Instagram, as well as being a fun social network, is now a pretty decent editing app. You’re no longer just slapping over-the-top filters on low resolution images; now you can actually make considered edits. Instagram only posts photos with a max resolution of 1080x1080px, though. The photos most smartphones take are much higher quality than that. If you want the original photo resolution with your Instagram edits applied, you need to save them elsewhere. Here’s how.

Go to the “Options” screen.

Scroll down and, under the “Settings” category, turn “Save Originals Photos” on.

Now, when you post a photo to Instagram, a copy of the original with the edits applied gets saved to your phone.

You can also automatically save the photos you post to your Instagram Story. On that same “Options” page, in the “Account” category, tap the “Story Settings” option.

Turn the “Save Shared Photos” option on.

Now, when you post something to your Instagram Story, you’ll also have a copy on your phone. This is especially useful, since they vanish after 24 hours.

Then, tap the three horizontal lines menu icon at the top right of your screen.

Once the menu appears as a pop-up, select to go into “Settings,” it’s the first option at the top of the list. Next tap on the “Account” option, then finally hit up the “Original Photos” option which will show if you’re using an iOS device. Android users will see the option for “Original Posts”.

The Instagram app now gives you the option to automatically save down your Instagram imagery. Hit the blue toggle to “Save Original Photos/Posts.”

Now that this option is turned on, every photo you post on Instagram will also be saved to your phone’s photo library.

How to save other users’ Instagram photos

It’s really easy to save any Instagram picture or video to a private area of your Instagram app so that you can view them again at a time that suits you. It’s worth noting as well that when you save a post from someone, whether they follow you or not, they will not be able to tell that you’ve saved it.

To save a post, tap the bookmark icon that appears below it. This will add the post to your generic “Saved” folder.

Alternatively, if you want to save a post to a certain collection within your private saved area, tap and hold the bookmark icon. This brings up a pop-up of the Instagram collections you’ve already created, as well as give you the option to create a new collection. This is done by tapping the “plus” symbol.

Now, to see the picture or video you’ve saved and the collections you’ve created, go to your profile by tapping on the person-shaped icon, then tap the “Saved” option that appears in the pop-up menu. This will show you all your saved content.

As we’ve stated already, only you can see what you’ve saved, and the collections that you’ve created, and other Instagram users will not know you have saved down their content.

How to download Instagram photos using your desktop browser

Because of very valid copyright issues, Instagram does not let you download other users’ photos, either on a desktop browser, or on an iOS or Android mobile device. However, there is a slightly sneaky workaround that makes it possible to do it on a desktop browser. Do not use this for evil.

To download any image on Instagram open the image in a fresh browser tab. (Note: If you’re trying to open without being logged into your own Instagram account, you’ll need to right click on the image and select “Copy Link Address.”) Now land near the image and right click your mouse or other input device. You will see a menu pop up. Select “View page source.”

This will bring the page source code up in a separate browser tab. Scroll down through the code, or use your browser’s “Find” tool, until you see the first .jpg link you come to.

Copy just the URL text that appears between the two speech, or quotation marks. Paste this URL into another fresh browser tab. Once the image has loaded you can right click to download it to your computer as you would a normal photograph on the internet.

Spoiler alert: you have to do it on a desktop

Instagram is rapidly overtaking other social networking sites as the place to post your photos of selfies, lunch, and belly button lint. But what if, when you are scrolling, you want to save a copy of an image?

Unlike other sites, such as Facebook, it isn’t possible to right-click on an image and choose “Save As”. The “Save As” option is there, but you can only save as a HTML webpage, not in an image format.

Grabbing Your Version

If you are not too fussed about how big the picture is, you can just screenshot the screen then trim down to size. This is what I do a lot of the time.

But if someone has posted a truly sensational picture, and you want the full size version, then you are going to need to go a bit further – and it can only be done on the desktop, not your mobile Instagram app.

If you are on your mobile device when you first see the image, you will need to bookmark it to find it easily again. Just tap the bookmark icon to the right of the picture.

Now to go to your Instagram author page on a desktop and click on the “Saved” section. Now click on the picture you just bookmarked.

Now go to Instantgram which is a browser bookmarklet. Drag the bookmarklet from the rectangle on the page up to your browser bar.

Go back to the image in Instagram and now click the Instantgram bookmarklet once.

A new tab will now open with the full-size version of the picture.

Now you can save the image as an image and not as a stupid HTML page.

Why Instagram chooses to make downloading images this difficult is beyond me, especially when everybody these days knows how to make a screenshot. It’s also a bit awkward that this can only be done on a desktop computer and not on your mobile device.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that you may go to these extra lengths and end up with an image size not much bigger than what you would have got if you had simply screenshotted it to begin with. There’s no guarantee the original image poster uploaded something enormous to begin with.

Instagram does not allow users to download video, photos and profile pictures in their mobile app, even we can not preview profile pictures on Instagram using official app. Here is how to save Instagram profile picture.

There are two different methods to download instagram profile pictures. One is manual method and other one is by using third party apps.

1. Go to Instagram profile of the other user in the mobile app or desktop browser.
2. Click the three-dot menu icon and select ‘Copy Profile URL’ in the mobile app. On desktop browsers, simply copy the address bar URL.

3 . Now paste this URL in the address space of the web browser like Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
4. In the next step, hold down or right click on the person’s Instagram profile/DP. Click on open in the new tab option.
5. Edit the address bar and remove the size parameter ‘s150x150′ from the URL. For pc, it may show ‘s320x320’.

6. Go with the revised URL and you will see the profile picture in full size.
7. Right-click or hold over the picture in Chrome and select ‘Download Image’ to download it on your device.

2. Enter the instagram user name in the address bar field without @.
3. Click on the View DP button and open the profile photos in different resolutions.
4. Right click on the profile picture that you want to save and choose an option “Save image as.”

Step 1: Open Instagram on your Desktop

Step 3: Click on “Develop” at the top of your Safari web bar and then scroll down to “Show Web Inspector”
If it isn’t there, don’t panic! You can add it to your web bar by clicking on:

Step 5: Once the icon is blue, click on the image you’d like to save. You’ll notice the coding on the bottom of the screen will change slightly, this is ok.

Step 6: Click on the first arrow above the highlighted blue line, and right click the image’s URL -> open in new tab

Step 7: From there it’s as easy as right clicking the image one more time and sending it straight to your downloads.

Please take off the below part of the image URL.

This is resizing the image to a smaller pre-defined size. The below code may be /l480x480 or maybe a different size based on the image. The final image URL will be like this below

2. Launch the app, turn on the “FastSave Service” feature, and tap “Open Instagram.”

How to download images from Instagram — PC

Method two: Save-o-gram

Save-o-gram is the way to go if you want to download multiple images from Instagram at the same time. It’s an easy platform to dive into, and the best way to go if you want to download multiple images at a time. To get started, you’ll have to download the software from the official website and open it once it’s ready.

However, you can only use the software free for seven days. After that, you’ll have to dish out a one-time fee of $9, which is a fair price for those who download images from Instagram regularly.

1. Download Save-o-gram at and open it when installed.
2. Enter a username, hashtag, or link into the text box on top to see Instagram images.
3. Select the images you want to download.
4. Click “Download selected photos” or “Download as ZIP file.”

Alternative: Bookmark images on Instagram

If all you want to do is save images to view them later, you don’t need to download them to your device — you can just bookmark the ones you like.

The whole process is even easier than the methods listed above. You can open any image you like and you’ll need just one button. Here are the steps:

1. Launch Instagram on your device and find the image you want to download.
2. Tap the bookmark button below the image to save it.
3. To see all the saved images, head into your profile, tap the menu icon in the top-right corner, and select the “Saved” option.

You can download all of your own images as well in the settings tab. Just head to Settings, then Account, and then Original Photos. Here you’ll find a toggle menu for Save Original Photos. Simply set it to On and your phone will automatically save a copy of each image you post.
