How to snake in mario kart ds

Your IP address has been temporarily blocked due to a large number of HTTP requests. The most common causes of this issue are:

  • If you are using Maxthon or Brave as a browser, or have installed the Ghostery add-on, you should know that these programs send extra traffic to our servers for every page on the site that you browse. Using GameFAQs regularly with these browsers can cause temporary and even permanent IP blocks due to these additional requests.
  • Some unofficial phone apps appear to be using GameFAQs as a back-end, but they do not behave like a real web browser does. This triggers our anti-spambot measures, which are designed to stop automated systems from flooding the site with traffic. Continued use of these apps may cause your IP to be blocked indefinitely. There is no official GameFAQs app, and we do not support nor have any contact with the makers of these unofficial apps.
  • Using a script or add-on that scans GameFAQs for box and screen images (such as an emulator front-end), while overloading our search engine
  • Running a “scraper” or “downloader” program that either does not identify itself or uses fake headers to elude detection
  • Using a badly configured (or badly written) browser add-on for blocking content
  • Overusing our search engine with a very large number of searches in a very short amount of time

Any tips or tricks to beating the staff ghosts in Mario Kart DS?

4 Answers 4

One of the best tricks, if you aren’t keen on learning how to ‘snake’ is to make sure you choose a vehicle with a full rating for ‘items’. These vehicles will start with 3 mushroom boosts, as opposed to 1 or 2 for vehicles with a lower rating. If you get 3 boosts, you should be able to find the optimal location on the track to use 1, and then use one each lap in that perfect spot. (@reply me if you need helping picking the spot for a certain track, I’ve beaten most of the ghosts, and all of the missions and cups with a full ranking.)

Learn the route around the course very well. On many tracks, it’s beneficial to take a vehicle with high offroad tolerance; ‘DK Pass‘ is one of the more notable ones. However, as long as you have 3 mushroom boosts, you should be able to use one each lap to take a sizable shortcut offroad, depending on the track.

Take advantage of the terrain. Many tracks are loaded with moving parts that can help you get ahead (many of them will also, quite readily, help you get behind!). For example, on the Tick-Tock Clock track, you’ll notice two large, vertical gears on either side of the track, just before the finish line. Make sure you drive over whichever gear is rotating forwards to get a really handy speed boost (the gears should change direction every lap, so keep an eye out).

Another tip, is to try and maximize any kind of speed gain you get, from any source. For example, after passing over the gears mentioned above, start bunny hopping continuously, as rapidly as you can. When you do this, your deceleration is slowed, and you get to feel the effects of the speed gain for longer. Just make sure you don’t bunny hop off of the edge of the track! I could be wrong, but I think this works slightly better with heavier characters.

Make sure to choose a vehicle with a drift that you are comfortable with. Great drifting is essential to beating most of the staff ghosts. A vehicle with a very large drift radius may cause you problems on most tracks, but it’s really up to you. Perfect the art of the ‘drift boost’:

Drift Boost: Start up a drift, and then quickly steer the opposite direction, and back a few times. If you do it too fast, it won’t work, but if you get it right, you will generate red sparks under your wheels the first time you do it, and blue sparks the second. Once you have the blue, let off the drift to receive a boost!

Performing this technique in rapid succession back and forth around as much of the track as possible is referred to as ‘snaking’, and if you want to give it a shot, I personally recommend the Dry Bomber vehicle (it has one of the longest drift-boost durations of any vehicle). You shouldn’t have to snake to beat any of the staff ghosts, but you will need to take advantage of the drift-boost at every opportunity you get. On tracks with a lot of corners, I again recommend the Dry Bomber as the lengthy drift-boost time can really add up when used often during a race.

Hope these tips help, and if you have any questions, feel free to @reply me in the comments! Good luck!

I know how to power slide and everything, but when i try to snake i just can’t get the sparks quick enough , or i just crash into the sides, Am i doing something wrong. Please give me a tutorial, And dont refer to a video, I’ve watched all of them and none of them help AT ALL.

How to Snake in Mario Kart DS

If you need to resort to snaking to win, then you probably aren’t very good in the first place.

Snaking my not be cheating, but it seriously ruins the game. Once one person starts snaking, everyone starts snaking to catch up, and the game gets seriously BORING and unfun.

I would say I’m an pretty awesome snaker, but I never use it online.

But here’s a tip anyway. To snake better, choose someone with high acceleration but very low drift. Good handling also helps to not oversteer and crash into walls. SO basically, you want high acell and handling, but very low drift. The rest is just getting the rhythm down to activate the sparks, which is something that cannot be taught. You have to develop the rhythm on your own.

How to Snake in Mario Kart DS

Snaking is not a shameful habit but rather a bad one. It is hilarous when one person gets shelled while snaking as they will spin more than normal. Mini boost one side, then the other (Best done on straights)

How to Snake in Mario Kart DS

Snaking is the loser’s way of winning, I remember when I had that game and everyone was doing that online and I was like WTF. Seriously snaking ruins the fun of playing that game online, its not technically cheating but its a shameful tactic.

This page contains a list of cheats, codes, Easter eggs, tips, and other secrets for Mario Kart DS for Nintendo DS. If you’ve discovered a cheat you’d like to add to the page, or have a correction, please click EDIT and add it.

respawn speed boost

If you fall off a cliff or something, Lakitu brings you back up from the abyss and then sets you back on the track so that you can resume the race. The moment your wheels touch the ground, start accelerating to receive an extra little boost. Though this does require precise timing, it’s not so hard once you get used to the process.

Last Place Item Trick

This is a strange maneuver but worthwhile to try. When you start any given race, allow yourself to fall into last place. Then, grab an item. Because of your last place status, the game will give you an exponentially higher probability of grabbing a great item (like a Star, Bullet Bill, et cetera). Then, work your way past the last place players until you’re in third or fourth place and use your good item to make your way towards first place.

Block Shells

To block red and green shells from scoring a hit on your vehicle, try to hold a banana peel, a red shell, or a green shell of your own behind your go-kart. This will block any shell from hitting you, so you can continue the race unhindered.

Hint – DK Pass and Yoshi Circuit

DK Pass . When you see the ice to the right of you when you’re racing, get ready. Near the end of the ice, to the left, there’s a hill with some trees. Climb up the hill with a play that goes moderatley fast over snow and grass and all that (I usually use Dry Bones with his Standard DB), and on the very tip of the hill is an item box. Even if you’re in first place, this item box will give you either 3 mushroom boosts or a star!

Yoshi Circuit . Where the hand of Yoshi is you can see that there is grass leading to a pit of water. Because of that you’ll have to drive around the ‘hand’. Well, if you have Dry Bones Stanard Kart again, you can jump across the gaps. Drive in to the grass, and press the drifting button right when you’re on the edge, and if you’ve done it right you should land on the other side of the track. Unlike the DK Pass cheat, this doesn’t work with most karts. Try to find one that works! You casn also use mushroom boosts with any kart to go through.

Alternate Ending Screen

You must complete all the classes with gold trophies on all cups, which includes mirror mode.

Hint – Snaking/Drifting

Snaking will help you win races by a long shot. To snake is basically powerslide. Mastering snaking can be tricky. To powerslide, press R button while turning either way and shifting the D-Pad left and right at a medium speed until your sparks on your Kart turn red. It usually takes only four left/right/left/right/ motions to get a powerslide, depending on your speed. Once you master the speed of how you powerslide, you can start to snake.

This will mostly help you get three star ranking on your Grand Prix races. You can also use this method online, which many users do. (Including myself) To snake, powerslide a certain direction. After that, either hop or turn sharply the other way and do another powerslide. Do this for most of the race, and depending on the track, you can win it easily rather than those that do not snake.

Hope this helps anyone! I’ve taught this to many friends and now they are really good at Mario Kart DS, and it’s fun to snake!

Shroom Packing Time Trials

Any kart that has a full statistics meter in the items category will have 3 mushrooms in time trials.

Unlock Starry Names

To affix stars to your name in a wi-fi battle, just race all the grand prix races (including mirror tracks) and earn at least one star in the ranking. The number of stars earned during your grand prix career will be reflected in your wi-fi standing.

Burst Start

Hold A just after the two begins to disappear for an advantageous start.

Unlockables

Leaf Cup . Achieve gold on Shell Cup and Banana Cup
Lightning Cup . Achieve gold on Leaf Cup
Star Cup . Achieve gold on Mushroom Cup and Flower Cup
Special Cup . Achieve gold on Star Cup
More Kart Choices . Achieve gold on all courses in 100cc, 150cc, or 150cc (mirror) Nitro Grand Prix
150cc Mirror . Achieve gold on 150cc Retro Class (all courses)
Daisy & Dry Bones . Achieve gold on all courses 50cc Nitro Grand Prix
Waluigi . Achieve gold on all courses 100cc Nitro Grand Prix
ROB64 . Achieve gold on all courses 150cc (mirror) Nitro Grand Prix. Alec Ritter maintains beating just the Nitro cups unlocks ROB.
Final Mission . Achieve one ranking on all courses for all missions one through six

Blue Shell Block

First place racers can shoot a bomb backwards just before a blue shell hits to stop it from scoring a hit.

Hint – GBA Sky Garden

These are three neat tricks you can use but they are difficult to master. However, if executed tight, they will drastically reduce your lap time and overall racing time, and can give you a SHARP edge over other competitors. To execute the first trick, you must have a mushroom and a kart that has a high acceleration and a good drift. I prefer to use on of Dry Bones’ karts, such as Dry Bomber or Standard DB.

1. On the straight before you see two ramps in front of a sharp right curve (one is a rainbow ramp and appears to the left of a brown ramp), avoid both ramps and keep left of both of them. After the left turn there is a curve that goes to the right. Instead of turning right, go straight off of the side, use your mushroom and press [RB] to hop over the gap and land on the other side of the track. Make sure you are hold [RB] to drift back on course, or else you may fall off of the side. You can save some vital time with this strategy.

2. For this trick, I use a kart that is moderately fast in off-track driving, like on grass, or in this case, clouds. Again, I prefer Dry Bones’ Dry Bomber. Before the second green bridge there is a cloud placed in between the gap of the track. Use your [RB] to hop onto the cloud and press again to hop on to the other side of the track. This can save you a lot of time. (***If you are skilled enough, you can powerslide over this cloud to speed across it, making for a faster shortcut.)

3. There is a misconception that you need to use a mushroom to pass over the second brown ramp (from earlier, the one beside the rainbow ramp before the sharp right curve). However, if you use a kart with high acceleration and good handling (again, I prefer the Dry Bomber. You gotta love that thing), then you can powerslide onto the ramp and speed across it. Step 1: Drift towads the ramp angling to the right. Step 2: Power Drift angling towards the ramp. Step 3: Let go of [RB] to hit the off-track and shoot across the ramp.

It happens to all of us. You’re ahead of the pack, clearly in first place, when someone launches the Spiny Shell (aka, the blue shell). It catches up and circles you before crashing into your kart, and there’s seemingly nothing you can do about it. But what if I told you there are two ways to avoid this fate in Mario Kart Tour?

In Mario Kart Tour, blue shells can actually be dodged. With the right item or some expert driving, you can avoid the Blue Shell explosion and continue your dominance on the track. Is it easy to accomplish? No, but if it were everyone would do it. The methods below do take some practice. But once master, you can crush the dreams of your opponents as you continue your lead despite the desperate last effort.

Method 1: Destroy It

The easiest way to avoid getting hit by the Spiny Shell is to destroy it, which can only be accomplished with one item, the Super Horn. The Super Horn (the red box with yellow speaker) will block the Spiny Shells from hitting you, effectively destroying it.

To use it, you need to wait until the Spiny Shell arrives and spins around you. Right before it hits you, activate the Super Horn. This will repel the Spiny Shell, and you can continue unharmed.

Method 2: Avoid It

If you don’t have the necessary item to destroy it, the only other option is to avoid it. There are two ways to accomplish this, both of which are pretty difficult to pull off right. The first is to slip back into second place and hold just long enough for the blue shell to pass you and hit the new first-place driver.

While getting into second place isn’t too hard, the problem is staying close enough to re-take first while keeping enough distance to avoid the blue shell’s blast radius. The best way to keep your distance is to use Slipstream. It’s not easy, but with practice, you can use this method to not only avoid blue shells but get in first place at the start of the race. Check out our guide below on how to use Slipstream.

The other method requires either the Triple Mushroom or Mega Mushroom. With the item on hand, as the Blue Shell is preparing to crash on you, activate the Mushroom to boost ahead and avoid the explosion. You need to activate milliseconds before it crashes for this work. If you use the Mushroom too early, the blue shell will simply chase you to your current spot. I won’t lie, this method will require a lot of practice. But it’s something you should learn since Super Horn is pretty rare.

Note: If the site loads slowly, we’re currently trying to find the main cause of this.
But the good news is, it’ll only load slowly for the first time, after that, going to any other page will go really fast.

I know I’m not Yami, but I believe that you need to have MKDS Course Modifier, since its specifically made for the game.
Edit: Also, just do the last step of replacing the files.

In MKDS there are two types of models: The high poly which is the one that is animated and controlled by you, and the low poly which is used by everyone else except for you. (Not animated but has arms forward)
Either you replaced both models with the high one, or the model doesn’t have the hand sticking forwards like the others.

And to answer you question on your other forum, use MKDS Course Modifier or EveryFileExplorer to extract, and Blender/Maya for editing models and the such.

GAME INFORMATION

Overview

The next step in Mario’s popular racer the Mario Kart series is Mario Kart DS which utilises online play for the first time so you can go head to head with gamers in other countries with ease!

There are a variety of single player grand prix options available giving a total of 32 different races, many of which are not initially available and will need to be unlocked by beating the earlier cups/races.

Of the grand-prix tracks, there are more than a few that you’ll recognise from past Mario games such as Mario Kart 64, and the SNES version of the game but there are also four brand new tracks. The classic difficulty modes of 50cc, 100cc and 150cc have been maintained in Mario Kart DS.

To begin with you get to choose between eight classic Nintendo characters, but as you progress through the game there are a lot of new characters to unlock. Each racer has their own set of stats some are faster than others, some will corner better, and some will accelerate quicker – these are all things to take into account when choosing your character.

Not only are there new tracks and characters, there some imaginative new powerups too including the new Bullet Bill power-up, when a player gets this they transform into a Bullet Bill and for a brief time the computer takes control of your player and quickly aids you in catching up with and overtaking your opponents. Also, remember the Blooper squids from Mario’s past? They’re back and this time not as an enemy but a power up
that if used properly can get ink all over the players ahead of you’s screen – its not easy to drive with a windscreen covered in ink. the final new addition to the power ups is bob-omb, another classic Mario enemy reintroduced as a powerup – this is self explanatory, you can launch it ahead of yourself, and like most bombs.. it explodes!

Aside from the classic grand-prix modes there has also been a new mode introduced whereby the player must complete a number of tasks within certain time limits to succeed. There’s all sorts of new challenges adding yet another element to an already great racer such as driving around circuits backwards, hitting every boost while taking corners and much more. At the end of each set of tasks you’ll get a “boss” fight, which must be beaten before doing the next group of tasks – this may involve a 1 on 1 race against the ‘boss’ of that set of tasks!

Undeniably though the Main advancement from its predecessors is the outstanding multiplayer capabilities of the game.

For almost thirty years we’ve been driving like maniacs, questioning the meaning of fairness and ending friendships in Nintendo’s Mario Kart series. So why not end a few more by trying to rank these games from worst to best.

The series has evolved over the years, from a simple racer based on the Mushroom Kingdom to a kind of motorized Smash Bros., drawing in racers and tracks from across the Nintendo universe. And as it’s got older it’s got bigger, going from a mere karting game to something that has since let us drive quads, bikes, hovercars and even two-seat mobile weapons platforms.

As is often the case with Pecking Orders, the idea here isn’t really to rank these games from worst to best, because even the ones down the bottom of the list are still loads of fun. It’s to pit these classic against one another, to see not just which one comes out on top, but why.

And spoilers: as these games don’t change too much over the years, course design and new features count for a lot, especially when it comes to multiplayer, meaning that while the list will indeed reflect the idea that “newer games do it better”, it’s far from a procession based solely on a game’s age.

Unlike a previous version of this list from 2014, this time the whole staff has chipped in with opinions, which means it is 100% correct, definitive and we will be accepting no dissenting opinions on the matter.

Note: we’ve excluded the arcade games on two grounds, one that loads of us (and you) haven’t played them, and also because so much of their content, from tracks to sound effects, is recycled content from mainline games (in a more literal way than newer console games including older tracks).

Note: Anyone viewing this on a desktop can move through the slideshow by clicking the arrows down below. If you’re on mobile, just keep on scrolling!

We’ve got to start somewhere, and this is easiest place. Concessions had to be made to make the game work on mobile in an economic sense, we get that. You can’t release a phone game in the last decade without tying it to some kind of bizarre money-making scheme.

But the game itself could have been so much better. Emulation of classic Nintendo games is at the point where many people could play Double Dash on their phones if they wanted to, so to offer up such a compromised version of the series as an official release is a crushing disappointment.

By the standards of 2019 mobile game releases, it’s fine? But by the standards set by the rest of this series, Mario Kart Tour is a comfortable last-place finish, no red shell required.

Description

Mario Kart DS is the continuation of the long running racing game series that began on the Super Nintendo. It features 16 new tracks as well as 16 tracks from the previous 4 games, with each set split up into the Nitro and Retro Grand Prix respectively. Eight racers are initially available, each with two go-karts to choose from. A number of characters and additional karts are also available to unlock. New items have been added to the arsenal, including a Blooper squid that squirts ink onto the screens of other players and a Bullet Bill power up that transforms the player into a giant, fast-travelling bullet on autopilot.

One of the features of this version is its support for online Internet play through Nintendo’s WiFi service. MKDS owners can challenge up to 3 other people in Grand Prix mode on 20 of the 32 tracks. Players can also match up with friends by trading “Friend Codes” that are generated based on the DS that is used and the copy of the game owned. Custom emblems to use on karts are supported through the game’s paint program.

Battle mode is also present with 8-player support and 6 tracks. This time, there are two modes to choose from: “Balloon Battle” and “Shine Runners.” Balloon Battle is similar to the previous versions of this mode, with the exception that every player starts with only one balloon, and 5 in reserve. Players can have 2 additional balloons by either holding the Select button while standing still to inflate them, or by blowing into the DS’s microphone. “Shine Runners” tasks players to collect “Shines,” with the winner being the one that has the most.

New to the series is “Mission Mode,” which consists of a series of single player objective-based missions. Each mission takes place on a section of a race track and tasks the player to accomplish goals not normally seen in the other game modes. Such tasks include picking up coins on the track, using items to take out enemies, and racing through numbered gates. Missions are split up into 6 sets of 8, with a 9th mission for each where players must battle against a boss character.

Local wireless multiplayer is supported for up to 8 people in Grand Prix, VS, and Battle Modes. Time trial “ghost” data can be shared as well, and DS owners who don’t have the game can use the Download & Play option to join in Grand Prix mode. However, non Mario Kart owners are limited to selecting Shy Guy as their character.

So, you may or may not know that there’s only one secret character to unlock in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

It’s Gold Mario and unlocking him is quite simple, yet also difficult.

In order to unlock Gold Mario, you’ll need to complete all 12 cups in 200cc. The good news is that in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch, you’ll have 200cc as well as all cups unlocked from the start, so you can go straight to 200cc if you feel confident enough.

Whilst there’s only one character to unlock, there’s a bunch of vehicle customisation options that you can unlock by collecting coins. There’s also three new vehicles in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe including two brand new Splatoon vehicles, which are both awesome.

We’ve listed all of the courses below, just in-case you want to keep track manually.
