How to share your screen on facebook messenger for iphone and android

Originally born within the Facebook app, Facebook Messenger took its own independent form in 2011. The app has since been hugely popular with over one billion downloads in the Google Play Store. Messenger is a video conferencing and instant messaging app that uses your Facebook friends list to create a contact book.

Recently, Facebook Messenger launched a function to rival its competitors in the market called ‘Rooms‘. This is basically a video conferencing functionality that lets you add up to 50 people to converse with at the same time!

    What is screen sharing?

As the term suggests, screen sharing is a function that allows a user to share the live contents of their screen with others over a video call. While other apps like Zoom and Google Meet have had the function for a while, Facebook is just introducing it to its Messenger app. The screen sharing function has come to be expected in video conferencing apps, especially for presentation purposes.

It should be noted, that while screen sharing itself is nothing to be worried about, you should always make sure that there is no personal data available on the screens that you are sharing or going to share. Once screen sharing is turned on, the participants on the call can see every move that you make on your phone screen. Basically, if you can see something on your screen, so can the people who you are sharing your screen with.

How to use screen sharing on Facebook Messenger

You can use the screen sharing function on both, the mobile app as well as the Windows app of Facebook Messenger. The function can only be triggered once you are in a video call. Here is how you can use the screen share function in Facebook Messenger.

    Facebook Messenger vs. Competitors

With support for group video calls and screen sharing, Facebook Messenger is now comparable to competitive platforms like Zoom and Google Meet.

One of they key advantages is full use of Messenger remains free, while Zoom and Meet both offer paid tiers which grant access to all features.

The free versions of Zoom and Meet have limits on call length and number of participants per call. Whereas Messenger allows up to 50 people to join a group call with no restrictions on time.

Another advantage of Messenger is most people already have an account. If you want to start a video call with friends and family, there’s nothing new they need to sign up for and learn how to use.

However, there’s a time and a place for a Messenger call, and a company-wide meeting is perhaps not the best fit for a casual platform like Facebook.

Given that Zoom and Meet are geared more toward professional use, paid memberships offer access to features that are not built into Messenger.

For example, businesses can record group calls on Zoom and Meet so they can be referenced later, while no such capability exists on Messenger.

    Recent Upgrades to Facebook Messenger

Facebook has been steadily upgrading Messenger’s capabilities ever since the global pandemic made people more dependent on online communication.

In case you missed it, here are some recent updates to Facebook Messenger that are useful to marketers.

    Messenger Rooms

Messenger Rooms – which is an feature designed specifically for group chats – has been upgraded with the ability to screen share with up to 50 people.

Users who create a Messenger Room will be able to specify who has permission to screen share with the group.

The ability to screen share in a Messenger Room can be given to just the room creator, or select participants, or all participants.

    Answer Customer Messages

An update rolled out to Messenger last month allows page owners to toggle back and forth between personal messages and customer messages.

For the first time, page admins can stay on top of messages without the use of separate apps.

    Facebook Messenger Desktop App

Facebook launched the first standalone Messenger app for desktop back in April, which is available on Windows and macOS.

Th desktop app offers a number of benefits over using Messenger in a web browser, the most valuable of which is unlimited and free video calls.

Screen sharing is a feature that I have always wanted and thanks to this pandemic, every communication app is adding this sought-after feature. Now, you can share your screen on Android and iOS devices while video calling on Facebook Messenger. You can share the screen in a one-to-one video call or in a group of 8 users. And if you are using the new Messenger Rooms feature then you can share the screen with 16 participants.

The best part about this new addition is that it’s available on a mainstream consumer app, unlike many enterprise video calling solutions. It will greatly help users who want to demonstrate how to do certain things to their non-tech-savvy friends and also allow them to co-browse the web. So with that in mind, let’s go ahead and learn how to share screen while video calling on Facebook Messenger.

    Screen Sharing on Facebook Messenger

    1. First of all, start a video call with your contact. After that, swipe up the pill and you will find the “Share Your Screen” option. Tap on it.
