waffles recipe

According to the legend, the Liege waffle (from the city of Liege, eastern Belgium) was invented by a cook of the Prince-Bishop of Liege in the 18 Th century. The Prince-Bishop had asked for a pastry filled with big pieces of pearl sugar. The cook then tried to bake in a waffle maker, a brioche type pastry with pearl sugar blended in the dough. During baking, the smell of the vanilla delighted the Prince and this waffle recipe joined quickly the culinary traditions in Liege and took the Belgium kingdom by storm.
The Liege waffle is a waffle usually bought and eaten warm on the street. They are usually freshly made in small shops. They are smaller, sweeter and denser than “Belgian waffles” and have a caramelized sugar coating on the outside, giving them a lightly sweet flavour. Most are served plain, but some are vanilla or cinnamon flavoured, and can be served with toppings like fruits, creams, and chocolate.

These fun stuffed waffles only take 3 or 4 ingredients and a few minutes to make. They are filled with your favorite pizza toppings like melted cheese and pepperoni and are just begging to be dipped in marinara. They can be enjoyed as a fun lunch, super cool snack or quick and easy dinner option. Plus they are simple enough to make the kids can help assemble everything. Keep the ingredients on hand, so you’re always ready!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Do you have a waffle maker at home? If you don’t I highly recommend you get one. I just got one recently and am not sure how I made it this long without having one! You can make so much more than just breakfast food. It’s easy to clean, and makes a quick meal. For lunch today I thought I would try something new, pizza waffles! I know, it sounds crazy, but it’s like a warm calzone that you can make and enjoy without ever having to turn on the oven. How awesome is that right? You can customize these pizza waffles with whatever pizza toppings you like.

Here is how to make my Pizza Waffles:

You Will Need:

  • Pizza Dough ( I used a premade refrigerated dough)
  • pizza sauce
  • mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Pepperoni (or any other pizza toppings of your choosing)
  • Italian Seasoning

Instructions for making Pizza Waffles:

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Step 1: First you will cut your pizza dough in half. Warm up your waffle iron and spray with oil so your pizza waffles don’t stick.

Step 2: Now it’s time to get out those ingredients. Sauce goes down first, then cheese, then toppings of your choice. Add the other piece of your pizza dough on top and press your waffle iron down.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Step 3: Cook your pizza waffles until they are crispy and golden (about 10 minutes). *Note, you will probably have a little leaking from the cheese and sauce. It’s normal!

Step 4: Top with seasoning and serve hot!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Look. I’ve never been a big fan of eating leftovers. Reheating yesterday’s food just never was that appealing to me. That’s why now we have lots of build-your-own dinners that keep the ingredients separate, so leftovers can be used to create new things.

But that isn’t always an option — like when we have pizza. When we need to feed a group or want a quick dinner and don’t want to cook or go out, pizza is always a top choice. And if we’re going to order pizza, we’re usually also going to be sure we order enough to have it for two meals.

Reheating pizza in the oven is okay. It’s definitely better than reheating pizza in the microwave. But there is one way to enjoy your leftover pizza slices in a whole new amazing way.

Pizza Waffles

Yep. You read that right! You can put leftover pizza in your waffle iron to make pizza waffles — and it is fast and super easy too! These babies are similar to a panini. The only difference is that it is cooked in the waffle iron.

Seriously. Just how good does this look?!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Before you go make your own pizza waffles, you need to know that there is a trick…

If you put a pizza slice into your waffle iron all by its lonesome, it would get cheese everywhere! Instead, you need to sandwich two slices of pizza together, trapping the cheese and toppings inside the pizza sandwich.

Now you’d think this is all you need to do, but there is one more step. You need to cut off the crust. Trust me, two pieces of crust smashed together in the waffle iron just makes hard, crunchy bread, and that is definitely not what you want.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Once you have made your pizza sandwiches and cut off the pizza crust, they are ready to go in your waffle iron. Just remember to spray both side of your waffle iron generously with olive oil or cooking spray so your pizza waffles don’t stick to the waffle iron.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

The length of time your pizza waffles need to cook in the waffle iron completely depends on the thickness of your pizza crust and the amount of toppings.

For our pizza waffle experiment, we used leftover pizza from Domino’s Pizza. We tried it with a cheese pizza, a combination pizza, and a pepperoni pizza, and all were fabulous. The cheese got nice and melty and gooey, the toppings got piping hot, and the crust stayed firm and crunchy.

Leftover Pizza Waffles

Don’t stick your leftover pizza in the oven like everyone else! Instead sandwich the slices together and make pizza waffles in almost no time at all.

So are you feeling overwhelmed by summer yet? Yeah, me too! Mainly, I am overwhelmed by the amount of food I have to supply for my children when they are out of school. They eat all day long and my grocery bill definitely reflects the season change. I won’t even mention all the friends that hang out at Casa Jones looking for a snack or ten. Yes, ten.

Lunch time in the summer is very much a “fend for yourself” type of setting around here. Except for the youngest, they are all capable of preparing something healthy and appropriate to eat for lunch. Not that they always do, but they are capable 🙂 This leads me to my next Kids in the Kitchen Secret…..

When I offered these Stuffed Pizza Waffles as a lunch option to my 14 year old son and his friends, they were all intrigued enough to agree to the idea and were quickly in the kitchen making their own food. They had a blast making them together and found the gooey cheese leaking out of the waffles especially intoxicating. Boys. So easily entertained.

How to Make Pizza WafflesI was inspired to let my kiddos try this out for themselves when I saw it on the Pillsbury website but I didn’t like that they used biscuit dough. Viking Waffles is a functional company that, as you can guess by its name, is all about healthy, high protein waffles. Its original waffle product packs a protein bar like 21g of protein with 10g of fat, 21g of carbohydrates with only 2g of that sugar, for a total of 200 calories. Today, the brand has introduced a new type of protein waffle with an equally well-balanced nutrition profile but a slightly different purpose.

Now available from Viking Waffles are Pizza Protein Waffles, intended to be used as you would a traditional pizza base. Being from the brand that it is, the product does, of course, have a lot more protein than your typical pizza base with a hefty 29g per 90g base. The carbohydrates are actually quite low compared to Viking’s original waffle at 9g with 4g of that sugar, alongside 13g of fat and a calorie count of 260.

Viking Waffle’s new Pizza Protein Waffles is an extremely limited product with the only way you can get being by pre-order. You can secure yourself how ever many waffle-style pizza bases you want through the functional brand’s website with several purchase options available. There is a pack of five at $6.40 per base, a pack of ten at $5.90, a pack of ten at a less cost-effective $5.95 each, then a case of 25 for $5.95.

You have until Monday of next week to get your pre-orders in at vikingwaffles.com, with the brand only planning to make 1,000 Pizza Protein Waffles.

Do you need a recipe to quickly get dinner on the table or even one that allows your kids to help make the family meal with minimal help from you?
Well, we have one for you.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

This recipe was inspired by another recipe sent to us by Katrina Bishop, a family friend, and neighbor who sadly moved away. Her recipe was actually for alphabet pizza, but it called for alphabet cookie cutters that I did not have. So, I put my own twist on it and came up with pizza waffles.

Let’s talk about some fun facts:

Did you know that the modern waffle iron came to us from Thomas Jefferson?

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States and one of our “Founding Fathers” of America.
“Founding Fathers” means a group of men that got together and made a movement to create America.

In 1789, Thomas Jefferson was working as the American Foreign Minister to France. While in France, he traveled and picked up things that he thought were interesting. He shipped back four waffle makers that he had picked up in Amsterdam. So, that’s why he’s said to have brought us the first modern waffle maker.

Another fun fact:

Did you know that the waffle maker also inspired the very first Nike sneaker?
It was called the Waffle Trainer, and the sole of the sneaker was shaped like a waffle. A waffle iron, by the way, was used to create it.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Did you know that when Eggo’s Waffles originally came out, they had a different name? They were originally called “Froffles” which was a combination of the words frozen and waffles.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Pizza Waffles

Ingredients:
1 can refrigerator biscuits ( 16.3 oz)
1/3 cup pizza sauce
1 cup sliced pepperoni
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 pinch of Italian seasoning

Directions:
Heat waffle iron to medium-high and grease with cooking spray.
Open the pre-packaged refrigerator biscuits.

NOTE: I used parmesan cheese “as my flour” for rolling out the biscuits, but in hindsight, I would not do this it cooked too fast and made the top of the pizza dough looked burned.

Using your hands at first, then a rolling pin and parchment paper, roll out biscuits into flat circles.

Top one biscuit with 1 tablespoon pizza sauce, making sure to leave about 1/4 of an inch around the dough with no sauce or pepperoni.

Use the back of the tablespoon to spread the tomato sauce around the dough. Then layer the pepperoni in a circle to cover pizza sauce.
Top with 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese.

Sprinkle with a pinch of “complete seasoning” or Italian spices.
Top that with the second biscuit.
Seal the dough’s edges by pressing the tip of the fork into the dough going all around the circle of dough.

Working with one pizza waffle at a time, place it on the waffle iron and cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.

Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and serve with a side of pizza sauce for dipping.

Pizza, for breakfast!? Yes, it’s true! Sometimes on keto, I get cravings at weird times. Breakfast food for dinner, and dinner for breakfast. In this case, I was really craving a pizza in the morning. So, I thought it’d be a really nifty idea to use a waffle base as a pizza. It worked great – and it even makes it easy to pull apart each quarter and eat it like a slice of pizza.

You can top the pizza waffle with anything you’d like to – scrambled eggs and bacon with some ranch as the sauce. Or, go another route and do a bit of chicken, homemade BBQ sauce, and cheese. The possibilities are endless – but the base of the pizza (the waffle) will stay the same. It will hold up well and provide the perfect vehicle to put delicious toppings into your mouth.

Yields 2 Breakfast Keto Pizza Waffles

The Preparation

  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoonsalmond flour
  • 1tablespoonPsyllium husk powder
  • 1 tablespoon bacon grease
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepperto taste
  • ½ cup Tomato Sauce (we use Rao’s)
  • 3 ounces cheddar cheese
  • 14 slices pepperoni (optional)

The Execution

1. Add all ingredients (except for tomato sauce and cheese) to a container.

2. Use an immersion blender to blend everything together. About 30-45 seconds until the mixture thickens.

3. Heat your waffle iron and add half of the mixture to the waffle iron.

4. Let cook until there is little steam coming out of the waffle iron. Once done, remove from the iron and repeat with the second half of the mixture.

5. Add tomato sauce (1/4 cup per waffle), and cheese (1.5 oz. per waffle) on the top of each waffle. Then, broil for 3-5 minutes in the oven. Optionally add pepperoni to the top of these.

6. Once the cheese is melted and starting to crisp on top, remove from the oven and serve.

This makes a total of 2 Breakfast Keto Pizza Waffles. Each pizza waffle comes out to be 604 Calories, 48.14g Fats, 7.59g Net Carbs, and 30.65g Protein.

Have you tried my recipe for FatHead pizza? It has become THE most downloaded recipe for the entire website. As a result of this, many readers have been asking me for a nut free version so children can take it to school, or for those with nut allergies. Well I think I’ve cracked it with these low carb pizza waffles.

It’s actually embarrassing how many times I have now made these. I’ve learnt to make a double batch and freeze the remainder for school lunches.

Waffles are so versatile. I freeze the remaining low-carb pizza waffles in an airtight container with a piece of baking parchment in between each one to stop them from sticking and it is easy to remove 1 or 2 at a time to defrost.

You can even cut the pizza waffles in half and use as a sandwich with your choice of filling, or grill with some toppings then pop in your lunch box once they’re cold.

TOP TIP :: For birthday parties and sleepovers, I make the pizza waffles in the morning or a day ahead. When it’s time for pizza, I leave all the toppings out and let the children load theirs up any which way they like. Bake the pizzas on baking parchment, write their name next to their pizza waffle and they are guaranteed to be eaten. Such a simple idea and such a popular one. Even the carb lovers love these.

What’s so great about chicken and waffles? It turns out crispy fried chicken and sweet Belgian waffles are the perfect pair. I can’t always have my favorite culinary duo, but this pizza recipe is quick, easy and a pretty darn good substitute!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

My kids and I have become somewhat predictable. Well, when it comes to our birthday meals anyway. I will cook anything for the kids for the special day, but more often then not, the kids and I all want chicken and waffles for our birthday.

I can make almost anything I set my mind to but it takes a special touch to chicken and waffles the right way.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

We have a local restaurant that makes THE best chicken and waffles. The chicken is thick and juicy and it is fried up extra crispy.

The Belgian waffles are super thick and they are coated in almost a sugar crusty. My description doesn’t even do them justice, they are so good.

The first time I tried chicken and waffles together, I fell hard in love. There is something so magical about the way crispy, seasoned chicken and tender, sweet Belgian waffles taste when eaten together.

Drizzle maple syrup and hot sauce on top and let yourself feel the smile spreading across your face. I’m giddy just thinking about it.

What Is Chicken and Waffles Pizza?

I cannot recreate the flavors of my favorite restaurant’s chicken and waffles recipe. Instead, I try to come up with clever alternatives. Chicken and waffles salad (a winner), or a chicken waffles sandwich will all do when my craving hits.

Now with this chicken and waffles pizza in my arsenal; I can enjoy the flavors of my favorite meal without ever leaving the house!

The best part is this meal is made with easy to find, store-bought ingredients. This is pure comfort food and you can have it in minutes!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

How To Make Chicken and Waffles Pizza

I used a thawed frozen pizza dough which I pressed into a pizza pan. Brush the dough with melted butter and sprinkle garlic powder and onion powder over the butter.

Cover the dough with shredded cheese; I used a combination of mozzarella and cheddar cheese, but you could use any combination you like!

And now for the fun toppings….I used frozen (thawed) chicken tenders. You can literally use any kind or brand you like. I chose Tyson because they are my family’s favorite and they taste really good. You just want something on the crispier or with more breading (it will crisp up nicely in the oven).

I cut up (thawed and toasted) Belgian waffles. I like the size and sturdiness of Belgian waffles, but you can use buttermilk waffles if you’d like. Plus Belgian waffles have a hint of sweetness that works well with all the other savory ingredients.

The pizza only takes about 10-15 minutes to bake up golden brown. Serve this pizza with a drizzle of maple syrup and perhaps some hot sauce and you are on your way to happiness!

I like to keep things like and serving this Lemony Kale Salad , Easy Spinach Salad , or this Quinoa Tabbouleh Salad . Keep your side simple and let this pizza shine without the distraction of the side dishes!

Today I’m going to share with you how to step your brunch game up a notch by showing you how to make a waffle bar.

How to Make Pizza WafflesWaffles waffles waffles. I love waffles! Do you love waffles?

How to Make Pizza WafflesI don’t have them nearly enough, yet they’re one of my favorite breakfast/brunch foods. Whenever they’re on the menu at a restaurant I always get them.

How to Make Pizza WafflesRemember when I made these whole wheat banana chocolate chip waffles and told you how my hubby got me a waffle iron and it was such a great gift? Well, I’ve made those waffles a few times, but then my waffle iron was just sitting dormant. The main reason is because I always want to make healthier waffles and sometimes that just takes a little too much work than I want to think about on the weekends.

How to Make Pizza WafflesEnter Bob’s Red Mill 7 Grain Waffle Mix.

The waffles the mix makes are healthy and nutritious and SUPER DELICIOUS and so so SO easy to make! I truly truly am in love with this product.

All you do is mix in an egg, milk, a little bit of oil and stir and voila, you’re done. It really takes the guess work out making waffles. Texture is also something that is super important with waffles, and this mix makes the perfect textured waffles – crunchy and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

How to Make Pizza WafflesAs the weekend was approaching, I was thinking about how my hubby and I were going to be going over to my in-laws for brunch, and I thought about one of my most popular posts how to make a mimosa bar, and then asked my hubby “what do you think of me making a waffle bar for brunch?”

How to Make Pizza WafflesThe question was answered with lots of enthusiasm and suggestions for different toppings.

The day of the family brunch, after a quick stop at the grocery store, we set everything up and had one of the best brunches with this waffle bar I have ever had. It was surprisingly easy to put together, and I LOVED seeing everyone’s unique topping combinations.

How to Make Pizza WafflesFor 5 adults I made 2 recipes of the Bob’s Red Mill waffle mix which made about 6-7 waffles, and then I cut each waffle into quarters. It was plenty of food. The waffles are really filling and 1-1 1/2 (about 4-6 quarters per person) was perfect!

Another thing I definitely have to mention about the waffles is that they freeze really well. After they’re frozen, just pop them in the toaster in the morning for a quick breakfast (another quick breakfast I love from Bob’s are their on the go oatmeal cups that I talked about in this post.)

How to Make Pizza WafflesWhat are your favorite waffle toppings?

Here are the different ingredients and toppings you’ll need to make a waffle bar:

  • 1 package Bob’s Red Mill 7 grain waffle mix (2 recipes from the back of the package made for 5 adults)
  • Fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas)
  • Granola (I used this Honey Oat Granola)
  • Syrups (I had a plain maple syrup and a raspberry syrup)
  • Chopped peanuts
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce
  • Peanut butter
  • Sprinkles
  • Nutella
  • Butter

This jaw-dropping creation using Trader Joe’s fan-favorite cauliflower gnocchi comes straight out of the kitchen of @traderjoeslist.

From cacio e pepe and pasta alle vongole to carbonara, Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi can easily shape-shift into healthier homemade versions of the fanciest dishes at an Italian restaurant. But if you’re only using these little gnocchis to sub into your fave pasta dishes, you’re missing out.

Case in point: These low-carb cauliflower gnocchi waffles from @traderjoeslist, aka Natasha Fischer. Each adorable waffle coming out of Fischer’s tiny waffle iron (Buy It, $10, target.com) is jam-packed with the ever-so-versatile gnocchi—and nothing else. Meaning, there’s plenty of room for innovation. “You can have these waffles for breakfast, lunch, or dinner,” says Fischer. Of course, most waffles are that versatile, but because they’re cauliflower gnocchi (and not inherently sweet), it just makes more sense to have them at any meal, she says. (BTW, chocolate lava gnocchi is a thing.)

For a breakfast that comes together in a pinch, top the gnocchi waffles with a pat of butter, a drizzle of maple syrup, or a handful of fresh berries. When your taste buds are screaming for something savory, smear on some pizza sauce, sprinkle on mozzarella and parmesan, garnish with fresh basil or pepperoni, and lightly toast it in the oven to create a one-of-a-kind pizza waffle that’s way more delicious than freezer-burned pizza bagels. There are simply no wrong answers here.

Not to mention, they’re a great healthy alternative to normal waffles. Each cauliflower gnocchi waffle is free of added sugars, wheat, and eggs, and is loaded with fiber—packing about 6 grams per 4-inch waffle, which can help you feel full faster and keep constipation at bay, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. And if you’re keeping an eye on your carb intake, you’ll be pleased to know that each waffle—which is about 75 percent cauliflower—contains just 22 grams of the macronutrient. That’s only 38 percent of the carbs you’ll find in a plain wheat waffle of roughly the same weight, per the United States Department of Agriculture. Just top it with a jammy egg and feta cheese if you want to up your protein intake. (For an equally delicious, low-carb breakfast bite, turn to the chaffle, aka cheesy waffles.)

Mouth watering yet? Same. Follow Fischer’s recipe below to turn the TJ’s staple into a dish that’s sure to forever change the way you look at gnocchi.

Trader Joe’s List’s Cauliflower Gnocchi Waffles

Makes: 2-3 4-inch waffles

Ingredients

  • 1 package (12 ounces) Trader Joe’s Frozen Cauliflower Gnocchi
  • Toppings (optional): butter, pizza sauce, cheese, maple syrup, pesto, etc.

Directions

  1. Preheat waffle maker. (Note: If you have a larger waffle maker, this recipe might yield 1 or 2 bigger waffles, depending on the size of your appliance.)
  2. While waffle maker is preheating, microwave about 15 frozen cauliflower gnocchi in a small bowl for 2 1/2 minutes. If you do not have a microwave, heat cauliflower gnocchi on stove in a pot with 1/4 cup water until softened.
  3. Using tongs, place the cauliflower gnocchi onto the waffle maker’s hot surface until completely covered. Close the lid and cook until edges are golden, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Remove cauliflower gnocchi waffle from waffle maker with tongs and arrange on plate.
  5. Add favorite toppings and serve.

I’ve been on the hunt for years for the perfect crispy, crunchy fried chicken at home. Turns out there’s one simple secret to that ultimate crunch, and I’m here to share it with 9Honey for an Every Day Kitchen cook-along blow-out Friday.

Are you ready? The secret is cornflakes . Yep, breakfast cereal in your crunchy fried chicken crumb coat. It adds extra texture and cheats its way to a perfect crunch every time.

Jane de Graaff has a secret for her crunchy fried chicken (Supplied)

But it’s not the only secret. The other two tricks are: a. use thigh pieces for the juiciest result with very little fuss and b. make sure you let your crumbed chicken rest before you fry it, to help the crumb coat really stick onto the chicken to get crunchy when you fry it. Simple.

Three easy steps that will guarantee your perfect fried chicken coating every single time. Even better, this recipe is best served up with hot, toasted waffles and drizzled in a decadent amount of maple syrup — the perfect way to make waffles a legitimate excuse for dinner.

You’re welcome. And once you see how easy it all is, you’ll be a fried chicken whiz for your next blow-out dinner.

Crispiest, crunchiest fried chicken and waffles recipe

Ingredients:

  • boneless chicken thighs
  • 300ml buttermilk
  • rice bran oil for deep frying
  • waffles, to serve
  • maple syrup, to serve

Crumb coat:

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt flakes
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ cup polenta
  • 1½-2 cups corn flakes, slightly crushed

Perfect deep fried chicken and waffles (Supplied)

Method:

  1. Line a baking tray with baking paper and set a rack over it. This will be where we put our coated chicken pieces to rest, and the rack helps air circulate underneath and dry that coating onto the chicken. Cut your chicken thighs into manageable, smaller pieces. I usually cut mine into three as I find the size piece it creates cooks quickly and well. Pour buttermilk into a low sided dish that will be easy to dip chicken pieces into. Mix your crumb coat ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Dip pieces of your chicken into the buttermilk, making sure you cover it completely and then let the excess drain off back into the dish. Then roll the buttermilk-dipped chicken in the crumb coat mixture to completely cover. Press the coating onto the chicken to help it stick, then lay the coated chicken pieces onto the baking rack on the tray. Repeat the process until all the chicken and crumb coat is used.
  3. Allow the chicken to rest at room temperature on the rack for 20-30minutes. This will help the coating to set onto to the chicken for a nice, crunchy end result.
  4. Once the chicken has rested, fill a deep sided pot with oil for deep frying, making sure there is enough oil to completely submerge the chicken when cooking. Heat the oil on high to 180°C, using a thermometer to check. Drop a few pieces of chicken into the oil and fry for two minutes on each side, or until crisp and crunchy and golden.
Do not overload your pot – only fry a couple of pieces at a time – otherwise your oil temperature will drop too low and you will get oily chicken. You want the temp to get back up quickly, so don’t add too much chicken in one go.
  5. Use a slotted spoon to remove the cooked pieces of chicken and place on a plate with paper towel to absorb any excess oil. Set aside and keep warm while you cook the remaining chicken.
  6. Meanwhile, heat your waffles in the oven or toaster. Once all chicken is cooked, serve with waffles and maple syrup.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

I have had a waffle iron in my kitchen for years, but because waffles are not something I ever crave or make on a regular basis, the appliance had started to collect some serious dust.

A few months ago I was inspired to wedge my famous vegan ice cream between two sweet and crispy waffles, I thought to myself, “ There has got to be other fun and interesting ways to use this thing.” I told myself that if I did not start making good use of this darn waffle machine, there was no point in keeping it around.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

I had seen some articles hopping around the internet about tossing leftover pizza on a waffle iron for the perfect reheated, crispy hangover treat. I saw this an thought to myself, if that works, then in theory you could make a fresh pizza on a waffle iron couldn’t you? I used my favourite vegan pizza dough recipe and made up some dough the night before in my bread maker. The next morning I started experimenting. The experimenting didn’t take long, since I ended up with a delicious pizza pocket snack on the first try! I messed around with thick crust and thinner crust, and personally I prefer it to be a little bit thinner and less doughy. But you can easily tailor this recipe to suit your personal pizza preferences.

James and I love to make pizza at home, but it’s often so much work, and we end up using every dish we own. But now I make these awesome little pizza waffles and up with pizza in a pinch! If you truly want this to be an expedited pizza-making experience you can also buy store-bought fresh or frozen pizza dough. Just make sure you are reading the ingredient lists; they often use butter.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Waffle cones and waffle bowls have a distinctive exterior cross-hatch pattern on their surface, but they differ from sugar cones in other ways. Waffle cones use white sugar, giving them a blond color, and lighter texture and flavor. This comes from the pattern on the cooking surface of a waffle cone maker or iron. While you cannot create such a pattern without the iron, you can still produce similar results with a nonstick skillet. The taste of the finished cone does not differ from a traditional waffle cone. To ease the task of shaping these into cones, look for a cone mold (cone roller) in a specialty kitchen store or on the Internet, but free-formed cone shapes or waffle bowls still taste just as delicious.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Set a nonstick skillet over medium heat to begin warming.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Combine the sugar, egg, butter, vanilla extract, cream and 1/3 cup flour in the mixing bowl, whisking together to form a thin batter. Add 1 to 2 tbsp. flour if the batter has too thin a texture.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Spray the inside of the skillet with cooking spray and lower the heat to medium-low.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Ladle 1/4 cup of the cone batter into the hot skillet. Lift the skillet and gently tilt it in a circular motion to spread the batter into a thin 5 to 6 inch circle inside the skillet.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Cook for 3 to 4 minutes over medium-low heat or until the bottom begins to lightly brown.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Carefully flip the dough over with a spatula and cook on the other side until browned.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Remove the dough from the skillet and immediately roll it into a cone shape using a cone roller or free-form rolling. Pinch the bottom to close and prevent leaks.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Set the cones upside down on a wax paper-lined baking sheet to cool and crisp.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Repeat with the remaining batter to finish making your waffle cones without a waffle iron.

Make ice cream bowls by turning a small bowl upside down on a baking sheet, and spraying the exterior with cooking spray. Drape a piece of lightly browned dough just out of the skillet over the bowl and press to shape. Let cool completely before removing and filling with ice cream.

Add 1 tbsp. cocoa powder to your cone batter for chocolate cones.

Margherita Pizza Waffles. Welcome to day 2 or Waffle Week!! This is so fun. Here’s another one of the kids favorite waffle experiments we created. Of course we had to try making pizza. Plus, there’s a fun Waffle giveaway at the end of the post!!

Margherita Pizza Waffle Recipe. All of the pizza waffle recipes that we had found had the pizza inside of a dough crust. And we tried that. But the waffles were so thick and the waffle iron had a hard time closing. So we experimented.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

We ended up with a really good pizza in the waffle maker. We discovered that with almost all of the waffle recipes that setting the waffle iron to the highest setting worked best. So once the waffle maker is set to the highest setting and is warmed up, you really grease up the waffle iron and then put the dough on the waffle grill. Then close the lid, cooking the dough for about 2 minutes. Once the dough has cooked a little, then you add your toppings and make sure to put some toppings over the cheese so it won’t stick as much to the top of the waffle iron. Most waffle irons now have a very good non-stick surface. And when you use Pam or another cooking spray, it keeps the toppings from sticking to the waffle iron.

Use Pizza Dough Balls to Make Chicken and Waffles!

How to Make Pizza WafflesChicken and waffles is one of the most American dishes you could make, and they’re great for the Fourth of July, or just offering to hungry customers every day of the week. And when you use frozen chicken fingers and frozen pizza dough, this dish takes just minutes to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pizza dough ball
  • 2 frozen chicken fingers, per serving
  • Oil, for frying
  • Syrup, butter, and other assorted items

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oil to about 375 degrees Fahrenheit; and lightly grease and warm a waffle iron.
  2. Tear off a small portion of the package dough, enaough to fill the palm of your hand when flattened.
  3. Using your fingers, stretch it out just enough so that it’s a full, even circle.
  4. Place the chicken fingers in the hot oil and fry according to package directions until they are fully cooked, usually about five to seven minutes. When done, remove fingers from the oil and place on a paper towel to drain.
  5. Meanwhile, place dough in the waffle iron and close. Cook just as you would a waffle, for about two or three minutes. When done, carefully remove waffle from the iron and place it on the plate.

When both the waffles and the chicken are finished cooking, pile the chicken on top of the waffles and serve alongside some syrup and butter, and whatever toppings you want to offer. Your customers will be happy that you did!

Low Carb Pizza Chaffle Recipe

Chaffles are a keto waffle that only call for a few ingredients and can be made quickly – in less than 5 minutes. Besides being simple to make, keto chaffles are delicious! Chaffles have a crispy outer crust just like a regular waffle.

Keto pizza chaffles combine two foodie favorites – pizza and waffles. These pizza chaffles are savory and contain pizza sauce, pepperoni and italian seasoning to produce a pizza flavored waffle. You could add any of your favorite pizza ingredients to make a customized keto pizza chaffle.

What is a Pizza Chaffle?

A pizza chaffle is a low carb pizza flavored waffle that is primarily made up cheese, egg, pizza sauce and pepperoni. The ingredients are mixed together and poured onto a waffle maker to cook. The result is a keto waffle that is flavored like a pizza! It’s the easiest way to enjoy pizza on the keto diet!

Chaffle Waffle Maker

You can use any waffle maker to make chaffles. A popular waffle maker is the mini waffle iron by Dash. It is small and makes the perfect sized chaffle.

If you only have access to a larger waffle maker, you can still make chaffles. Just pour the chaffle batter in the center of the waffle iron and close it. You don’t need to spread out the waffle batter. The batter will spread out by itself creating a perfect chaffle.

Do I Need to Grease my Waffle Maker?

I don’t butter or grease my waffle maker before cooking keto pizza chaffles. Fat will get released from the cheese as the chaffle cooks; therefore, the waffle won’t stick to the waffle maker.

You can grease the waffle maker you want – it won’t hurt it.

How to Store Chaffles

Keto pizza chaffles can be stored in the refrigerator or frozen. To freeze pizza chaffles, let them cool completely after cooking. Then freeze each chaffle on a plate or pan in the freezer for about 30 minutes. This flash freezes them. Store the pizza chaffles together in a ziploc bag.

To reheat chaffles, you can toast them in a toaster or heat them up in the oven. Some have tried the microwave too.

Pizza Chaffle Variations

Besides making a pepperoni pizza chaffle, you can add your favorite pizza ingredients to your chaffle. Here are a few suggestions:

  • sausage
  • salami
  • cooked bacon
  • black olives
  • mushrooms
  • chopped spinach
  • green onion

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. After a long night, or before an equally arduous day, breakfast anchors our body and helps us prepare. What better way to secure both your mind and body against the day’s challenges than with a euphoria-inducing, wholesome favourite—cannabis-infused waffles.

THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS: MARIJUANA WAFFLES

Hit the ground running with cannabis-infused waffles. OK, so maybe you might not be running in the physical sense, but your mind will be riding intense waves of euphoria. Let’s face it, breakfast waffles taste so good, by adding cannabis they are bound to be a surefire hit. The crucial ingredient in cannabis waffles is cannabutter. For your convenience, we have included a recipe for this too.

If you do like to venture on the wild side and try unique and exciting toppings with your cannabis-infused waffles, see the bottom of this article for some genuinely mind-altering suggestions.

HOW TO MAKE CANNABUTTER

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 7 grams of ground decarboxylated cannabis buds (a strain of your choice)

HARDWARE

  • Medium-sized saucepan
  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Cheesecloth
  • Spatula
  1. Using low heat, melt the salted butter in a medium-sized saucepan. Once the butter has melted, add the finely ground, dried buds and stir for an even consistency.
  2. Simmer on low heat for 45 mins. Stir regularly to ensure the butter does not burn.
  3. Place the cheesecloth over the top of a medium-sized bowl. Strain the butter through the cheesecloth, so the liquid collects in the bowl below. Use the back of a spatula to push as much butter through the cloth as possible. You don’t want to waste any.
  4. Discard the remaining plant matter, and transfer the cannabutter to the fridge to solidify. You will need to leave it for at least an hour. Afterwards, the butter can be cut into blocks and placed in the freezer, ready for when you need it.

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE

The real beauty of breakfast waffles is they go incredibly well with virtually any topping. Maple syrup, icing sugar, chocolate sauce, fresh fruit, whipped cream—anything goes. There is only one requirement with toppings. No portion control. Add as much or as little as you like. After all, you just prepared the waffles, so you deserve to indulge.

If there is a sauce or complement to a dish you like, try adding it to waffles. Over the years we have seen liquorice allsorts, marmite, even eggs and ketchup added to waffles. Blow your mind and your taste buds with our diverse and tasty cannabis-infused waffles.

What is and isn’t allowed in the keto diet?

If you’re following the ketogenic diet, you’re eating low-carb and high-fat meals. Which means you’re not allowed all-purpose flour or regular (granulated) sugar. Butter though, is totally OK.

What makes these waffles keto-friendly?

Almond flour and Swerve are used in place of flour and sugar. (You could also use Stevia.) Almond butter and butter (a full stick!) provide the fat. Remember fat=good on this diet. And these waffles will keep you full and satisfied for hours.

What’s the deal with almond flour?

Almond flour is just finely ground blanched almonds. Yes, you can make it yourself, but we much prefer to buy it pre-made. In addition to being low-carb, it’s naturally gluten free. AND it’s high in vitamin E and magnesium.

Do I need to whip the egg whites?

Yes. Doing so will incorporate more air to your waffles and make them super light and fluffy. It’s the same technique used in our classic Belgium Waffles.

Can I use peanut butter instead?

Absolutely. You should be able to use whichever nut butter you prefer. It’s mostly a matter of taste. Just make sure there’s no added sugar!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Preheat the waffle iron to the regular setting.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl.

In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, 2 egg yolks, and vanilla. Pour over the dry ingredients and very gently stir until halfway combined. Pour in the melted butter and continue mixing very gently until combined.

In a separate bowl (or using a mixer), beat the egg whites with a whisk until stiff. Slowly fold them into the batter, stopping short of mixing them all the way through.

Scoop the batter into your waffle iron in batches and cook according to its directions (lean toward being a little deep golden and crisp!) Remove and serve immediately with softened butter and warm syrup.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Oh my GOSH, I love waffles. We had them a couple of times when we were in Colorado, and no offense to pancakes or anything…but I was reminded just how lovely good waffles are.

Once I got home from the trip, I decided to make waffles.

Then I made them again.

Then I made them again.

Then I made them again.

I fiddled and fiddled (much to my family’s profound bliss) and here’s the resulting recipe, which darn well better be perfect because I’m not making waffles again any time soon. Until tomorrow.

Anyway, next time you have a hankering for waffles, fire up the waffle iron and give these beautiful babies a try. (If you don’t have a waffle iron, you can thin the batter with just a little milk and make pancakes.)

Hot Stuff

You’d hardly call bacon health food, although for many members of our barbecue community (especially the ones on the popular keto diet), it’s a dietary essential.

But there is a type of back bacon made from lean pork loin, as opposed to streaky, fatty pork belly. Actually, there are two: Irish bacon and Canadian bacon. Both start with meat cut from high on the hog: Irish bacon (known as “rashers” on the Emerald Isle) comes with a perimeter of fat, which gives it some of the lusciousness you associate with belly bacon; Canadian bacon has most of the fat trimmed off and is sometimes rolled in cornmeal or finely ground yellow split peas, in which case it is called “peameal bacon.”

How to Make Canadian Bacon at Home

Making your own brined and smoked Canadian bacon is a satisfying project, requiring a mere 20 minutes of hands-on prep time, 4 to 5 days of curing in a wet brine (use of an injecting needle makes quicker work of this step), and about 2 to 2 1/2 hours of smoking. Steven first showcased this recipe on Season 1 of Project Smoke. The recipe also appears in his book by the same name.

By this time next week, you’ll have succulent home-cured Canadian bacon to grill or panfry or to use in dishes like the following:

  • Canadian bacon sandwiches or panini;
  • Eggs Benedict—English muffin halves topped with Canadian bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce;
  • Breakfast hash;
  • Sizzled on the grill or in a skillet accompanied by waffles or pancakes and pure maple syrup
  • As a topping for pizza, such as the polarizing Hawaiian pizza.

Brownie Mix Waffles

I really enjoy finding creative ways to use the appliances that I already have in the kitchen. One of the most versatile small appliances is the waffle iron.

What? You may be wondering how a waffle maker can be a versatile tool, doesn’t it just make waffles? Nope. It can be a real workhorse in the kitchen if you use your imagination.

Of course, homemade waffles are amazing, but check out this list of other creative ways to use your waffle maker.

A quick google search will give you tons more ideas if you so desire, but, let’s get on to the chocolatey goodness of these Brownie Mix Waffles.

This couldn’t be an easier dessert. All you do is mix up your favorite brownie mix and pour the batter onto the waffle maker.

Keep in mind that these are a little crispier and not quite as gooey as a brownie because they’re essentially being toasted on all sides. Also, they seemed to harden when cooled, but a quick trip in the microwave made them soft again.

These are amazing served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and sprinkles. Just think of it as a brownie waffle sundae. Happy cooking friends!

How to Make Brownie Mix Waffles:

Preheat waffle iron to medium heat.

Prepare waffle mix according to package instructions.

Spray the waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray on both plates. Scoop 1/3 cup brownie batter onto the center of the waffle iron and close the lid. (If you have a large waffle maker with four square sections, use 1/4 cup per square.)

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until the waffle iron stops steaming and the brownie batter is cooked through.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Carefully remove the waffles from the waffle iron and allow to cool completely before serving.

We all need a little something comforting today. There’s obviously nothing me or my blog can do about it, but I’ve been working on these for a while now, and I think they’ll just have to do. They rock it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pizza + waffles = CARB DREAMS. These ones are just a little better for you. Plus, not as complicated as they sound and totally possible for you and your waffle maker. Get it out, turn on some super loud music, and enjoy the melty cheese. I present, Protein Packed Pepperoni Pizza Waffles. Jump to recipe!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

How to Make Pizza WafflesFor this recipe, I used my ultimate breakfast go-to: Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes Flapjack and Waffle Mix. You may know I’ve got a few of these recipes in my index which use my favorite mix (my personal favorite: Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt Pancakes), and it’s for good reason. Get yourself some of this stuff immediately, I beg of you. PACKED with protein, tasty and oh so versatile.

I went for savory – pizza style. Pretty sure there’s no way I could mess up with pizza, right? For the waffle mix, I simply added classic pizza seasonings and a touch of finely shredded cheddar cheese. Next, STUFF with mozzarella cheese and your fave pepperoni (example below). Finally, cover with more batter, and make waffle with waffle maker.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

How to Make Pizza WafflesFrom experience I can tell you these are good for any meal of the day. Packing 31 grams of protein and approximately 400 calories, one waffle leaves you satisfied AT LEAST until lunch. Or, put some rotisserie chicken on top and call it dinner. Chicken + waffles + pizza… I’m not going too far, I promise.

At this point, I can’t do much else but hear incredibly insane news hitting me – I want some Halo Top and a blanket. I have a feeling I’ll never forget writing this Pepperoni Pizza Waffles post. Good luck to us all. I’m here if you need me (I’ll definitely need you too) and I’ll always make your favorite food.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Gluten-free Pizza Waffles might be the most creative idea I’ve been sent in a long time. Thanks to my circle of celiac friends that stretch from Upstate New York to North Carolina, I’ve been given a wide variety of recipes — this one might be one of the best.

If you are looking for an easy to make gluten-free lunch or dinner or snack idea, these gluten-free pizza waffles are it. They are fun, easy to make and are dairy-free and free of the top eight allergens too.

Ingredients …

1 box Enjoy Life Pizza Crust Mix (it’s certified gluten-free and free of the top 8 allergens, just like this whole recipe is! You can use the Enjoy Life store locator to find this mix at a store near you, buy from Enjoy Life online, or buy at Amazon.com.)

1 1/2 Tbsp. olive oil

1 3/4 cup warm water (100-105)

1 tsp. garlic powder

3/4 tsp. Italian seasoning

1 1/2 cups non-dairy shredded cheese or real mozzarella cheese

3/4 cup pepperoni (slices quartered)

3/4 cup Italian sausage crumbles

Pizza sauce for dipping

Directions …

In the bowl of your stand mixer, mix together pizza crust mix, olive oil, water, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt on low until mixed together well, then continue mixing on low for one more minute.

Add cheese or non-dairy cheese and meat and mix on low just until mixed.

Scoop dough onto preheated, lightly oiled waffle iron. Amount will vary based on size, depth, and shape of your waffle maker. For mine, I used 1/4 cup batter on each 1/4 section of the waffle iron. So one cup dough total per batch, spread out well. Check when indicator lets you know waffles are done. I checked and then cooked for one more cycle. Your’s may vary, so keep an eye on it so your pizza waffles don’t burn but are cooked thoroughly. Remove from waffle iron.

Serve with pizza sauce or spaghetti sauce for dipping.

It’s somewhat torturous to write this blog post. Seeing that nice absolutely delicious waffle above makes me want to have one ASAP. Like who doesn’t like waffles? They are so simple to make, taste utterly amazing and are the perfect breakfast food……..(20 minutes later)……I had to take a break and get some waffles in my stomach.

So if you are on this page, I am pretty sure you want to know what options to use when it comes to reheating waffles. Well, take some time to read below, as I have crafted a quick little guide that will show you how to warm up like a pro.

Drumroll……The Toaster!

If you have homemade waffles that you have frozen, then the toaster is the quickest and best option available to get things reheated in a jiffy. This is quick and painless, just as we like it, especially if hunger abounds.

Steps

  • Take frozen or cold waffle and place it in the toaster.
  • Allow it to heat up until it is not cold and goldenly crisp.
  • If it is frozen, you might have to keep it in the toaster a bit longer to ensure it is fully reheated.
  • Take out and enjoy.

The Oven is Also Another Option

If for some reason you do not own a toaster, or you have a bunch of waffles that need to be reheated all at once, you could also use the oven. This is going to be a bit longer process, but the result is generally going to be the same.

Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Place frozen or cold waffle on a baking/cookie sheet.
  • Place inside the oven and allow them to reheat for about 10 to 20 minutes or till golden brown and fully reheated.
  • Takeout and enjoy.

As you can see, it is not a difficult process to go about warming up waffles. All the options are relatively quick and you can be enjoying your meal just like that.

The above methods will also work for Belgian waffles. Quick and easy methods that will get you the results that you need. How to Make Pizza Waffles

Can food help keep your brain healthy as you age?

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Did you ever consider how nutrition affected your brain when you were younger? I didn’t think so! But does this sound familiar to you? You walk into a room and can’t remember why you’re there. Or you need to make a hair appointment but can’t recall the name of the salon. Even the “Where are my glasses? Oh, they’re on my head!” cliché rings true to life for lots of people around the age of 50 or so. Taken alone, none of these “senior moments” is too upsetting, but when they become more frequent, it dawns on you that your brain isn’t working quite like it used to. When these incidents start to interfere with your daily life and functioning, it’s called dementia. Dementia ranges from mild to severe, and is generally more common as people get older. Wouldn’t it be great if making some pretty simple dietary changes could help keep our brains healthy as we age?

How to Make Pizza Waffles

What’s your air conditioning strategy in the summer? Some people (like my neighbor) run the A/C all summer long, from May – September. Personally, I’m a big fan of holding out as long as possible to turn on the A/C. I love the fresh air and cross-breeze I get in my house from opening every single window. As long as I can ignore the noise from kids screaming and dogs barking (seriously, what is UP with the loud people/animals who live on my street?), the fresh air somehow makes my small house feel bigger and more open.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

These Pizza for Breakfast! Waffles are one of my favorite no-bake summer recipes. While the majority of my meals in the summer are straight off the grill, countertop appliances that don’t heat up the house are a great choice, too. One of my favorites is the waffle maker.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

If you’ve never tried a savory waffle before, this summer is the time to do it! Most of the time, I don’t even use a “recipe” for them. I just make a basic waffle batter, and stir in some herbs and maybe some cheese. Then, I top them with whatever I feel like eating that morning (or evening) – sliced sausage, grilled chicken, sautéed veggies, mixed greens, etc.

Here, I’ve stirred some oregano, basil, garlic powder and Parmesan cheese into my waffle batter. I poured the batter into the griddle and topped it with a few slices of pepperoni before toasting it up nice and crispy. I topped the finished waffles with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and sunny side up eggs.

10 Ways to Use Leftover Waffles

Whether you dine in with us or order delivery for an at-home brunch with your closest friends, there’s the wonderful possibility that you could end up with some delicious leftovers! But, what are you to do with all of those leftovers? Well, we have some ideas we think you’re going to love.

So, let’s talk waffles! Sure, they’re easy enough to freeze and thaw out later for a tasty treat, but we can get so much more creative than that. Here are some ideas that will turn those plain leftover waffles into new, exciting delights:

  1. Create your own late night dessert. Simply warm up a waffle, and top it with ice cream, berries, chocolate sauce – whatever your heart desires!
  2. Take that dessert to the next level, and use some waffle pieces to make bread pudding.
  3. If you have chicken in your fridge, cook some up for chicken and waffles. Though you could simply order this off of our menu, you can never go wrong with chicken and waffles!
  4. For those cooler nights when you want something more hearty, cook up some chili, and pair it with a waffle instead of the more traditional side of cornbread. This way you get sweet and savory.
  5. Replace that boring bagel with a waffle. Cut a waffle in half, and spread plain or flavored cream cheese on it just as you would a bagel. We promise it won’t disappoint, and you may even drop the bagel altogether once you’ve had this treat!
  6. Make a traditional breakfast muffin more interesting, and replace it with a homemade waffle breakfast sandwich. Top it with a poached egg or scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon. And, if you really want to take it to the next level, add a drizzle of syrup over the top.
  7. Up your lunch game with a turkey and waffle sandwich. If you really want to taste the full impact of the waffle, add some cranberry sauce (that’s right, it’s not just for Thanksgiving) with the turkey, and make all of your coworkers jealous.
  8. Ditch the Wonder bread, and make a waffle sandwich. Turn a PB&J into something special, or fold peanut butter and bananas into your waffle. It sure makes a boring sandwich more interesting and gives the flavors more depth.
  9. Everyone loves a grilled cheese, so why not try a grilled cheese waffle sandwich? We promise it won’t disappoint!
  10. Take that grilled cheese a step further, and make a waffle panini. If you want to stick with the breakfast theme, keep it light with some apple slices and brie. Yum!

See, leftovers don’t have to be boring! In fact, now that you’ve seen how creative you can get with a simple waffle, you may just want to order a few extras the next time you’re in one of our restaurants to take home just to try some of these tasty ideas. Bon appetite!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Fruit pizza. On a waffle.

Who doesn’t want to start their work week off with a giant, colorful plate of yum?

How to Make Pizza Waffles

This is one of those recipes where I was all like: Why did it take me so long to think of this? Surely it’s been done before.

I just knew that I was going to Google or Pinterest “fruit pizza waffles” and find recipes splattered all over the place, but you wanna know what? I didn’t. Wha, wha, whaat?

The only recipe I saw was for a frozen Eggo waffle with cut up fruit on top.

Um…yeah, these are way better than that.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

For the past couple of days I’ve been waking up starving.

I’ve wanted to make pancakes or waffles or french toast or something else super unhealthy and sloppy and sticky and just plain bad for me. I’ve craved nothing but just fistfuls of craptastic goodies for breakfast. Anything I could get my hands on would do.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

I haven’t actually given in to those cravings because I don’t want to start my days badly. I always wake up on the wrong side of the bed so I try to make extra efforts to start the rest of my day off on the right foot. I also try to write sentences with as many clichés as possible.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

So instead of eating something insanely sugary or carbolicious, I’ve made myself a double decker cup of coffee w/ stevia and coconut milk, a giant glass of ice water and shoveled in a couple of carrot cake bites or whatever other flavor date bar I’d been experimenting with the day before.

Now for lunch? I haven’t been craving anything unhealthy, but Will and I got a double cheeseburger and fries from Dairy Queen yesterday, and I ate it with no reservations because the teething monster was finally asleep in his carseat, we were running errands after church and it was cheap, fast, and easy and wouldn’t wake the baby.

Riiiiight. That mindset totally make sense.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

In other news…I have some juicy tidbits to share with you today!

I’ve been doing some soul searching over the past few months. I’ve been really unhappy with my blog for sometime now. I’ve absolutely loathed the design and, quite frankly, the overall concept. The original Slim Pickin’s Kitchen was great for when I first started, and I worked really hard on getting all of the little details exactly how I wanted them, but I felt like certain things have been keeping me from being as successful as I’d like to be.

At this point I think is when most bloggers give up. That is most certainly not the case for me. Changes are a coming, yes they are, and they’re coming very soon. This site will completely transform over the next couple of days so please bare with me if things are all wonky.

Once the new site goes live, I’ll go into more details about what’s been going on inside this head of mine.

Until then…dive face first into these waffles, and I’ll get back to you soon.

How to Make Pizza WafflesRainbow month is closing out with a fun way to taste the rainbow with, what else but, Rainbow Waffles! If you missed the month of March, I was so excited to share some fantastic rainbow ideas with you here. All of them are totally worth checking out with a gorgeous photo tutorial to bring to life some fun food and craft moments for your family.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

And to close out the month, here is one last recipe. And yes, I know it’s April, but it was spring break last week so I’ve been slow.

Rainbow waffles are a TON of fun. I can think of a dozen reasons to make them in the morning- birthdays, as a St. Patrick Days recipe, slumber parties, but the reality is you don’t need a special reason or a reason at all. Sometimes mornings are just about getting your day started right and these will definitely put grins on everyone’s faces. You can easily make the rainbow starting out and going in, going in to out, or even mixed up for a tie-dyed rainbow look.

Its super important to make sure you have a great waffle maker before you get started. Here are two of my favorites for a waffle iron and a waffle BOWL iron. It makes a world of difference to have a great stocked kitchen in how your recipes turn out.

These low carb cauliflower waffles are a breakfast for champs. They are crispy & hearty with 9g protein and 3g carbs per serving – keto, paleo & vegetarian

How to Make Pizza Waffles

We can all benefit sometimes from lowering our carbs and I love creating low carb recipes. This weekend’s edition – low-carb cauliflower waffles! The cool thing is it’s pretty easy to put a keto spin on some recipes by swapping out the high carb ingredient with cauliflower. I’ve done this with pizza and mashed potatoes. Now it’s time for waffles!

I’ve been learning a lot of about the Ketogenic (keto) diet lately because a lot of my readers are asking for keto friendly recipes. I don’t follow a keto diet myself, but I’ve seen it do wonders in shedding weight and improving the health of a lot of people, even close friends and families of mine. The premise of it is very low carb and high-fat, which is similar to the Atkins diet.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

There are less than 3 grams of net carbs in an entire cup of cauliflower. So you can see why it’s such a popular low carb vegetable that can sometimes mimic your favorite high carb dishes. To me, I can always still taste the cauliflower which doesn’t really taste like bread, batter or potatoes. But, to me it makes the dish unique, and saving on the carbs and calories means you can add other items to the recipe, like eggs! Hooray for low carb waffles!

How to Make Cauliflower Waffles

To start, I create “riced” cauliflower. What I do is cut it into florets first and then place it in the food processor and pulse until it kinda looks like couscous. Can you see it? You can also buy riced cauliflower at most grocery stores now. So I totally recommend that shortcut.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Next it’s hammer time. I mean batter time! 2 cups of that grated cauliflower and a little lovin from some cheese, eggs and spices.

How to Make Pizza Waffles

Depending on your waffle iron, these could take anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes. Mine took 6-7 minutes each. You want the batter to be completely cooked, golden in color and crispy. Thank you cheese!

How to Make Pizza Waffles

When it’s all done, you can have these low carb waffles as is with ketchup or maple syrup…both equally amazing! I like to serve it with an egg on top for a full meal. This recipe makes 3 waffles and each one alone is only 3 grams of carbs and 9 grams of protein. Add on the egg and it’s breakfast of champs, baby!
