How to post panoramas to instagram

I nstagram recently added the ability to upload multiple images in a single post. It didn’t take long for some clever photographers to figure out you can use this “carousel” feature to upload amazing panoramic images to the app, like the one below. (It’s far more impressive inside the Instagram app, rather than here on the web.)

How can you do this yourself? There are two ways.

First, you can try an app that automates the process, like Swipeable. However, after a quick test, I found that Swipeable kept trying to add a bunch of advertisement-like images onto my uploads, so it wasn’t a keeper. But if you want a simple solution and don’t mind doing a bit of deleting every time you use it, this app may be fine for you.

The other method is a little more complicated.

First, you’ll have to actually go ahead and take a panoramic image (most cameras and smartphones have panoramic modes to help you get the job done, but more experienced photographers do it manually with a tripod.)

Then, open that photo in your image editing software of choice. I use Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile, but pretty much any editing software should be able to get the job done.

Next, open up your program’s crop tool, and set your crop ratio for 3×1. (Assuming you want three different segments for your Instagram upload. If you only want two, set it for 2×1, or 4×1 for four, and so on).

After you’ve cropped your original photo into a 3×1 image, you’ll want to open the crop tool once more. This time, set the crop ratio for 1×1, and pick the leftmost section of your image. Select it, copy it, and open it as a new image. Save it with a filename like “pano1.jpg.” Then go back and repeat the process for the middle and rightmost section of your panoramic, naming them pano2.jpg and pano3.jpg.

When you’ve made all three of your 1×1 images, send them to your smartphone by emailing them to yourself or perhaps by using AirDrop, if you’re using Apple devices.

Now it’s time to open up Instagram. Hit the upload button (bottom-middle), then look for the icon that looks like three stacks of paper on top of one another. Click that, then select the three square images you just made from your original panoramic, making sure the leftmost side is first, then the middle, then the rightmost side. Hit “next,” then upload your final result the same way you’d upload any other Instagram post.

And there you go, seamless and swipe-able panoramic on Instagram. Have fun trying this for yourself!

How to post panoramas to instagram

Panoramic photos never did well on Instagram; the mobile format does not lend itself kindly to very wide images. But with the ability to post a chain of photos, it is now possible to post “swipeable” panoramas to Instagram. Suddenly, panoramas look great on the platform! Cutting up a panoramic photo into a few “pieces,” you can post them altogether so that your followers can seamlessly explore the scene.

To do it, you need to make use of an app on your smartphone. It ensures that the cropped sections of your photo are perfectly sized and lined-up to allow for the seamless transition. Here’s an example of how it works once the panorama is posted to Instagram:

A post shared by Will Nicholls (@willnphoto) on Jul 4, 2019 at 10:39am PDT

It’s really simple to post a panorama to Instagram – all you need to do is:

  1. Download the appropriate smartphone app
  2. Automatically chop up the image into multiple sections
  3. Save them to your phone’s photo album
  4. Post them to Instagram!

Now, let’s take a look in more depth at how exactly to do it.

Which app to use

There are a number of different apps to use, some of which are almost useless. So it’s important to choose the right one to make the process as smooth as possible, and to avoid any unwanted watermarks being added to your photos.

For Android users, an app called InSwipe seems to be the clear choice. There are no watermarks added to your image, and you can cut up a photo into as many as 10 pieces (should you so wish).

For iOS users, the choices are not so great. I’ve had most success with Panorang. It has no annoying adverts, and it doesn’t add watermarks to the cropped versions. It also supplies a zoomed out version of your panorama, showing the full image in one square – however this slide does have a watermark, but you’re under no obligation to actually post it.

Posting the panorama to Instagram

Once you’ve got the sections cropped successfully and saved into your phone’s photo album, head on over to Instagram. Click the new post icon, and then tap on the button that allows you to select multiple images. Starting from the left of the image, tap on the sections in order.

Once you’ve done that, press next and enter your caption as your would normally. Once posted, you’ll be able to seamlessly swipe between all the different sections! Here is how it looks when you’re posting it:

It’s as simple as that! It’s a really fun and interactive way to post panoramas to Instagram, and hopefully your followers will appreciate the effort too.

Share All sharing options for: How to make a seamless Instagram panorama

It’s already been a few years since Instagram allowed you to post multiple photos simultaneously in a single post. This small change enabled a lot of creative options. One of my favorites is creating seamless panoramas by simply slicing your photo in two — like this one.

If you want to take advantage of this neat little hack, here’s a quick, simple tutorial on how you can pull it off.

Before you start, you’ll need two things: Adobe Photoshop (or another pixel-based photo editor that lets you work with layers) and an elementary understanding of Instagram’s requirements for sizing photos.

First, about the sizing: no matter which photo you upload, Instagram will automatically resize and compress your images. For example, square photos will always end up being 1080 x 1080 and vertical ones will always be 1080 (w) x 1350 (h). So if you want to create a panorama made out of two vertical photos, you’ll need to duplicate the pixels lengthwise, while the height stays the same: 1080 x 1350 becomes 2160 x 1350. Or if you want to create a panorama made out of three images, you’ll use 3240 x 1350. The same applies if you’re starting off with square images, which will fit into a panoramic space with twice the width (2160 x 1080).

Create your panorama

Okay, let’s boot up Photoshop and open up two documents.

  • The first one should be 2160 x 1350; it’s where you’ll “slice” your photos into two parts. Let’s name the first document “Full Image.”

How to post panoramas to instagram

In Photoshop, you can save document sizes as presets for future edits.

  • The second document should be 1080 x 1350; this one is where you’ll drop in your single images and get them ready for export. We can name this one “Slices.”
  • Open or drag your image into the first document (“Full Image”).
  • Go to “View” in your menu bar and select “New Guide Layout.”
  • Set two columns with zero width and zero gutter. If rows are selected, deselect them since you won’t need to cut horizontally, only vertically. This will create a turquoise line right down the middle of your photo.

How to post panoramas to instagram

Guides will help you split images in equal parts.

  • Before we move on to the next step, make sure your “Snap to Guide” is turned on. It’ll make your life just that much easier.
  • Select the marquee tool on your left hand side (or hit the shortcut “M” key) and drag your cursor over the first half of the photo. If Snap To Guide is turned on, your selection will automatically snap to the turquoise vertical line you created earlier.
  • Now that you have your selection, you can simply copy and paste it to a new layer on the “Slices” document.
  • Go back to the “Full Image” document and repeat for the other half of the image.

Now you’re ready for exporting. You can either export each layer at once using Photoshop’s “Layers to Files” option (under “File” > “Export”) or you can export each layer individually. I tend to add a few more layers to the same document, so I batch export those. In case you want to double-check your final export settings, you can use “Save for Web.”

How to post panoramas to instagram

Here are all the layers I’ll batch export.

If you’re using a PC, it might be easiest to save your files to a cloud service, where you can easily access them with your phone. Or if you’re in the macOS / iOS ecosystem, simply Airdrop your exports.

Put your panorama on Instagram

Getting the photos to properly show up on Instagram should be easy enough, but let’s go through that quickly just in case, because there are some things you can easily skip by accident. On your mobile device:

  • Assuming your exports are indeed 1080 x 1350, make sure you’re about to post vertical photos by clicking on the arrows icon in the bottom left corner.

How to post panoramas to instagram

Don’t forget to enable vertical photos first. Also, you can tap and hold one photo to enable multiple selections.

  • In order to post multiple photos in one post, either long-press one of the photos or tap on “Select multiple” in the lower right corner of the first photo. You can then select the other photos, numbered in the order they will appear.
  • And lastly, make sure you selected the photos in the right order. because I have definitely made that mistake at least once. Don’t be like me.

How to post panoramas to instagram

Now that you can post multiple photos at once to Instagram, people are starting to take advantage of the feature. If you crop a large panorama seamlessly, you can post the different segments as multiple photos and get a swipeable panorama.

The resulting image looks like this. By swiping left and right you can view the whole image.

How to post panoramas to instagram

While you can make your own swipeable panorama with any image editor, it takes a bit of time to get right. The simplest way is to use an app dedicated to the purpose. There are a few out there and, fair warning, most of them aren’t great.

The best app I’ve found is InSwipe for Android. You can cut photos into up to 10 pieces, and the app doesn’t add a watermark.

On iOS, your choice is harder. Swipeable makes it easier to remove the watermark the app ties to your image, but the app won’t let you control how many pieces each panorama is cropped into. Unsquared lets you control how many pieces, but to remove the watermark you need to watch a 30 second video ad. If you find a better app, please let us know in the comments.

All the apps work pretty much the same so I’m going to demo it with InSwipe for Android.

Download the app you’re going to use and open it. Tap the “Gallery” button (or “Import from Camera Roll,” or whatever button allows you to load an image into your app).

How to post panoramas to instagram

If you can, select the number of pieces you want the image cropped into. If the app is trying to add watermarks, remove them if you want to. In Swipable, just tap on the image a few times. In Unsquared, tap the “X” on the watermark, and then wait for the video to end.

How to post panoramas to instagramHow to post panoramas to instagram

Click “Continue” or “Done,” wait for the app to do its thing, and then save your image.

How to post panoramas to instagram

Posting the panorama is just like posting any group of photos to Instagram. Open Instagram, create a new a post, tap the album icon, and then select the images you want to upload. Make sure to select them in the right order so that the panorama works.

How to post panoramas to instagramHow to post panoramas to instagram

Post the image, and you’re done. You’ve got a swipeable panorama for everyone to see.

It’s impossible to communicate visual beauty to others on social media platforms. The 360 degree, holistic views captured by our eyes and the feelings of the scenic views have no match, and could only be experienced. But panoramic photos is perhaps the best way to upload the views of places you visit. Panorama photos capture every angle and let your friends see the real nirvana of the place where you are. In this article I’ll tell you how to upload Panoramas, or Panoramic photos on Instagram.

Swipeable (iPhone)

Swipeable is a great app to post panorama to Instagram. The app uses the multiple photo upload in single post feature of Instagram to allow users to post swipeable panoramas. Swipeable is available for free

Instaswipe (Android)

If you are an Android user and want to upload panorama photos on Instagram, I’d suggest using Pannify or InstaSwipe.

Using Photoshop

A great way to post panoramic photos on Instagram is to split the photos into tiles and post the tiles into one post (Instagram allows you to post multiple photos in one post). Your Instagram friends will be able to view the panoramic photos by swiping these split tile photos.

Here’s an example of how the end result will look like:

But how to split images to upload on Instagram? The best way is to use Photoshop. Just use the Crop tool of Photoshop. Make sure to divide the image evenly in the square shapes. You can crop the image with the ratio 1:3 or 1:4.

After cropping, you the “Slice” tool in Photoshop. You can get the slice tool by long-clicking the crop button. You will see a drop down from where you can get the slice tool.

After selecting the slice tool, click outside the image and drop around the outside of the entire image to create large slice including the whole image.

Now right click on the icons at the very top left of the slice. Select “Divide Slice” option from the pop-up menu. From the divide slice option, uncheck the “Divide Horizontally Into” box and check the “Divide Vertically Into” box. Just enter the number of slices (photos you want to upload on Instagram to give a panorama look).

The slice will be marked in the image. Click Ok and close the Divide Slice options panel.

Now we have to export the slices as separate images to upload it on Instagram for panoramic photos. In order to do that, just head over to File-> Export-> and click on Save for Web. Now set the output size. You can set the size to 1080p. After setting the size, click on Save.

Before clicking on the save button, on the bottom left, make sure that Slices one is set to All Slices.

Now transfer the photos slices to your phone and upload them to one post.

Using Online Image Splitter

If you find using Photoshop too complex, I’d suggest using free online image splitter. This tool has a split image feature. Upload any image you want to split and divide the image.

When Instagram first hit smartphones, every uploaded photo had to be in a square shape

This is not a problem in terms of photos and selfies, but for panoramic photos, Instagram has always encountered difficulties. Now, you can upload any photo to Instagram. However, not all will look good. Below is an explanation of the best way to post panoramic photos on Instagram on your iPhone and Android devices, along with an iPhone app that will make the photos look better.

How to post panoramic photos on Instagram

The simplest way to post panoramas is:

  • Open Instagram on your iPhone or Android, and press the plus icon below the screen to upload photos.
  • Once your photo gallery opens, select the panoramic photo you want to post
  • Touch the image with two fingers, and then reduce the photo so that the whole photo looks panoramic.
  • Add filters and post as usual.

How to post panoramas to instagram

The result is a rectangular photo with white space at the top and bottom. This method can adjust the size of the photo, but for full-size panoramic photos, it may not be possible to post the full photo.

Here is a program like Photoshop to cut the photo. If you have an iPhone, there is an app that will do all the work for you automatically: “Unsquared for Instagram“.

Download the app and give permission to access the photos. Then follow these steps:

  • Open the Unsquared app and click the photo stack icon at the bottom right.
  • Click the photo from the gallery you want to use, and then click the blue sign.
  • The photo will be presented with the Unsquared sign on it.
  • Press the blue icon that looks like a series of squares at the bottom of the screen, and you can now choose how many photos you would like the panoramic photo to be shared.

How to post panoramas to instagram

If you want to include each part of the photo, divide it into 3 parts. However you can split it into as many pieces as you want, but you can lose the top and bottom of the photo.

  • Once done, press “Done”. Separate photos will appear in your gallery, and you can post them on Instagram

  • To post a panorama photo on Instagram , you can simply zoom the picture out while uploading it.
  • You can also use an app like “Unsquared for Instagram,” which splits your panorama photos into multiple Instagram-friendly squares.

When Instagram first hit smartphones, every image uploaded had to be shaped like a perfect square.

This is all well and good for selfies and pictures of your kids, but for those majestic panorama shots of the Grand Canyon, Instagram’s always struggled.

Nowadays, you can upload any sort of photo to Instagram. However, they don’t always look so good.

How to post panorama shots on Instagram

The simplest way to post panoramas is:

1. Open Instagram on your iPhone or Android and tap the plus icon at the bottom of the screen to upload a photo.

2. Once in your photo gallery, select the panorama shot you want to use.

3. Touch the image preview at the top with two fingers, then squeeze them together to zoom out. Zoom out until as much of the panorama as possible is visible.

4. Add filters and post it as usual.

The result here is a rectangular picture with large blank spaces on the top and bottom. This will do your photo some justice, but for full-sized panoramas, you likely still won’t be able to fit the whole photo.

For the full effect, you’ll need to use a program like Photoshop to cut the panorama into smaller, square images. If you have an iPhone, there’s an app that will do this for you automatically: “Unsquared for Instagram.”

Download the Unsquared app on the Apple App Store and give it the permissions it needs to access your photos. Then, follow these steps to cut up your photos.

1. Open the Unsquared app and tap the image of a stack of photos at bottom right.

2. Tap the pano image from your library that you want to use, then tap the blue check mark.

Note that the more pieces you cut it into, the more of the top and bottom of the shot that will be cut off. In general, if you want to include every part of the photo, try to pick “3 Pieces.”

4. Once you’re satisfied, tap “Done.” The split-up photos will be saved to your phone, and you can post them to Instagram.

Mobile phone photography has evolved so much in the last few years. With all smartphone check with artificial intelligence, Augmented reality, mixed reality, and many other capabilities, 360-degree photos are the next big thing.

So Much that Facebook has started supporting 360-degree photos, from last few years, and they even allow you to take 360-degree photos, even when your smartphone camera is not eatable for taking 360-degree photos, check out this article to know how.

Considering Facebook owns Instagram, it’s a shame that it is not allowed the same kind of capability on Instagram as well since it is the most visual social media platform available.

The content created on Instagram is mostly videos and photos and would have been nicer if Facebook had allowed posting 360-degree photos on Instagram as well.

While posting 360-degree photos or panoramic photos is only limited to Facebook there is a workaround to post them on Instagram as well.

The Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012, it introduced a number of features to the platform since then, and one of them was the ability to post multiple photos in a single post.

Users had to swipe right or left to view all other photos posted in the single post.

A post shared by Lucknow Tips (@lucknowtips) on May 14, 2019 at 1:09pm PDT

We can use the same feature for boasting panoramic for 360-degree photos on Instagram. And the good thing is that we can use the same method of creating 360-degree photos or panoramic photos on Facebook, which also keeps a copy of the photo of in a folder named Facebook, which can be found under the ‘Pictures’ folder.

If you had already shared 360-degree photos on Facebook, you might already have them saved in that folder, if not you can go through the article mentioned above to create one.

Now, you need to install one of these apps that I found on the Play Store. The purpose of these apps is to chop off the panoramic or 360-degree photo into multiple photos that can be posted on Instagram.

People would be swiping through the photos as if it is a single photo.

3 Best Android Apps to Post Panoramic 360 Photos on Instagram

Panorama Crop for Instagram

How to post panoramas to instagram

How to post panoramas to instagram

Panorama crop for Instagram is pretty good on the UI path, it gives you three options to post a photo on Instagram, for posting Paranomic photos or 360 photos Unity select the first one which is it swipeable post.

You will then be able to browse to the folder where you will find the saved 360-photo that you have created using the Facebook app.

You can then select the Canvas and the number of photos you want to slice the 360-photo to post.

Other than being highly annoying for showing popup ads there isn’t anything negative about this app. If you want to use it once in a while this should be ok since it is not very heavy and sized under 10MB.

Panorama for Instagram

Panorama for Instagram at which is also under 10 MB and offers all the functionalities the above tab offers.

The only thing that is different from the above app is the user interface, it is still easy, but like the Panorama crop for Instagram, the Panorama for the Instagram app is also quite ad heavy which is a bit of turn off.

Again, if you are not someone who is going to post 360 photos in Instagram every single day or, multiple times a day, then you can surely use either of these apps, they function properly.

Panorama for Instagram: InSwipe

Panorama for Instagram: Inswipe, is a rather simple app for posting 360 photos, all the Panasonic photos on Instagram.

The user interface is not that’s good, two cities in simple Black and White, but the thing that I like about this app the most, it did not have too many annoying ads.

Obviously, since that is free to use the only way to monetize the app is by showing ads, I am really happy that a developer has thought of putting only banner ads, and not trying to make more money by annoying users by showing popup ads, at least till now.

I used all the three apps for testing purpose then immediately uninstalled the other two and I’m happy with the Panorama for Instagram: Inswipe.

You can save your time by directly installing the last app, but you are free to try three of them choose the one you like the most.

This is how you can post 360-degree photos or panoramic photos on Instagram without actually having the feature natively available on the platform.

In this Photoshop tutorial, you will learn how to make Instagram Seamless Panoramas.

Instagram recently added the capability of combining multiple photos in a single post. You can hack this feature to include multiple images of the same photo to create a seamless pano.

All you need to do is split your panorama into multiple images and upload them to Instagram as a single post to get a swipeable panorama.

By swiping left and right, you can view the whole image. The resulting image looks like this:

How to post panoramas to instagram

It’s a really neat effect, and it’s much more impressive than the squares of a single image.

This tutorial is all about how to split images for Instagram’s multi-post seamless panoramas.

Making The Template

To save yourself time in the future, it is a good idea to create a Photoshop template file and re-use it any time that you want to post a seamless panorama on Instagram.

You can follow along to see how I created the template, or you can scroll down and download a free Photoshop template to slice photos for Instagram.

There are multiple ways you can split up a panorama into square tiles, but the best method is to use the Slices feature in Photoshop.

Slices allow you to break up an image into multiple pieces and easily save them as separate files.

Setting Up Your Photoshop Document

Go to File > New.

Enter a width of 1,080 pixels and a height of 1,080 pixels.

Instagram works best with square images, and the maximum image size that you can use is 1080 by 1080. Also use the sRGB color profile, which is the color profile that Instagram will use.

How to post panoramas to instagram

This action creates a square canvas which will is the basis for the Photoshop template we’re making.

Now you have to think about how many images you want to use for your seamless pano. The maximum number of images that you can upload to a single post on Instagram is ten, but for this tutorial, we will use only four.

Go into Image > Canvas Size, then click on the center arrow pointing to the left. This will extend the canvas to the right side.

Now you have to think about how wide you want to make the canvas.

You don’t have to do any math, because you can change the Pixels dropdown to Percent, and then type in the percentage that you want.

If you want a four image panorama, then type 400%, because you want the canvas four times as large, so that you could have four different slices.

How to post panoramas to instagram

Dive The Template Using Guides

Then go into View > New Guide Layout, and under Columns, type 4.

How to post panoramas to instagram

Make sure that nothing else is selected, except for “Clear existing guides,” which will remove any guides that you already have in your canvas.

After you create your guides, your canvas should look something like this:

How to post panoramas to instagram

Slice The Document

Now you’re going to use a tool that you probably have not used before. Nested under the Crop Tool, select the Slice Tool.

How to post panoramas to instagram

The Slice Tool is used heavily in web design, and it allows you to cut up an image so that you could save multiple documents out of a single image.

You can click-and-drag, and follow the guides to create a slice out of the first box. Each of the pieces that you cut up with the slice tool will become a new document.

Keep following the guides and make slices along the four columns.

When you have sliced the four boxes, you should see four blue labels on the top left of each box. The labels are numbered from 1 to 4.

How to post panoramas to instagram

With the Slice tool active, you can double-click on each slice to bring up the Slice Options. In this dialog box, you can name your slice. It’s a good idea to name your slices because the name of the slice will also be the name of the file when you export.

You can call your first slice “Instagram Seamless Pano 01,” and then change the number with the other slices.

How to post panoramas to instagram

Place Your Photo Into Your Template

Place your image in your working document. There are several ways of doing this, but one easy method is to go to File > Place Embedded.

If you need to transform your document press Ctrl T (Mac: Command T) to fit your panorama in the template.

Once you fit the image in your template, you can export your images.

Export Slices as Individual Files

When you’re ready to save, go to File > Export > Save for Web.

Make sure you have JPEG selected, and select maximum for the quality. Then click on Save.

The Save Optimize As dialog box will come up; make sure that under Slices, you have All slices selected, and then click on Save.

This will save the four slices as separate files, that you can then upload into Instagram.

Upload the Individual Files Into Instagram

Once the four images are saved onto your computer, all that you need to do is upload them into your phone so that you can create you Instagram seamless panoramas.

I like using Dropbox to get my photos onto my phone, but you can use any method that you like.
