If you need to perform a simple task like resizing an image on your Windows 10 PC, you don’t need to use software with a steep learning curve like Photoshop. You can do it using Microsoft Paint 3D. Here’s how it’s done.

Open Paint 3D on your computer by typing “Paint 3D” in the Windows Search bar and selecting “Paint 3D” from the search results.

The image will now appear on the Paint 3D canvas.

If you want to save yourself a few steps, before you even open Paint 3D, navigate to the location of the image you’d like to insert, right-click it, then select “Edit with Paint 3D” from the menu.

Paint 3D will open with the image inserted. Now it’s time to resize the image. Find and click the “Canvas” option in the header menu.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

The Canvas options will appear in the right-hand pane. Under the “Resize Canvas” section, you’ll find the width and height of the current canvas. Before changing the dimensions, check or uncheck these two options:

  • Lock aspect ratio: Logically resizes the image if you edit one dimension (width or height) of the canvas. This keeps the image from becoming distorted and stretched.
  • Resize image with canvas: With this option enabled, the image will also be resized when you change the size of the canvas. In most cases, the canvas is the image, unless you insert an image without a background. In this situation, Paint 3D will give the image a plain white background.

To properly resize an image, we recommend checking both options.

You can also choose to resize the image in pixels or a percentage. Choose which option you prefer by selecting the arrow in the box to show the drop-down menu, then selecting your preferred option.

Next, enter the figure you would like to resize the image to in the width and/or height box. If you checked the “Lock Aspect Ration” option, the width of the image will automatically resize when you change the height, and vice versa.

The image will now be resized. Save the image by selecting Menu > Save or using the Ctrl+S shortcut key.

The Paint 3D app lets you resize any image using the Canvas settings. Here are the steps to resize images in Paint 3D in Windows 10.

For quite a long time, the regular Paint application is the default for many to edit and resize images. In Windows 10, Microsoft introduced a new app called Paint 3D which has quite a unique feature set compared to the good old Paint. As you can guess from the name itself, Paint 3D is mainly designed for creating and editing 3D images. In fact, the new canvassing and all the tools are mainly geared towards 3D image creation and editing. That being said, the Paint 3D app still can do almost everything that the old Paint app can do.

One of the common things that most of us do with Paint is resizing images and pictures. For example, if an image is too big or small, you can use the built-in app to resize it as needed. In the old paint app, you’d just add the image to the Paint application and then click the Resize button. Paint 3D is not different. Since the modern app’s user interface is a bit different, it can be confusing to resize a picture in Paint 3D.

So, in this quick and simple guide, let me show you the steps to resize an image or picture using the Paint 3D app in Windows 10.

Steps to Resize Image using Paint 3D

To resize an image or picture in the Paint 3D app, follow the steps listed below.

  1. First, open the Paint 3D app. You can open it in the Start menu.

Additional Useful Notes on Image Resizing in Paint 3D:

  • You can drag and drop an image onto the Paint 3D app to open it.
  • If you want to set both the width and height of an image independently, don’t select the “Lock aspect ratio” checkbox. Do keep in mind that if the aspect is not locked, the image might be deformed due to the custom width and height values.
  • If you want to resize the image in percentage, like 50% of the original image, select “Percent” from the dropdown menu under the “Resize Canvas” section.
  • As an alternative, you can also freehand resize an image. To do that, hold down the “Shift” key, grab the resize square on the edge of the image, and move the mouse to resize the image. If you don’t hold the Shift key, the resizing action will not respect the aspect ratio. This is similar to not selecting the “Lock aspect ratio” checkbox.
  • If you want to, you can also flip or rotate the image directly from the Canvas options.

That is all. I hope that helps. If you are stuck or need some help, comment below and I will try to help as much as possible. If you like this article, check out how to remove the 3D objects folder in File Explorer.

Most digital photos captured by digital cameras or cell phones nowadays take up between 1 MB to 2 MB per file (depending on the resolution).

To email these photos or to post them on the web, you might need to shrink them first to reduce the file size. That way, it makes it quicker for others to download your photos. One of the easiest ways to shrink or resize your photo images is by using the Paint program that comes with Windows. Below are instructions on how to resize images using Paint in Windows 7.

Even if you enter pixels that cannot be proportionally resized to, the resizer is smart enough to make the corrections for you according to aspect ratio in the resized files.

Go ahead, click on the button below to learn how this batch image resizer can save you hours of manual work in resizing images:

The pictures that you want to use in a document or a spreadsheet are rarely the correct dimensions by default.

Many of these applications have their own picture editing utilities, however, so you can usually click and drag on a corner or side of the picture to make it the correct size.

Occasionally you will need to have a picture in a specific pixel dimension, which isn’t something that you can accomplish with just the tools in Microsoft Word when you need to use that picture on a website or when you upload it somewhere.

You can resize a picture in Microsoft paint by clicking the Resize button, choosing the Percentage or Pixels options, entering the desired values, then clicking OK.

Once you become familiar with the options in the Microsoft Paint application you can take advantage of them to perform many of the basic image editing tasks that you may have otherwise thought would require a more expensive application like Adobe Photoshop.

This guide is going to show you how to change the size of a picture using the free Microsoft Paint application included with your copy of Windows 10. We cover the steps briefly at the start of this article, then go into more depth later.

How to Resize Image in Paint in Pixels

  1. Right-click the picture file, choose Open with, then select Paint.
  2. Click the Resize button in the Image section of the ribbon.

  4. Check the Maintain aspect ratio box if you wish to maintain the current aspect ratio of the image.
  5. Enter the desired value into the Horizontal or Vertical field.

More Information on How to Change Aspect Ratio on Image in Paint

One of the reasons that someone could turn to Microsoft Paint is if they have a low resolution image and need to make it bigger.

While you can technically accomplish this, it is going to give you a pixelated image that doesn’t look very good.

This pixelation is less noticeable if the degree of the upscaling is not very high, but you will definitely notice it if you take a picture that is, for example, 100 pixels wide and you try to make it 2000 pixels wide.

While Microsoft Paint does make it easy to resize images, it’s important to remember that when you make an adjustment to your picture, even if it’s just a cropped image, will replace the original image when you save it.

This is why I typically make it a habit to immediately save my resized image with a new filename before I even make adjustments. Saving in MS Paint works the same as in other Microsoft programs like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, so it should be a familiar interface. I often add something to the end of the original filename, like the width or purpose of the new image.

  • You may notice that resizing one dimension will change the other. This is to preserve the aspect ratio which will prevent stretching the image horizontally or vertically.
  • You may change the values here to change the size of the image.

How big is it on screen though?

When viewing the image in MS Paint, make sure that the Zoom is set to 100% (actual size). You can either go to the View tab and press 100%, or find the slider in the lower right, and make sure it’s at 100%.

If the zoom level is set to 100%, you are seeing what size the image actually is.

  • The image may be larger than the screen, in which case you will not be able to see the entire image.
  • You should not scale an image to a larger size, only from large to small. Scaling an image to a larger size will result in a significant loss of quality. But shrinking an image is safe.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

  • To resize an image on Windows , you can easily use the built-in Photos app or Microsoft Paint.
  • In the Photos app, there’s a “Resize” option hidden in the side menu, which you can use to change the size and quality of an image.
  • In Microsoft Paint, you can click “Resize” and then enter the percentage or pixel size you want.
  • You’ll get the best results by scaling an image down — if you want to increase an image’s size, you’re better off using a program like Photoshop.

It’s not unusual to resize an image. In fact, if you often work with images downloaded from the internet, you’ll probably find yourself resizing them a lot.

Luckily, the ability to resize images is built into nearly every photo application around. This includes two of the most popular, which are installed on every Windows 10 PC from the start: Photos, and Microsoft Paint.

Note, however, that there’s a difference between resizing an image to be smaller, and resizing it to be larger. Nearly every program, Photos and Paint included, can scale an image down without issue. However, if you use these programs to make an image larger, you might find that the image loses a lot of quality.

If you need to scale an image up (greater than 100% of the original size) without getting it pixelated and blurry, then you’ll need to use a program like Adobe Photoshop that includes a smart resizing feature.

But if you need to scale an image down, or you’re fine with losing image quality, here’s how to use Windows’ built-in image resizing tools.

This week I had a request to show participants how to crop an image using Microsoft Paint. Most of the Microsoft Office products include a cropping tool but it only crops the image within that specific program. Microsoft Paint can provide a simple but effective cropping feature and is an easy option if you do not have access to graphic design programs such as Adobe Photoshop.

Microsoft Paint is included as part of the Windows operating system and comes pre-installed on your computer.

When working with images it is a good idea to have an understanding of image dimensions. These are usually measured in pixels and shown on the status bar of Microsoft Paint. The dimensions outline the horizontal size by (represented by an x) vertical size (e.g. 1024 x 768).

Let’s get started

  1. To open Microsoft Paint, click Start and scroll to the W section within the programs list. Microsoft Paint can be found in the Windows Accessories folder group OR click Start and type Paint to search for the program. Click the program to launch.
  2. The Microsoft Paint window will be displayed
  1. Select File >Open or press Ctrl + O
  2. Locate and select the image file you wish to crop and click Open
  1. If the dimensions of your image are on the larger size, then you may now see your image zoomed in, to zoom out, select the View tab and use the Zoom out button
  2. Make note of the current dimensions of your image file. Use the status bar at the bottom of the window to identify the dimensions. It will also show you the amount of disk space your image takes up on your computer.
  1. The sample image I am using is reasonably large in terms of the dimensions: 4104 x 2736 px
  2. From the Home tab select the Selection tool
  1. Using the mouse, draw a frame around the area of the image you wish to keep. Anything outside the selection frame will the cropped out
  1. Check the status bar to identify the new dimensions for your cropped image. My image will go from 4101 x 2736px to 2473 x 2697px. Make note of your cropped image dimensions as you may need this information later in the process
  1. From the Home tab click Copy or use Ctrl + C on the keyboard

Create the new cropped image

  1. Now select File >New to create a new blank file
  2. The new file dimensions are 819 x 460 px
  3. From the Home tab click Paste
  4. The cropped portion of your image will now be pasted into a new file. Because the dimensions of my cropped image are larger than 819 x 460px, Microsoft Paint has increased the image size to fit my cropped image. The cropped image is zoomed in again, repeat the process to zoom out
  5. If your cropped image is smaller than 819 x 460px then you may find you have white space around your image as shown in the sample below:
  1. If this occurs you need to resize the new image dimensions BEFORE you paste the cropped image in
  2. Use the Undo button from the Quick Access Toolbar to undo the paste function
  3. From the Home tab click Resize
  4. The Resize and Skew dialog box will appear:
  1. Change the Resize By option to Pixels
  2. Now enter the Horizontal and Vertical dimensions of your cropped image which we discussed in point 10
  3. Click OK
  4. Now Paste your cropped image again and it should fit perfectly into the image area with no white space showing around the edges
  5. To save your new cropped image, select File >Save or press Ctrl + S on the keyboard
  6. The Save As dialog box will appear:
  1. Navigate and select a suitable location to save your new image
  2. Enter a relevant File name and choose the image type you wish to save as: .png, .jpg are popular options
  3. The new image is now saved and ready for use within any program or social media platforms

I hope you have found this post useful to allow you to easily crop images without the need for fancy image editing software. If you enjoyed this post relating to Microsoft Paint, you may also enjoy: How to resize a photo to use as your Desktop Wallpaper (using Paint).

I need to upload this passport size photo and signatures to some websites and I don’t know how to compress passport size photos.

Hey, can you please edit this photo for me? I’m not able to upload this, as it doesn’t meet the required specifications.
Being a Photoshop user I receive such messages frequently. Believe me, resizing or compressing photos doesn’t require any technical skillset. You can do that on your own, within a minute, and without downloading any software.

You can use Microsoft Office Lens, Camscanner, click a photo of your photo or simply scan using a physical scanner. No matter what method you use, the ratio of height and width of the image will remain the same.
If you are using any application, just make sure you save your photo into a valid image format. This is the most common problem that people save the scanned image in pdf format and can’t edit them later.

1. Open your image in Microsoft Paint

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

Just in case you don’t know how to open paint, press the windows key and type paint in the search bar.

2. Click the resize icon

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

Click the resize icon, a small tab will popup. Select the pixels option and make sure ‘Maintain aspect ratio ‘ is checked.

3. Input the desired size for the image.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

Just input the required values. In case your dimensions mismatch by some pixels, then you can input them manually. In that case, uncheck the ‘Maintain aspect ratio ‘ option. Now save the image and you will get the resized image with a smaller file size.

Bonus point: What is aspect ratio of an image?

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

Aspect ratio is the ratio of height and width of an image or video. If you don’t want your image to be stretched or shrunk, then you should maintain the aspect ratio. Generally, the softwares are capable enough to calculate themselves and you don’t need to do the math.

Do you deal with a lot of images daily on your Windows 10 and Windows 11 PC? Does your college project or office work require you to reduce image size before using them? Do you wish that you could resize them all together, thereby saving time? That too without uploading them to an online file size reducer? If the answer is yes, you are reading the correct story.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 natively allow only one photo at a time to be resized via the Photos app or Paint. However, Microsoft also offers a small utility tool that you can download and install for free. It’s called PowerToys and can be used by anyone. It can be downloaded for free from here.

How to resize multiple images together

The step is easy and all you require is to download the PowerToys app for free from Microsoft’s website.

  1. Install the PowerToys app from the downloaded setup. This could take a few minutes.
  2. Next, open it and agree to the default settings.
  3. Now head over to the folder where all your photos are stored. Select all of them and right-click.
  4. Upon right-click, you will see the “Resize Pictures” option in your menu. Click on it. (Windows 11 users on the desktop will first need to click on “show more options.”
  5. A small window will appear that allows you to choose from the several preset resolutions. Click on the desired one to proceed.
  6. Once done, a resized copy of your original image will be created in the same folder.
  7. Note that you can have your own resolution preset embedded here. For that, you will need to open PowerToys app and click on “Image Resizer” from the side menu. You can either add a new resolution preset or edit an existing one. You can also remove some.

The Bottom Line

Microsoft is putting 3D modeling and editing into the hands of the masses in a radical rethink of the tried-and-true Paint app.

  • Easy 3D image creation and editing.
  • Online sharing of 3D images.
  • Plays back the creation process.
  • Doesn’t extrude 2D objects.
  • Complementary 3D capture mobile app missing in action.
  • No standard image correction tools.

Microsoft wants to put 3D modeling into everyone’s hands. What better way to do this than to put that power into an app that everyone already knows, Microsoft Paint? Paint has looked largely the same for decades, but with Windows 10 Creators Update there’s a new Paint in town. Paint 3D adds an extra dimension to casual image creation, while the old Paint also remains available in Windows for those who cling to 2D ways. You might think 3D modeling would be too complex for novices—as most 3D design software has been up to now—but put that worry aside: It’s simple enough for anyone to use.

I’ve been playing with Paint 3D for more than a week now on a Surface Book ($9.99 Per Month at Adobe) (Opens in a new window) running Creators Update, and let me tell you, anyone can have fun creating, customizing, decorating, and sharing 3D objects.

You can get Paint 3D in the Windows Store like any other Universal app, but it only runs in Creators Update or in the Windows Insider early builds of the OS. Last October, Microsoft announced an ancillary app, Capture 3D, which is supposed to let you shoot video of an object to create a 3D image you can use in Paint 3D, but that app is still AWOL.

Interface

This is not your father’s Microsoft Paint, though it still works with 2D images, and it even adds new capabilities for those flat works of art. The interface is highly touch-compatible, and it looks completely new. You don’t need a touch screen or pen-capable PC to use Paint 3D, but it gives editing a more direct, satisfying feel. Using a stylus worked best for me. The app features the Universal App style overflow (or “hamburger”) menu at top left, and a tool panel on the right side. Across the top are buttons for brush, 3D shapes, stickers, text, effects, canvas, and Remix 3D content.

When you start selecting an area of a 2D image, Magic Select becomes an option: It’s similar to the Magic Wand tool in Photoshop, which lets you cut out, say, a person from a background. It’s not quite as automatic and accurate as Adobe’s tool, but you can fine tune selection with an eraser or add to it after initial selection. Like the old Paint, Paint 3D is lacking when it comes to basic photo editing tools like brightness, contrast, and color tuning. You can still draw on images, rotate them, and crop them, however.

Working With 3D Images

For 3D creation, you can start from scratch using primitives like spheres and boxes, or, better yet, you can grab a prebuilt 3D model from the right-side Remix 3D panel, which offers staff picks, essentials, starter kits, and community objects. You can search for contributed images, for particular users, or for boards containing groups of images. I chose an old NYC building, and tapped the Add to Project bar to get going.

Controls on the resulting screen let you resize, spin, and tilt the image. But the coolest part for me came next, when I chose a sticker to decorate the building. You can download stickers from the community, too. When you apply a sticker to a 3D object, it wraps around the object like, well, paint. For more customization, I opened the Brush panel, which offers a marker, pen, pencil, crayon, and more. I smeared my building a little and just like the sticker, the paint stuck perfectly to the edges of the building. It’s incredibly fun. A written review can’t convey how much fun it is to use the new Paint 3D.

One cool option for viewing your creation is that you can tap the rewind clock icon to replay your steps in creating it. You can even export a movie of this process.

You can add multiple 3D objects to your canvas, and select them all at once or separately. The Z-axis tool is nifty for when you need to move an object forward or back. A completely visual help feature shows you how all the 3D adjustments work. One issue I have with stickers is that, once you stick them on, you can’t edit them, only undo their application. I also couldn’t figure out how to flip the eye sticker so that I could have a right and left eye.

Sharing and Output

Once you’ve designed a 3D object of your own, you don’t have to keep it to yourself. You can join the online community for sharing 3D creations at Remix3D.com (Opens in a new window) . You can share your work there directly from within the program. It’s reminiscent of a gamer community in that you get your own nickname and user picture.

Windows 10 includes native support for 3D Printing, and viewing these objects in the HoloLens or inserting them into Minecraft seem like obvious output options. Not only can you print to a 3D printer from the app, you can also order 3D prints from commercial services. The app can “repair” your image so that it meets 3D printing requirements. It also helps you position the object for optimal printing results.

What About Good Old 2D Paint?

I’ve focused on the exciting new 3D capabilities of Paint 3D, but the program maintains some humble, old 2D picture editing and drawing capabilities, too. You can even put 2D image selections in 3D canvases. This gives them a third axis to move in, but the program can’t extrude 2D images into full 3D ones, as Adobe Photoshop ($9.99 Per Month at Adobe) (Opens in a new window) can. As mentioned, the old Paint is also hanging around in Creators Update, for those who want to cling to the past.

A New Paint for a New Age

Its acquisition of Minecraft and development of the HoloLens 3D augmented reality headset have demonstrated Microsoft’s seriousness about getting into the 3D business. Giving everyday users a tool to create for the new virtual worlds is the next step. Anyone who’s used Adobe Photoshop’s 3D image editing tools will know that it takes some getting used to; not so for Paint 3D. What better way to turn an old standby like Paint into a boldly future-facing product?

When you insert an image, it stretches or shrinks to match the size of the field you have drawn on the Display. This results in some degree of distortion. To avoid this, create images that match the required size.

An imported image cannot exceed the size of the controller’s display screen. For example, the V230’s Display screen is 128×64 pixels, therefore an image of 100×100 pixels cannot be used unless it is resized in a third-party utility such as Paint.

If Ignore the orientation of pictures is checked, the width and height of the specified size may be swapped to match the orientation (portrait/landscape) of the current image. In other words: If checked, the smallest number (in width/height) in the settings will be applied to the smallest dimension of the picture. Regardless if this is declared as width or height. The idea is that different photos with different orientations will still be the same size.

Settings

Inside the PowerToys Settings window, on the Image Resizer tab, you can configure the following settings.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

Sizes

Add new preset sizes. Each size can be configured as Fill, Fit or Stretch. The dimension to be used for resizing can be configured as Centimeters, Inches, Percent and Pixels.

Fill versus Fit versus Stretch

  • Fill: Fills the entire specified size with the image. Scales the image proportionally. Crops the image as needed.
  • Fit: Fits the entire image into the specified size. Scales the image proportionally. Does not crop the image.
  • Stretch: Fills the entire specified size with the image. Stretches the image disproportionally as needed. Does not crop the image.

You can leave the width or height empty. The dimension will be calculated to a value proportional to the original image aspect ratio.

Fallback encoding

The fallback encoder is used when the file cannot be saved in its original format. For example, the Windows Meta File (.wmf) image format has a decoder to read the image, but no encoder to write a new image. In this case, the image cannot be saved in its original format. Image Resizer enables you to specify what format the fallback encoder will use: PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, or WMPhoto settings. This is not a file type conversion tool, but only works as a fallback for unsupported file formats.

The file name of the resized image can be modified with the following parameters:

ParameterResult
%1Original filename
%2Size name (as configured in the PowerToys Image Resizer settings)
%3Selected width
%4Selected height
%5Actual height
%6Actual width

Example: setting the filename format to: %1 (%2) on the file example.png and selecting the Small file size setting, would result in the file name example (Small).png . Setting the format to %1_%4 on the file example.jpg and selecting the size setting Medium 1366 x 768px would result in the file name: example_768.jpg .

You can specify a directory in the filename format to group resized images into sub-directories. Example: a value of %2\%1 would save the resized image(s) to Small\example.jpg

You can choose to retain the original last modified date on the resized image or reset it at time of the resizing action.

What is PNG

A PNG or portable network graphics file is a digital image format commonly used for websites. When it comes to image compression, where data is converted to consume less space than the original file, the PNG format uses lossless compression or minimal quality loss compared to the lossy compression of the JPG (joint photographic experts group) format.

Thomas Boutell is recognized as the man who developed PNG in 1995 when the most popular image file format for the web was the graphics interchange format (GIF). The PNG format emerged as an alternative to the GIF after UNISYS, which held the patent for the so-called LZW compression method for the GIF, decided to require a license for its file format.

PNG’s popularity came from its ease of use, particularly when you need a certain portion of an image in its original colors while the rest stays transparent. This makes it the ideal format for images such as logos, which often need to be placed over another picture.

Why PNG Files Need to be Resized

The PNG format is the best choice when you need to edit an image several times since JPEG images undergo generational loss during repetitive editing and saving.

However, you’ll often need to resize PNG images; they’re larger in file size due to their higher resolution, making websites take longer to load and emails longer to send.

Most cameras and smartphones take pictures at a resolution that is far too high for everyday use, and storing these images uses far too much disk space. Keep reading to find out how to compress pictures to reduce storage yet keep the same picture quality.

Here is an example of a photo taken with my smartphone:

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

This is a nice picture that I snapped of a a flowering cactus near my home in Chile. (I would have dug it up and taken it home to put in my cactus garden, but that is illegal here.)

When I took the photo above on my Android phone, my phone saved it at 2 MB size for 1019 x 764 pixels. I will show you how to reduce the size to 130 KB (0.13 MB) and keep the resolution basically the same, meaning the eye can tell no difference.

First, this web page is showing you that picture at width=”620″ height=”459″ or 620×459 pixels. (A width of 1019 is too wide for a web page.) This is not the actual size of the picture, but it is the size the browser is showing it to you. The actual file could be much larger. For that reason, Facebook and Twitter change the resolution of images you upload there. That cuts down the file size tremendously while preserving picture quality. This makes web pages load faster and saves storage on Facebook and Twitter computers.

Pictures are compressed when stored. For example, if there are 10 pixels that are all the same color right next to each other, then the computer can record that information one time instead of 10 times. The image properties below show that, after I copied it from my Android phone to Windows, it took 2 MB of storage. The pixel depth is 32 bits. That basically means how many different colors it can represent per pixel, although the number is far higher than 32.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

Compress Picture

We can keep our cactus picture at the same size yet make it smaller and still keep the resolution sharp.

You cannot do this with Paint or Word or any software on a Windows PC. You need something like Gimp which is free photo editing software. It is much less complicated than Photoshop and has more advanced features than the average person will ever need or understand. For this reason, Gimp is for amatuers as well as professionals.

Change Picture Size in Gimp

Download Gimp, and open a photo.

1. Here is how to change the size of a picture in Gimp. Select Image>Scale Image.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

2. Enter the width you want, and Gimp will calculate the height. That will keep the ratio of the two sides the same. If you enter both, you will distort the image by stretching or shrinking it if you change the ratio of one side to another. Click Scale when you are done.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

Compress Image by Exporting it

3. Here is how to export the image, reducing the resolution yet retaining the same size. Select File>Export.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

4. Enter a file name, and export as type .JPEG or .JPG. These are two ways to spell the same file type. JPEG is the most efficient image storing type, meaning it consumes the least space per pixel of resolution.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

5. Select Show Preview in Image Windows. Then change the Quality number by sliding the bar across. It will show you the new file size plus a thumbnail of how the image will look. You will just have to practice to see how much you can reduce the quality yet retain the same sharpness of the picture. In this example, I picked 61% of the quality of the original image, and I can see no difference at all when I look at the photo.

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

6. The cactus still looks great:

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

7. Now the image only takes up 129 KB space. We have reduced it by a factor of 31. You could put this on Pinterest. It will still look great, but it would be much smaller.

Basically, I’d like to resize or resample a .png image (in order to reduce its file size) and yet retain it’s transparency.

Anybody got an idea how best to go about this?

Stumbled upon this thread and found the following site that does exactly what is requested:

How to resize images using paint 3d on windows 10

What graphics program are you using?

Photoshop does this by simply going thru IMAGE > IMAGE SIZE and resizing. Transparency is not affected. I’m sure Paint Shop Pro does the same

I know this is an old question, but the answer that worked for me was to use Inkscape.

  1. Start Inkscape (free on Inkscape.org).
  2. File -> Import. (Ctrl+I) the PNG file you want to resize (defaults on import dialog are ok).
  3. With the image you just imported selected, select File -> Export PNG image. (Shift+Ctrl+E)
  4. In the Export PNG Image tool pane, click the Export As. button to set the output filename and location.
  5. In this same tool pane, set the image size using width/height or pixels.
  6. In this same tool pane, click the Export button to create the output file.

This worked for me, hope it helps someone else.

Blurring text or an image in Microsoft paint application in Windows? The world knows, that there’s no Blur tool in Microsoft Paint. Of course true, but it does not mean that you cannot blur text or an image in MS paint. Here’s a simple trick to do that.

What we are going to create is not BLUR effect exactly. But it’s pixelate(ing) to hide sensitive information. You can create better blur effects in Image editing software’s such as Adobe Photoshop, In-design, GIMP etc.

Blur effect in MS PAINT

Step 1: Click the Select tool from the toolbar.

Step 2: Draw an outline around or select an area that you wish to blur.

Step 3: Re-size the selected area by holding one of the edges and dragging it inward to make it smaller than the original size and then dragging it outward to bring it back to its original size.

Step 4: Repeat step 3, until the selected area is distorted to give a better blur effect.

That’s a pretty good trick, isn’t it? Then let’s play a guessing game! Just ask this question to your friend – how many brush sizes are available in MS Paint? You will be surprised, MS Paint offers much more than what your friend would have guessed.

Here’s a video tutorial of the same.
