ustream. These re-streams take the official feed and re-upload it so that non-Apple/Safari users can enjoy it. The Live Tech Keynotes channel on Ustream is one of the best places to watch re-streams of Apple events — and it looks like they’re already all systems go for today’s iPhone 6 event (embedded below).

In the past, one other method has worked: If you install Safari and Quicktime for Windows, the official event stream might work. Since Safari for Windows hasn’t been updated for over two years, though, this method may not work any more.

Finally, you can always tune into our own live blog of Apple’s iPhone event. (And don’t forget, if you go down the VLC route, you will need to come back here to get an updated network stream URL!)

In just a few hours Apple will be taking the wraps off its latest smartphones, iOS 9, and possibly a new game-centric Apple TV. The event is scheduled to start at 10am PDT/6pm BST, and as always it will be streamed live so you can tune in at home or (maybe) work.

Apple likes to preach to the faithful, so there are the usual restrictions in place. Live streaming the event requires Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5 or later; Safari on iOS 7.0 or later. Streaming via Apple TV requires second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 6.2 or later. This year, there’s another way to watch as well — using Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

Assuming you have what’s required, you can watch the keynote live here.

If you have a Windows PC running an earlier version of Microsoft’s OS, a Linux box or an Android phone or tablet, you can still watch the event, but you’ll need VLC Media Player installed. Assuming you do, open it, and click on “Media” at the top left. Go to “Open Network Stream” and paste in the network URL of the live Apple event which is:

This link won’t go live until the event begins.

We’ll also be live blogging the event, so even if you can’t tune in to the live stream you’ll be able to keep up with the news from Apple.

In just a few hours, Apple will be taking the wraps off its latest smartphones, the iPhone 7 and dual-camera equipped 7 Plus. Will Apple ditch the headphone socket as rumored? Will we get our first glimpse of the Apple Watch 2? We’ll find out soon enough. Microsoft is hosting a special Windows event later today where we’re expecting the company to unveil Windows 11. Microsoft has been teasing a “next generation” of Windows for months, and a leaked copy of Windows 11 suggests we’re going to see a number of changes during Microsoft’s event today.

Microsoft is expected to focus on new UI improvements to Windows, including a new Start menu, rounded corners, and more simplifications to using Windows 11. We’re also expecting to hear more about a new Windows store that will offer better access to apps, and some multitasking and gaming improvements to Windows 11.

What to expect from Microsoft’s Windows 11 event

The event should run for around 45 minutes, which gives Microsoft enough time to talk through the important aspects of Windows 11 ahead of a deep dive for developers later today.

WHEN DOES THE WINDOWS 11 EVENT START?

It starts at 11AM ET / 8AM PT / 4PM BST. Following the event, a special developer session will also be available to watch online at 3PM ET.

Today, Apple is holding a (virtual) keynote on the first day of its developer conference, and the company is expected to talk about a ton of software updates. At 10 AM PT (1 PM in New York, 6 PM in London, 7 PM in Paris), you’ll be able to watch the event right here as the company is streaming it live.

As usual with Apple’s developer conferences, you can expect to learn more about the next major updates of the company’s operating systems. Get ready for iOS 15, iPadOS 15, a new version of macOS and some updates for watchOS and tvOS as well.

But Apple could also use this opportunity to unveil some new products that are particularly popular with developers. Apple has already shipped several laptops and desktop computers with its own ARM-based M1 chip.

High-end models haven’t been updated yet. Rumor has it that Apple could use today’s opportunity to unveil a new iMac Pro, updated MacBook Pro models or even a new external display.

You can watch the live stream directly on this page, as Apple is streaming its conference on YouTube.

If you have an Apple TV, you don’t need to download a new app. You can open the Apple TV app and find the Apple Events section. It lets you stream today’s event and rewatch old ones.

And if you don’t have an Apple TV and don’t want to use YouTube, the company also lets you live stream the event from the Apple Events section on its website. This video feed now works in all major browsers — Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.

Rumor has it that Apple plans to unveil a brand new iPad Pro. In particular, Apple’s tablet could get a big display update as the company could switch to mini-LED displays. You can expect some better specifications as well.

But that’s not all, we expect to see a refreshed iPad mini. Apple could also be ready to release AirTags after many months of rumors and leaks. As always, the only way to find out is by watching the event.

You can watch the live stream directly on this page, as Apple is streaming its conference on YouTube.

Looking for a specific event? Try searching for it or contact the organization hosting the event regarding their event’s livestream.

Watching an event on Livestream can take place in any of the following ways:

Livestream Event pages work on most major browsers on Windows and macOS. We recommend using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari when viewing Livestream from your computer. It’s best to update your browser whenever possible.

If you are having trouble viewing a live event on Livestream, it’s possible the producer is sending the stream at a bitrate higher than your connection can handle. Check your download speed at We also recommend clearing your browser’s cache and ensuring your browser is updated to the most recent version.

Live video streamed to Livestream is viewable on most iOS and Android mobile browsers.

Open the browser on your mobile device. You can either type in and use the search tool to find an event you are looking for or type in the full URL of the event you are looking for if you know it.

When you arrive at the event page, click the play button on the player in the browser to open the live player. The same applies to any event whose live player is embedded on a different website.

Any public event on Livestream can be viewed via the Livestream mobile app. This is available as a free download for both iOS devices in the App Store and Android devices in Google Play.

You will need to log in to a Livestream account. If you don’t have an account you can sign up for one directly from the app. Enter your name, email address, and create a password. You will be able to access your account immediately.

Once you are logged in, you can follow accounts and search for accounts and events.

There are two ways to use your Apple TV device to watch events on Livestream.

Livestream tvOS App

The Livestream app for Apple TV is available for download from the App Store on Apple TV 4th generation and higher.

Once you install the app, there is no need to log in. You will find all featured content and categorized content immediately on the main screen. Use the Apple TV remote to navigate the app.

If you are looking for a specific event, there is a search function in the upper-right corner of the main screen.

Selecting any live event will open a live preview. Click the Watch button to watch the event in full screen. You can also watch any events that are available on demand.

Please note that any events that are password protect or privatized in any way will not appear in the Livestream tvOS app.

Apple Airplay

We also offer a workaround for viewing with Apple TV via Apple AirPlay. Apple provides information here on which generations of iOS and Apple TV devices support this feature.

First, be sure your Apple TV and iOS device are connected to the same WiFi network.

Launch the Livestream app on your iOS device and log in to your Livestream account.

If you do not have an account, select Continue with Email, then Sign up to create an account.

Once you are logged in, navigate to the event you want to watch. You can do this by tapping the navigation menu icon in the upper-right corner, and select Search, Home, Following, or Popular.

When you navigate to the event and see the stream playing back, tap the player and you will see the AirPlay logo in the upper right corner.

Tap the logo and your Apple TV will appear as an option in the menu that pops up.

Select your Apple TV, and the stream will send to your TV in seconds.

Please note the quality of the stream is dependent on what bitrate the producer is sending it and the speed of your Wi-Fi connection.
