Avid Waze users will be happy to learn the Google-owned mapping app will now let you send directions from your computer to your phone. That’s forward planning sorted.

Waze has launched a new feature that will help you plan a drive on your desktop and transfer it to your app. Given the company’s web Live Map is used by millions of Wazers for traffic conditions, construction block-ups and other trouble spots, this will come as welcome news indeed.

So, how do I use the new Waze feature?

It’s quite simple really. I tested it out on my personal phone (an Android device) and it was no trouble at all. It’s the same steps for iOS devices as well.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Log in to Waze on your phone.
  2. Then log into it on your desktop browser by scanning the QR code using your phone’s camera. If that doesn’t work (you might have Android version 8.1 or lower), use a QR Reader app instead.
  3. Point the camera at the QR code, open the notification and follow the instructions on your phone.

Logged in users will be able to view saved locations from the web and select these when searching for a destination. This avoids the headache of reentering frequently visited addresses over and over again.

You will also be able to plan a seven-day customised trip on the Live Map which is handy for occasions when you’re heading out to the same place at different times on different days.

Considering Google Maps has had a similar feature for a few years now, it’s good to see Waze is now onboard with the same functionality.

If you’re not a Wazer yet, you can download the app on Google Play or the Apple store.

Google-owned navigation app Waze now lets users send directions from the Waze website straight to the mobile app, thanks to an update announced this week.

How to send directions to waze on your phone from your computer
The change means Waze users can now plan and view their journey on a bigger screen via the Waze Live Map, which features real-time traffic information, and then send the details from the desktop to the Waze app on their iPhone.

To use the new feature, make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of Waze, then follow the steps below:

  1. On a desktop web browser, visit the Waze Live Map.
  2. Click the Log In button in the top-right corner.
  3. Scan the QR code that appears with your ‌iPhone‌’s camera to log in.
  4. Plan your route by setting an origin, a destination point, and when you want to travel.
  • Click Save to App.
  • Open the Waze app on your ‌iPhone‌ and you should see the pre-planned route ready to follow. If you planned to arrive at a particular time, the app will send you a reminder of when you need to leave, taking into account real-time traffic conditions.
  • Waze can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

How to send directions to waze on your phone from your computer

(Pocket-lint) – Waze has long been the driver’s choice as an app-based snatnav solution. It’s available on Android and iOS, it’s free and it works with systems like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so it’s easy to get into your car.

But there’s been a hole in its functions up until now. Waze will now let you plan a route using the Live Map on its website and send that from your desktop to the app on your phone. That means you can view the route on the big screen, confirm the exact location and see real-time traffic information, rather than just diving into the directions that you phone is suggesting.

    Here’s how to do it:

    1. Make sure you’re running the latest version of Waze, so hit those app stores and look for updates.
    2. Ensure that you’re signed into the app on your phone.
    3. Sign into the same account in the Waze Live Map. When you click the “log in” button in the top right corner, a pop-up will offer username and password boxes, or you can scan the QR code with your phone, which is much faster.
    4. Plan your route in the desktop app as normal. Once you’ve set the origin, destination and when you want to travel (now or to arrive at a particular time), press “save to app”.
    5. When you open Waze on your phone, the route will be pre-planned and ready to use. If you have planned a route to arrive at a certain time, you’ll get a reminder when you need to leave, based on live traffic information.

Overall, it’s a simple process and an easy feature to use that connects-up the great big screen website planning and the actual driving with the app.

These tricks will help you better navigate the crowdsourced directions app to get you where you need to go faster.

When you’re in unfamiliar territory, a friendly face to show you the way is a godsend. Waze sets out to do just that by delivering directions and tips from fellow drivers all around you.

The app started out as a local project in Israel but sold to Google in 2013 for more than $1 billion. Waze’s strength lies in its numbers: the more users who contribute, the better the information Waze provides. At last count, the service had 140 million monthly active users.

While some drivers are not happy that Waze has turned their secret backstreets into traffic-clogged thoroughfares, Waze is one of the most helpful mapping apps around. During the pandemic, it has offered services like adding medical testing centers as pins to its maps and has created special badges for stores that offer social-distancing measures like curbside pickup.

Here’s how to put your familiarity with Waze in the fast lane.

    Exit Strategy

Tell Waze where you’re going and when you need to be there, and the Planned Drives feature will tell you when to leave. On a computer, log in to Waze and click on the Live Map. Enter your starting point and destination info and then click on the clock icon to choose Arrive By and put in the date and time that you would like to arrive. Select Save to App and you’ll get a notification when it’s time to leave.

On iOS and Android, first make sure that you have given Waze access to your location and have allowed notifications. Then open Waze and select My Waze > Plan a Drive > Add a Drive and then enter your destination in the search bar. Scroll down to the time you want to arrive and click Save. You’ll then be directed to a page where you can select Tell Me When to Leave.

    Desk to Door Directions

You can map out your drives before you leave home with Waze Live Map. Visit the Live Map on your computer, put in your destination, and click Send to Your Phone at the bottom of your screen. You’ll get a QR code. Aim your phone camera at it and Waze will send you a link to your directions.

    Take It to the Limit

It’s hard to know your limits, or rather, the speed limit, particularly when you’re driving in an unfamiliar area. But Waze can display a speedometer over the map, and it has a speed-limit feature that can alert you when you’ve reached it or when you’ve gone over it by 5%, 10%, or 15% or 5mph, 10mph, 15mph, or 20 mph over it. Go to Settings > Speedometer. To see the speedometer at all times, toggle Show on Map to On. Scroll to Show Speed Limit and Speeding Threshold to set when you want an alert and toggle on Alert When Speeding.

    Don’t Drive Alone

If you want people to know where you are—either for your safety or because you’re that friend who always says you’ll be there in five minutes and you arrive half an hour later—you can share your drive. When you’ve mapped out your drive, tap Share Your Drive at the bottom of the screen, and you can send your route and location with messages, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or email.

    There Goes My Hero

Sometimes you’re in a jam of the traffic variety; other times you’re in a jam of a more urgent kind. If you’re on the road and need help, go to the Report button on the main Waze screen, and select Roadside help. Tap the Emergency call button to be connected to local emergency services, select Road assistance to get a listing and easy access to roadside emergency services, or select Fellow Wazers to flag down a fellow driver.

    Your Voice Is My Command

Distracted driving is dangerous driving. To minimize how much you have to look at the Waze screen, you can use Google Assistant to navigate, report, and control some functions, even on iOS. Go to Settings > Voice & Sound > Google Assistant and toggle it on. While Waze is open, you can say “OK Google” and talk to Waze. (Waze also supports Siri Shortcuts.)

    Something New

The Waze GPS navigation app now makes route planning even easier by offering the option to plan on desktop and then send the directions to a phone.

The Waze app from Google has gained a new feature that can help users to better plan their driving trip, by letting them create the journey on the desktop version and then have it sent to their phone. Features like this make it much easier to plan ahead and not have to worry about pulling out a phone at the last minute and then figuring out the same route. This new feature is available on both Android and iOS devices.

Waze is a GPS navigation app that allows users to submit real-time information, like car accidents or traffic jams on a particular route, and it’s free to download and use. The app allows people to receive alerts about traffic and other hazards on the road, including offering instant traffic alerts and subsequently changing the route to avoid traffic spots. The app also informs drivers about their arrival time, based on live traffic data, and even lets them know where the cheapest gas prices are along the route. Users can even choose which voice they want to deliver the directions, including celebrities like DJ Kaled and Kevin Hart, along with familiar characters like Batman and the Riddler.

As explained in a Medium post, it’s now possible to use the Live Map to plan a route, and then save the route to the app. To get started, visit the Waze website on desktop and then enter the destination point in the “Search for an address bar” in the upper-left corner followed by the starting point. Then either choose leave immediately or set the arrival time by clicking “arrive by” from the “leave now” drop down menu. Once the arrival time has been set, the optimum route will be displayed, including what time is best to leave. Click “Save to App” and a window with a QR code will be shown. To scan the QR code, open the phone camera and hold it up to the desktop screen, until the QR code is framed in yellow. A prompt will ask to open the Waze app before another to confirm identity — just tap the “Yes, it’s me” button. Then, depending on when the arrival time is set, Waze will let the user know when it’s time to leave, and the route will be saved in the app, under “Planned drives”.

Getting The Most Out Of The Waze App

To find “Planned drives” and the newly-saved route, open up the app and swipe right to access the account screen. Tap on the Settings icon in the upper-right corner and scroll down to find Notifications, where “Planned drives” is located. An upcoming drive will also be featured right on the account screen, both in “Planned drives” and underneath it, with the destination point displayed. Other options on the account screen include setting Home and Work destinations, as well as Favorites – frequently visited addresses. Another useful tip is to connect the Waze app to the calendar app as this allows Waze to remind the user when it is time to leave for an event. Those who want to, can also connect the app to Facebook events.

Users can also personalize the experience by changing the map display, including changing the car icon from an arrow to a racing car or the Batmobile. In giving people so many options to make the app their own, Waze is not just a useful app, but one drivers will want to use. Now, with the desktop feature offering a more streamlined experience, Google’s Waze app makes getting from Point A to B that much easier.

While Waze is owned by Google, for some reason it’s always felt like it was a little behind Google Maps in terms of some features. One of those features is the ability to send your navigation details from your computer to your phone, something that Google Maps actually allows.

    Send location directions by Waze

However, not too long ago, Waze actually enabled the feature. This is very convenient because if you’re using your computer to browse locations and plan a trip, you don’t want to have to repeat that process on your phone all over again. By sending those details from your computer to your phone, it will save you some time.

    What to Know

    • Open Android Auto, tap the Navigation icon, and choose Waze >Search >Settings. Change the voice and your route preferences.
    • To use while driving, connect the phone with a USB cable or Bluetooth. Tap Navigation >Waze. Say “OK Google” to give a command.
    • Not all Waze features are available while you’re driving, but you can use voice commands to navigate.

This article describes how to use Waze for Android Auto, which is compatible with Android 6 through 11. For Android 12 and later, use Google Assistant Driving Mode.

How to Set up Waze on Android Auto

Waze on Android Auto is a limited version of the app, in which you can use voice commands to navigate while driving, but not to send traffic and incident reports. You also can’t adjust settings, add or edit Favorites, share your location or route, or use any of the social features.

First, make sure you have the most up-to-date versions of the Android Auto and Waze apps, then check your Waze settings to ensure they’re to your liking, including routing preferences and navigation voice.

Launch Android Auto on your smartphone.

Tap the Navigation icon at the bottom of the screen.

    Choose Waze.

Alternatively, you can launch the Waze app on your smartphone.

From the main Waze screen, tap My Waze, then tap Settings.

Change the navigation voice under Voice & sound.

Adjust your route preferences (to avoid tolls, freeways, and other routes) under Navigation.

Add a Work or Home Destination in Waze

Consider inputting your home and work address to simplify voice commands, especially if you drive to work:

Repeat the first four steps above, then tap Search.

You’ll see a “Where to” search box; underneath that are Home and Work, as well as recent destinations.

    ” data-caption=”” data-expand=”300″ data-tracking-container=”true” />

Tap Set once and go, then enter the address or tap the microphone symbol and speak it.

Now, you can say “take me home” or “take me to work” rather than stating the entire address every time.

How to Use Waze While Driving

Whether you’re using your smartphone screen or a touchscreen console in your car, Waze for Android Auto works the same. You’ll receive visual and audio alerts about what’s ahead on the road, such as traffic, construction, or an accident. Use voice commands to start and end navigation, answer and make calls, and more.

To use Waze with Android Auto:

Connect your smartphone to your vehicle using a USB cable. Android Auto automatically launches.

You can also use Bluetooth, if you have that ability in your vehicle.

Tap Navigation at the bottom of the screen, then tap Waze.

You may have to double-tap Navigation to display the navigation apps.

Say, “OK Google” and tell Android Auto where you’d like to go. For example:

    • “Take me home.”
    • “Navigate to Union Square, New York City.”
    • “Directions to the Waffle House.”
    • “Navigate to work.”
    • “Drive to 188 Main St, Burlington, Vermont.”

If you use a touchscreen console and prefer to type, put your car in Park first, then tap the search field at the top of the screen and enter your destination.

To report traffic incidents, tap Reports, choose the type (such as traffic, police, crash, or closure), then tap Submit.

    Ratings and Reviews

    Editors’ Notes

People power meets the open road in this amazing navigation app. Waze’s crowd-sourced alerts come from real drivers, not algorithms, delivering info you won’t see anywhere else to keep your commute flowing. The friendly interface and convenient detour routing really help the app shine, and its social-network integration make road trips with buddies a blast.

Very helpful, but it has tiny bugs

I love Waze, it is now my favorite GPS system that I use almost everyday when I commute to school and work. I really like the warning about cops who are camping out on the road, objects on the road and many other things. The one thing that bothers me is the “Plan a drive” section, I have used this feature many times and for the most part I didn’t have issues. On the app it shows you any upcoming Planned drives you have before you have to leave, however it does not go away. I used to take my sister to a camp during the summer for about 2 weeks so I used this feature, and up to the present day it still comes up asking me to get ready to go to the camp when I never planned it. I have tried to put the option to “Delete this address” or just get rid of the notifications but somehow it just comes back after a few weeks again.
I tried to use this again and plan a drive last week, and it never told me what time to leave. I really like that feature because the app tells you what time is best to leave depending on the traffic at the time. However it is no longer working for me, I like this feature and I hope the developers can fix it.

I really love Waze, a lot of my friends claim how confusing the app looks when I drive and insist that I go back to the Apple GPS. But.. once you get used to it, you get hooked because of all the nice helpful features it has! Try it out, because you might just like it 🙂

    Battery drain, several issues

The battery drain when I use Waze is unreal. I was at 43%, opened Waze & drove for about 12 minutes, decided to add a stop. I looked at my screen and the low battery 20% alert was up!! All of my background apps were closed, and there was no reason for my battery to plummet that quickly. Sometimes my app won’t show my icon but shows the “shadow” of where it’s supposed to be. Another issue is that it doesn’t show all routes. I know a certain route isn’t normally the fastest, but I also know my city’s traffic patterns and it won’t show it. Also, I’m in the top 1%, but how do I know when I’m getting close to losing that prestige? How do I see if the population is catching up to me? Finally, the fact that it doesn’t tell you whether your destination is on the left or right is so irritating and basic that I’m shocked it’s not a feature. I wish there was a feature where you could customize which “hazards” to voice prompt. For example, I couldn’t care less about a car on the shoulder ahead, and it’s annoying to have my music interrupted by that stupid hazard alert. But I would want to know if there’s a pothole ahead, an object in the road, or a police reported ahead. Create a way to narrow down the voice prompts! Why do the other Waze avatar icons around me never move? Speaking of Waze “people” icons, please come out with more options!
