How to make cinnamon toothpicks

Picking your teeth with a plain, unflavored toothpick can be boring, especially if you enjoy intense and vibrant flavors. You can buy flavored toothpicks at the store, but making your own is less expensive and allows you more creativity and flexibility. You are not limited to common flavors such as peppermint and cinnamon, and you can make the flavor stronger or weaker based on your personal preference. The process itself is relatively simple; with only a few minutes of actual work, you can have perfect flavored toothpicks in just a few days.

Pour enough flavoring oil into the small jar to make a layer approximately 1/4-inch deep. The toothpicks do not need to lie flat and soak in this oil; the wood will draw up the oil from one end and infuse the entire toothpick with the flavor. You can use common flavors such as peppermint or cinnamon or branch out into other flavors like lemon, orange, anise or almond.

Place the toothpicks upright in the jar. You can use as many toothpicks as you can fit into the jar or as few as you wish to flavor. Close the jar tightly and then put it in a cool, dark place. The toothpicks will have a mild flavor after as little as two hours, a moderate flavor after approximately eight hours or overnight, and a very intense flavor if you let them soak for a day or longer. Be careful when soaking toothpicks for longer than 8 hours, as their flavor might become painfully strong and spicy.

Place a sheet of plastic wrap over a baking sheet. Remove the toothpicks from the jar, allowing any excess oil to drip back into the jar, then lay the toothpicks flat on the plastic-coated baking sheet. Leave the baking sheet uncovered in a warm place with good circulation to allow the toothpicks to dry. This may take up to several days. Check the toothpicks daily by touching them; they are ready when they no longer feel oily.

How to make Cinnamon Toothpicks begins by informing you that the toothpicks offered by us are made from real Cinnamon branches and no flavours or colours added.

The only Toothpick that is totally chewable

Research led by Dr. P. Zoladz and presented April 24, 2004, at the annual meeting of the Association for Chemoreception Sciences, in Sarasota, FL, USA found that chewing cinnamon flavored gum or just smelling cinnamon enhanced study participants’ cognitive processing. Specifically, cinnamon improved participants’ scores on tasks related to

  • attentional processes
  • virtual recognition memory
  • working memory
  • and visual-motor speed while working on a computer-based program

Participants were exposed to four odorant conditions: no odor, peppermint odor, jasmine, and cinnamon, with cinnamon emerging the clear winner in producing positive effects on brain function. Encouraged by the results of these studies, researchers will be evaluating cinnamon’s potential for enhancing cognition in the elderly, individuals with test-anxiety, and possibly even patients with diseases that lead to cognitive decline. So go ahead and stimulate your brain with Cinnamon Toothpicks.

Cinnamon can be used in various different ways. Cultures from various eras used cinnamon for many health purposes, as a spice and for flavoring. Cinnamon toothpicks are most commonly used by people that want to quit smoking. However, people on a diet can use them too. Or you can freshen your breath, or simply remove food from your teeth. Here is how you can make your own:

First of all, take a mason jar and fill it with two ounces of cinnamon bark oil. Use enough oil that it covers the bottom of the jar. Also, make sure that you can properly seal the jar afterwards. Another sidenote: the glass should be made of glass and not plastic, otherwise it will affect the soak. You can find cinnamon oil in drugstores.

Secondly, take all of the toothpicks that you want to use and put them in the jar. You should do as many as you can. Over 100 pieces should be an optimal amount. If you worry about making a mess, place a towel around your work area. This makes it easier to clean up later.

After placing the toothpicks inside the jar, seal it with the lid. Make sure that it is an airtight cover. The lid will help keep the oil fresh and help the toothpicks absorb the oil. The next step is to prepare a non-absorbing are to dry your toothpicks. The area should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Lay out some towels or rags for the toothpicks to rest upon. Avoid napking, toilet paper or anything that can absorb the oil.

Remove your cinnamon toothpicks from the jar and place them onto the prepared worksurface. Lay them out flat and spread them out. Re-seal the jar afterwards, to preserve the oil. You can still use it later. After a few hours, check the dryness of your toothpicks. If they are dry, prepare to store them away.

How to Make Cinnamon ToothpicksCinnamon toothpicks are popular for people who are dieting or trying to quit smoking. They also make great sugar free breath fresheners .

Given the many health benefits of cinnamon, sucking on cinnamon toothpicks might be one habit that’s healthy to pick up.

You can buy them but it’s easy to make your own, so why not? Here’s how to make cinnamon toothpicks.

To make your own cinnamon toothpicks, you only need three things: cinnamon oil, toothpicks, and a small Mason jar or other glass jar with a lid.

Cinnamon bark oil is sold in drugstores and health food stores. Sometimes you have to ask for it in drugstores because they keep it behind the counter.

Pour an ounce or two of cinnamon oil into a glass jar, place the toothpicks in, and put on the lid. It’s important to use a lid because that will keep the cinnamon oil fresh and you will be able to reuse it over and over.

Soak them overnight. The longer you let them soak, the hotter they’ll be. Overnight is usually enough to give them just the right amount of cinnamon flavor. If they’re too hot, they might burn your mouth so be careful if soaking them longer than a day or so.

Remove toothpicks from the jar and lay out on a clean, nonabsorbent surface to dry. Don’t lay them on paper towels or other absorbent material because it will soak the oil from the toothpicks. A cookie sheet or surface lined with plastic wrap works well.

Once they’re dry, they’re ready to use. You’ll probably want to keep them in a small, portable container that you can keep in your pocket or purse.

You could use one of those small plastic toothpick containers that toothpicks are sometimes sold in or try one of these ideas: an Altoids mint tin or any small tin, a lipstick holder, or an empty prescription bottle. Just make sure whatever you use is clean!

How to Make Cinnamon Toothpicks

Are you trying to stop smoking? What if we told you that there is a healthy, natural way to accomplish this?

Even though cinnamon toothpicks were rediscovered as an effective method against smoking in the last few years, they have actually been around for quite some time.

Cinnamon toothpicks were invented in 1949 by August T. Baden, a drugstore owner from Kansas. His invention was meant to serve as a treat for the kids in the neighborhood but became really popular in the 50’s and 60’s, helping Mr. Baden to make a fortune!

This article will tell you everything you need to know about cinnamon toothpicks and how they are beneficial to you.

Cinnamon Toothpicks Benefits

As most of us know, cinnamon is very beneficial for the human body. Its medical properties range from lowering the risk of heart disease and cancer to reducing blood sugar levels and fighting infections!

Cinnamon toothpicks also offer a number of benefits. Here are the most important ones:

1. Stop Smoking

According to experts, “flavored toothpicks can help fight the psychological symptoms of nicotine withdrawal” while trying to quit smoking.

Because people who are attempting to stop smoking often miss holding a cigarette in their hand, they’re advised to use flavored toothpicks in order to keep both the hands and mouth busy.

Cinnamon toothpicks are not only much prettier than cigarettes, but they also smell better. On top of that, they help remove the smoky smell in the mouth.

Smokers often have difficulties to get rid of this smell for good, no matter how many times they wash their mouth. Taking 2-3 cinnamon toothpicks a day should solve the problem.

2. Dental Hygiene And Fresh Breath

The toothpicks are made with cinnamon essential oil which acts as an anti-microbial agent and fights bad bacteria in the mouth. Taking cinnamon toothpicks regularly will help clean the teeth and remove the feeling of a bad taste in the mouth.

In addition, cinnamon has that beautiful fragrance which gives you a sense of freshness and helps you get rid of bad breath for good.

3. Reduce Snacking

Do you have a habit of snacking unhealthy food between meals? Or eat more than you should? If you do this, you might end up gaining weight.

Cinnamon toothpicks can help you reduce these practices. Whenever you feel the need to have a snack, just chew on cinnamon toothpick along with 1-2 glasses of water. This way, your cravings will be kept at bay and your weight will remain unchanged. Not to mention your mouth and teeth will be instantly cleaned!

How to Make Cinnamon Toothpicks at Home

Cinnamon toothpicks are available in supermarkets and online, but they’re also very easy to make at home. Here’s how.

Ingredients:

  • regular toothpicks
  • a small glass jar
  • 1-2 oz. cinnamon oil (You can find this last item in most of the health food stores but it is also available in some drugstores)

Method of preparation:

  1. Pour the cinnamon bark oil into the jar, add the toothpicks, and cover with a lid to keep the oil fresh.
  2. Let the toothpicks soak the cinnamon flavor overnight. You can also leave them to soak longer, but no more than 1-2 days.
  3. Take the toothpicks out of the glass jar and place them on a clean, non-absorbent surface such as plastic wrap or cookie sheet. Avoid using any absorbent materials such as paper towels because they’ll absorb the cinnamon oil. Leave to dry completely before use.

Storing Cinnamon Toothpicks

Whether store-bought or home-made, make sure to keep your flavored toothpicks in an airtight container in order to prevent the essential oil from evaporating.

You can also keep them in glass jars with lids, wax paper bags, lipstick holders, regular toothpick containers, or even envelopes; pretty much anything that is portable and can be kept in your bag or pocket. Just ensure that the container you decide to use is completely clean.

In Conclusion

Cinnamon toothpicks are a great solution to get rid of some very bad habits including smoking, excessive snacking, and even nail-biting. They’re also a great natural alternative for keeping a clean mouth and fresh breath.

That’s why you should always have cinnamon toothpicks in your home. You can offer them to your family after dinner or serve them at get-togethers to make your party food better looking and extra nutritious.

Remember cinnamon tooth picks? We weren’t allowed to take them to school because someone might “hurt themselves,” which made them all the more precious. Soaked in fiery cinnamon, sucking on one of these toothpicks was kind of like eating red hots, without all the chemicals and nasty dyes.

I decided, since I have pure, therapeutic-grade cinnamon essential oil, that I would take a shot at making my own batch of “Fire Sticks.” They turned out really well, so when my daughter, Jessica, walked into the room, I asked her if she wanted to try one. She looked at me with a blank stare, “You want me to try a toothpick?”

How to Make Cinnamon Toothpicks“Well, I don’t want you to take a bite out of it, if that’s what you mean!”

She put one in her mouth and looked a little surprised. “That’s really good!”

How have my children gotten through life without ever having tried a Fire Stick? And we homeschool for crying out loud!

How about you? Would you like to make a batch? I decided I’m putting them in the gift baskets I’m making this Christmas. Share the love!

Homemade Cinnamon Sticks

100 plain, round, wooden toothpicks
15-20 drops of Young Living Vitality Cinnamon essential oil
2 T. vodka or Pure Vanilla Extract (not imitation)
(if using the vodka option, 1 drop liquid Stevia will sweeten it up)
1 glass jar

Place toothpicks into jar. Blend together alcohol, essential oil, and Stevia and sprinkle directly on top of the toothpicks. Seal the jar, and distribute the mixture over the toothpicks by shaking. Store in a dark place for at least 48 hours, shaking the jar several times a day.

Once the sticks have been thoroughly infused, remove them from liquid and lay them on a paper towel to dry.

Essential oil-based products (and all food products) are best stored in glass. But, for my gift baskets, I like to put them in mini paper envelopes or muslin drawstring bags (found at craft stores).

You could also use glass tubes with corks, which are super cute. You can order those HERE:

Interesting Facts about Cinnamon:

Historically, the power and pleasure of cinnamon has been used in many cultures for various natural benefits. The most widely used part of cinnamon is its bark.

It is believed that cinnamon supports the normal secretion of breast milk. In addition, a water-soluble polyphenol compound called MHCP is abundant in cinnamon. Do some research on that sometime!

Cinnamon Bark essential oil promotes a healthy immune response, and helps maintain a healthy lifestyle regimen*. Cinnamon has been used traditionally for thousands of years as a spice, and provides a spicy and delicious addition when cooking or baking. This oil includes the naturally occurring constituent cinnamaldehyde, and is an important ingredient in many Young Living products including Thieves®, Abundance™, and Inner Defense™.

If cinnamon isn’t your thing, you could use Young Living’s Vitality peppermint, spearmint, Thieves, fennel, orange, lemon, or whatever your favorite tasting oil is!

Since literally the dawn of man, toothpicks have been used as a tooth-cleaning device. With the advent of tooth-brushing and flossing, however, toothpicks fell out of favor as a tooth cleaner, but were held onto (primarily by men) as simply a small wood stick to chew on. It became a rugged habit for men, making appearances in old Westerns as well as new action movies, signifying to the viewer that the man you’re watching is a badass. Perhaps they are favored by the tough guy because he is so full of fury, he needs to wedge a stick in-between his chompers to keep them from grinding together.

While chewing on toothpicks is enjoyable on its own, you can make it an even better experience by flavoring them. While flavored toothpicks have started to show up in retail environments, they’re going to be far more expensive than just making them at home. Put on your cowboy hat and follow the tips below!

Supplies

  • Toothpicks
  • Whiskey (optional)
  • Essential oils
  • Sealed container (I used small jars)

You can use any whiskey you’d like, but I wouldn’t use expensive stuff. It’s not a waste necessarily, but certainly not the best use of your fancy bottle of Scotch. As for other flavorings, using essential oils is going to be your best bet. Essential oils are concentrated natural extracts of plants, using a distillation process. They provide better coverage, and don’t make the toothpick soggy. Theoretically any liquid will work, but you may compromise the integrity of the toothpick. I got these 1oz bottles at GNC for $4-6 each, and for this how-to I used Cinnamon Cassia, Peppermint, and Orange. The sealed container isn’t necessarily a must-have either, but I’ll explain below why I prefer it.

Step 1: Pour Liquid and Insert Toothpicks

If using an essential oil, be sure to take off the drip spout (the plastic cap you can see lying on the lid of the jar). You really don’t need much — just enough for the tips of all your toothpicks to be in the liquid. You may think you need to cover the whole toothpick, but it acts as a straw, sucking the liquid up into itself over the course of a day or two.

Step 2: Seal and Let “Marinate” for 24-48 Hours

Seal your jars – as it really locks in and concentrates all those vapors. The dish that I didn’t cover (see below) made my whole office smell strongly of oranges. While not unpleasant, it was quite potent after a few hours. Remember, these are concentrated oils (with the exception of the whiskey, of course), so they’re strong.

Interlude: Don’t Use a Shallow Dish

I had seen elsewhere that you could just use a shallow, uncovered dish for “marinating” your toothpicks with full coverage versus just the tips. While it provides a fine end product, it’s far messier (you are dealing with oil, remember) and uses much more of a fairly expensive product to begin with. With the dish, I had to use almost half the bottle in order to completely cover the toothpicks, versus just a quarter of the bottle when soaking the tips in small jars.

Step 3: Dry the Toothpicks

I used three layers of paper towels, and a rag underneath it all, just in case. On the right are the toothpicks from the dish – you can see it had a lot more oil, and it soaked through to the rag. On the left are the Jameson toothpicks, and in the middle are the cinnamon ones. Be sure to keep the oil, as you can use it again and again as long as it lasts (eventually it will all be soaked up by the toothpicks).

4. Find a Case and Enjoy

I used an old Mentos Gum case and mixed up the flavors (except for the cinnamon — that sucker burned the second it touched my lips!) so that I’d have a nice little surprise flavor every time.

A Review of the Flavored Toothpicks

So, how did they taste? The Jameson was actually the weakest flavor of the bunch. It was definitely noticeable, just subdued. For any non-concentrated liquid, I think you’ll have to let it soak for a while longer. I was closer to 24 hours than 48, so maybe that extra day would have made a difference. As I already noted, the cinnamon flavor actually burned quite a bit, almost the instant it hit my lips. Cinnamon oil is potent and fiery. I even let them dry longer to get more of the oil off, but it was no different, and I ended up discarding them. The peppermint was definitely my favorite, and the orange was good too, albeit a little more subtle. Go crazy with flavors — you can get tea tree, clove, apple, etc. The possibilities are really quite endless!

While cinnamon has many culinary uses, it may also be used to improve health due to its high level of antioxidants as well as its anti-inflammatory properties. [1] X Research source Some research still needs to be done in order to understand the full range of cinnamon’s benefits. However, whether you want to use it for health or simply for its taste, cinnamon oil can help you add more cinnamon to your daily life. Not only is cinnamon oil useful in food, but it can be used on your body for its supposed healing and antiseptic properties, as well as around the house for cleaning and insect management purposes. Simply steep fresh cinnamon in a carrier oil, and you will have a cinnamon-flavored additive ready for regular use.

I want to try and make these flavored sticks I know that I have to buy the Cinnamon that comes in the little bottles like you make with rock candy I do believe? I’ve heard that I am suppose to soak the toothpicks in that but I figured that they would be too hot? Maybe not I don’t know. Any directions would be greatly appreicated!!

Purchase oil of cinnamon from a drugstore, cake decorating shoppe or at the grocers. Different types have different strengths. Carefully taste and/or ask for assistance from the shoppe keeper. You can either dip the toothpicks into the oil or paint the oil onto the picks with a small sable brush used only for this purpose. As they are a wood product, they are porous and one stored against another will transfer the scent/taste.

  • freshens breath
  • curbs appetite (I find that cinnamon bark works the best, although grapefruit is also a popular option)
  • improves mood (citrus oils help a lot)
  • energizing (especially with peppermint)
  • supports a healthy mouth (tea tree, Thieves & cinnamon are great)
  • homemade versions are stronger than store-bought, so they last longer
  • Make sure to choose an essential oil that has been certified as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) or as food additives, by the F.D.A.
  • avoid using any oil that says “for aromatherapy use only” on the bottle. These oils are NOT truly pure and/or safe to use in this way. Always, always, always read your labels first!

  • I added tea tree oil ( melaleuca alternifolia) to all my flavored toothpicks because it’s a gentle essential oil that is excellent for supporting a healthy mouth. If you don’t have any on hand, you can certainly leave it out. I also recommend not adding too much of it to the toothpicks cause it doesn’t have the best flavor! 🙂
  • I only diluted the “hot” essential oils, as I knew they would be really warm on my mouth. If it makes you uncomfortable to use essential oils neat (undiluted), you can certainly add in 1/2 – 1 teaspoon or more of fractionated coconut oil to each of these recipes; however, keep in mind that this may mellow the flavor considerably.
  • If you do decide to dilute the peppermint, mojito, and citrus fresh flavored toothpicks, I’d advise either reducing the essential oils in half or doubling the amount of toothpicks used since you will have much more liquid.
  • You will have some leftover essential oil in each jar. Don’t dump it! Save it for your next batch of toothpicks or add more toothpicks at the beginning of the process.

  • Black Pepper (popular option for quitting smoking)
  • Spearmint
  • Tea Tree ( melaleuca alternifolia): I would mix with other oils cause it’s not the best tasting

How to Make Cinnamon Toothpicks

It is the rare product that can both look stylish and promote good dental hygiene. Such is the case with cinnamon toothpicks. For over sixty years, these flavorful little sticks not only helped you rid those pesky scraps of food from your teeth, they also made you look pretty cool.

The toothpick is a simple tool (we won’t bore you with how it works), used since at least the Middle Ages to help dislodge food. We don’t know if anyone ever thought of flavoring the sticks back then, but we do know that a druggist named August T. Baden began handing the cinnamon variety as children’s treats in 1949. Little did he know how popular his concoction would become.

Commonly made from birch wood, cinnamon toothpicks became very popular in the 50s and 60s, an era when a dangling toothpick from one’s lips reeked of coolness. One of the first companies to commercially manufacture them was Harmon’s Grain Products Inc., who marketed them as a product “to sweeten breath and curb appetite and smoking urges.” Alongside the cinnamon variety, Harmon’s originally offered lemon and anise (black licorice) flavors as well, but neither gained much traction.

For decades, small bags of cinnamon toothpicks were a common sight in the candy aisle, with none of the calories inherent in their confectionery cohorts. Today, they are harder to find but still available in stores and online. Sadly, Harmon’s went out of business in 2008, but there are some twenty other current manufacturers of the product, proving that there are still plenty of people out there who prefer the rebellious look, and breath-freshening abilities, of a cinnamon toothpick.

Cinnamon Sticks Health Benefits

Cinnamon sticks have a dozen health benefits to offer.

I found a great number of studies on the internet which suggested that this spice was extremely effective in promoting a healthier lifestyle.

The following are some of the chief health benefits that you can avail by including cinnamon sticks in your daily diet.

Blood Sugar Control

Cinnamon sticks have been known to bring down blood sugar levels.

The World’s Healthiest Foods states that cinnamon can slow down the emptying rate of the stomach after a meal which in turn helps in minimizing the increase in blood sugar.

In addition to this, cinnamon has also been found to be extremely beneficial for diabetes patients as well.

Scientific research has proved that cinnamon can help people suffering from type 2 diabetes by improving their ability to react to insulin.

You can read more about about this in my article: Does Cinnamon Lower Blood Sugar & Help You Fight Diabetes?

Cancer Prevention

Cinnamon sticks have been found to play a role in cancer prevention as well.

According to Organic Authority, there is evidence available which points towards cinnamon having potential anti-carcinogenic properties.

This means that cinnamon can, in fact, be used for treating or even curing cancer.

Although the research conducted on the possible cancer preventive effects of cinnamon is pretty limited, experiments conducted on animals have shown that cinnamon can inhibit the cancer cell growth and even result in cancerous cell death.

Suppression of Multiple Sclerosis

Cinnamon sticks have been found to be extremely effective in suppressing the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis, a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder.

Medical News Today maintains that the cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties which can help it in stopping the progression of Multiple Sclerosis.

Sodium benzoate, a metabolite of cinnamon can stop the production of inflammatory molecules in brain cells, thus suppressing this disorder.

Moreover, researchers have also found that the anti-inflammatory properties of cinnamon can prove to be beneficial for other neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease too.

Arthritis Pain Relief

People have maintained for a long time that cinnamon sticks can help in relieving arthritis pain.

Now, science too has proven that cinnamon might have a role to play in arthritis pain relief.

According to Cinnamon Vogue, cinnamon sticks are rich in manganese which is utilized by the body for building connective tissues, blood, and most importantly bones.

People who suffer from manganese deficiency are thus more likely to suffer from a chronic condition like arthritis and osteoporosis, but those who use cinnamon can have strong bones and remain free from arthritis pain.

Reduces Risk of Heart Disease

While researching the health benefits of cinnamon sticks, I found out that this spice can help in reducing the risk of heart disease as well.

Authority Nutrition states that cinnamon sticks can decrease the levels of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) in the body while maintaining the levels of HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol).

Studies have shown that you only need to consume just 120 mg of cinnamon per day to lower your LDL cholesterol.

By reducing LDL cholesterol, cinnamon sticks can lower your risk of developing heart disease.

Cinnamon Sticks for Weight Loss

Aside from the other health benefits of cinnamon sticks, it is helpful for weight loss as well.

However, this does not mean that using cinnamon is going to decrease your weight drastically.

Cinnamon sticks can slow down your metabolism thus making you feel full.

This would stop you from eating more which in turn would keep your weight in check.

In addition to this, cinnamon also helps in digestion of food too which also prevents you from overeating.

So, all in all, cinnamon sticks can have an impact on your weight, but if you don’t pair it up with a well-balanced diet and regular exercise, then you won’t be able to lose your weight.

Most popular recipe for weight loss and cleanse detoxification is with Cinnamon and Honey.

Who remembers having Cinnamon Toothpicks when you were younger? I absolutely loved them! My Dad and I used to ride our bikes to the closest convenient store and get cinnamon toothpicks in the little zip top bags. I remember one particular occasion that on the way home, on my green and yellow banana bike, I was trying to be cool and do a trick……I hit the curb, flipped off the bike, and the pedal went into my leg. I still have the scar. *ack

Prep TimeВ :В 1 minuteВ
Cook Time :В 45 minutes

  • 1 three inch Ceylon Cinnamon stick
  • 1.5 cups water

DIRECTIONS (For 1.25 Cup)

Place 1.5 cups water into pot or glass kettle.

Add one Ceylon Cinnamon Stick (3 inch length)
(Break the Cinnamon sticks into small pieces for better brewing if you wish but it is not necessary). Close lid.

Only when the Cinnamon stick cools does the balance of the Cinnamon gets released. When the water starts bubbling remove from heat and let it steep/rest for 15 minutes.

As the water cools you will see the Cinnamon will start to release from the Ceylon Cinnamon stick and it will go from the pale yellow color to a lovely golden red color.

Strain the tea through a very fine strainer to ensure none of the small slivers of cinnamon end up in the cup. If you had not broken the sticks into smaller pieces this is not an issue.

Notes:

You always add an extra ¼ cup of water because the water evaporates when you boil it, leaving you with exactly 1.25 cups.

The ideal ratio of Cinnamon to water is 3/4 (75%) of a 3 inch sticks to one cup. But since most cinnamon sticks come in a 3 inch size and we don’t want to break off just a quarter, we used the whole stick and made 1.25 cups which fits perfectly into a oversized mug.

How To Make Cinnamon Toothpicks The Easy Way

If you try to backtrack a little and recall some of your elementary years, you will most likely remember one time when you had a great time making flavored toothpicks. Some kids do it just for fun. Others do it for a school project or assignment.

The popularity of making it has spread not only throughout the continental U. S. Areas outside the country has known cinnamon toothpicks for quite a while now. The secret is not only because it is easy and can be a good past time for people of all ages. It has its hygienic benefits like providing you fresh breath which is favorable for many.

The first thing you have to do is to collect the things that you will need in performing the process. They are all basic. You can even find them at home. They are a set of toothpicks, a clean, empty vial, a plate, and a cinnamon oil.

Just be sure to have all of the materials ready before you proceed. The last thing you would want is to stand up from time to time to get what you need while in the middle of performing the process. Start by getting the cinnamon oil and placing two ounces of it on the empty jar. Get the toothpicks and place them in as well. After that, cover the jar tightly.

Once done, you can now sit back and relax while you leave it overnight. Do not get too excited and jump into trying it out after an hour of soaking. It will defeat the purpose of why you are even soaking the them.

The thing that we want to accomplish here is to have the full scent and cooling effect of the spice be present on the wooden materials. One to two hours of soaking will not do enough. Storing it overnight will ensure that every part of it is covered.

Now let us fast forward to the next day after. This time, you may already remove the contents from the vial. But first, get a plate. This is where you should lay them down for drying. Do not use a fan for drying them up. Neither should you go out and leave the set exposed to heat. Let it dry naturally. It may take some time, but that is an acceptable trade for a best result.

Once they are all dried, you may now go ahead and use them. Make sure to store the rest of them at a clean airtight vial in order to preserve the cinnamon scent. Also, do not throw away the cinnamon oil that you used on the process. It can be preserved and be used in making another set next time. Make sure to place it in the same airtight container and keep it in a cool, safe place away from the reach of children.

So you see, the process is simple. You do not even need to cook and fire up something just to make it. The best part is, you get to enjoy its cooling benefits. Do not miss the chance.

This spice is one of the most suitable for reducing your anxiety for a cigarette because of its similar shape and it provides a specific flavor that will eliminate the urge to smoke. It is not a perfect solution but it should be viewed as a way to control the anxiety and it may be complementary to your treatments to leave behind tobacco. In this OneHowTo article we will give you a few tips so you can learn how to use Cinnamon Sticks to quit smoking and understand how to use them.

  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Water (optional)

To begin let’s talk about your nasty addiction to tobacco. Think about how much your body needs to smoke a cigarette every time you’re nervous or anxious. Doesn’t that cigarette make you feel good? Well, you should know that tobacco actually has no soothing or relaxing effect so that feeling you experience is purely psychological.

So, the first thing you should know is that you smoke because one day you decided to do so, and just as you started, you can stop being stupid and give up those cancer sticks. Yes, it is true that nicotine is addictive and once you start to get used to smoking it is harder to quit. Difficult, but not impossible! And a good way to start is to break this habit is to trick your brain and cinnamon sticks are perfect for that.

How to Make Cinnamon Toothpicks

So, in order to use cinnamon sticks to quit smoking all you have to do is always take them with you, especially in those areas where you have higher levels of stress (the car, work, etc.). With your cinnamon sticks always at hand, it will be easier than ever when your body needs a cigarette. Instead, put a cinnamon stick in your mouth and imitate the act of smoking: hold it the same way you would hold a cigarette, exhale air just as when you do when you smoke, and so on and so forth.

This is replacement therapy. You can help change habits and finally stop smoking. In addition, the sweet taste of cinnamon also kills the craving for tobacco as it is replaced by a new stimulus or pleasure.

How to Make Cinnamon Toothpicks

As mentioned, it is a smoking cessation treatment. It must be accompanied by other changes in your routine as, for example, start doing new activities that will occupy your mind, remove all traces of tobacco from your home (dirty ashtrays too) and relieve the craving with techniques such as the sticks of cinnamon, hypnotherapy or by chewing gum whenever you feel like you need a filthy cigarette.

In this OneHowTo article we tell you how to give up smoking through other aspects that you have to change once and for all. Say goodbye to your life of vice!

They became increasingly popular in the 1950s and by the 1960s they were all the rage. [ 3 ] In the 1960s, Bud Harmon’s company Harmon’s Grain Products Inc. packaged and marketed Cinnamon Toothpicks to sweeten breath and curb appetite and smoking urges. The company closed in 2008 after the passing of its owner. Today, several companies produce a variety of flavored toothpicks from all natural flavored picks to those containing sugar, artificial sweeteners and flavorings.

Cinnamon Toothpicks

Ingredients:
2 oz. cinnamon bark oil
12-16 oz. glass, airtight jar with a lid
100+ wooden toothpicks

Cinnamon has a long history of varied use, dating back to the ancient world. Cultures in various eras have known of cinnamon’s usefulness as a health aid, spice, and flavoring. Cinnamon toothpicks are commonly used to help with quitting smoking, dieting, breath freshening, and the standard use of tooth picks for removing food from between teeth.

Directions
1: Fill a glass or mason jar with 2 ounces cinnamon bark oil. The oil needs to cover the bottom of the jar, and the jar should be one that you can seal with an airtight lid. Make sure the jar is glass, not plastic. This will affect the soak. The jar should probably be 12 to 16 ounces in capacity.
Cinnamon oil is usually available in a drugstore. You may need to ask for counter service to retrieve it.

2: Place all of the toothpicks you intend to soak into the jar. You want to do as many at the same time as you can, so 100 or more per setting is recommended. Toothpicks come in many bundle-sizes, so you should be fine doing up to 500 in a setting if you are so inclined.
If you are concerned about a mess, make sure the jar and area around is on a non-absorbing towel or surface you can clean later. The non-absorbing part is crucial for a later step.

3: Seal the jar. It is important that this be an airtight cover once the toothpicks are placed in the jar coated inside with the cinnamon oil. The lid will keep the oil fresh and allow it to travel up the wood of the toothpicks to complete the soak.

4: Let the soak remain undisturbed overnight. The longer the toothpicks soak, the spicier or “hotter” they will become.
The longer the soak goes on, the more cinnamon flavor the toothpicks will absorb. Avoid soaking the toothpicks for a full day or they may become hot enough to burn the mouth of someone trying to enjoy them.

5: Prepare a non-absorbing area to dry the toothpicks. Do this before the soak is complete.
Make sure this area is not exposed to direct sunlight. If there are towels or rags laid out for the toothpicks to rest upon, make sure they will not inadvertently absorb the cinnamon oil from the toothpicks. So, avoid napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, and the like. Try plastic wrap, cookie sheets, or similar instead.

Handling the Toothpicks After the Soak
1: Remove the toothpicks to the prepared surface. Make sure nothing on the surface will absorb the oil soaked into the toothpicks.
Lay the toothpicks out flat and spread out on the surface. They will dry more quickly and evenly this way.
Make sure you have re-sealed the jar with the cinnamon oil after the toothpicks are removed. This will preserve the oil.

2: Test the sticks’ dryness after a few hours. They will be ready to use once they are dry. If they are still damp after a lengthy wait, you may attempt to dry them manually.
If drying is taking too long, you may want to risk using napkins to dab the toothpicks dry with gentle pat-downs. Don’t risk breaking the toothpicks or rubbing off the oils prematurely.
Also consider moving the toothpicks to another location in case the environment itself is perhaps too humid for drying.

3: Store the toothpicks for later use. There are a number of containers you could use, but you may want something fairly portable.
If your toothpicks originally came in a seal-able plastic container, consider using that again to transport them with you.
A small plastic jar or box is usually best and easily found at most stores.

4: Save the cinnamon oil for later use. Cinnamon has many uses as a spice and health remedy, plus you may want to make more soaks for toothpicks.
Keep the oil in the airtight-sealed jar and place the jar in a cool, dark place.
Make sure wherever you place the jar is away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
Spice shelf life can vary quite a bit, from months to years, so check with your seller.
Cinnamon oil has numerous other uses including killing bacteria (particularly in food), it’s a preservative, it controls the spread of mosquitoes, it can be used as a massage oil, it can assist with digestive problems, and its often used with warm compresses.

Tips
Chewing cinnamon toothpicks can freshen breath, help with quitting smoking, and with dieting.
Even a couple of hours soak for the toothpicks in the cinnamon oil may be hot enough for some.
You can use cinnamon extract. However, it may not have the same strength.
The flat toothpicks tend to have a more open grain as opposed to the polished rounds, so I would assume they would absorb better. You might be able to leave the round ones in longer, though.

Warnings
Letting the toothpicks soak in the cinnamon oil for a day or more risks them becoming hot enough to injure the mouth of someone who tastes them.
This is merely a home remedy, not a medical alternative. Consult a health professional for more extensive methods to deal with smoking habits, diet, and/or oral hygiene.

Olive oil is a bad choice for making an herbal tincture or essential oil. You want to find the actual vials of cinnamon oil–the kind that is expressed by the cinnamon bark. I made cinnamon toothpicks once from cinnamon extract but they burnt my lips so bad that I couldn’t use them. If you go to the Super Supplements website they sell all of the cinnamon oils and extracts along with very good quality cinnamon toothpicks–chewing sticks. These are the best I’ve ever tried. Make the cinnamon oil yourself, it is easy.

Get a large glass jar, preferably amber or green glass. A wide mouth, with straight sides (like in the picture) is preferable for ease in pouting and straining out the ingredients.

Fill the jar as tightly as you can with cinnamon sticks.

Pour the olive oil over the cinnamon sticks until they are covered with oil.

Leave the jar to stand in a warm spot, like a sunny windowsill. Shake the jar daily, to help release the cinnamon oils into the base oil.

small amber bottles for storing the cinnamon oil

After about three weeks, the oils in the cinnamon sticks will have been released into the oil, and you will have cinnamon oil. Strain the oil with cheesecloth or something similar, or just pull the cinnamon sticks out of the oil with your fingers. Bottle the oil in amber glass bottles, and store them in a cool, dark place.

Making cinnamon flavored toothpicks at home is a very easy process. Only a few ingredients is required and one night’s time.

Step 1- Pour approximately 2 oz of cinnamon bark oil into a small air tight glass jar with a lid. See that the oil should cover the bottom of the jar.

Step 2- Place about 500 wooden toothpicks into the jar.

Step 3- Cover the jar with the lid and tighten it.

Step 4- Store the jar overnight. Even though cinnamon oil is only at the bottom of the jar, the entire toothpick will be flavored.

Oil is absorbed into the wood as the toothpick sits and travels up the sticks. After sitting overnight, the entire toothpick will be wet. The longer you soak them the hotter they’ll be. To give them the right amount of cinnamon flavor, soaking them overnight is usually enough. If they’re too hot, they will burn your mouth so you should be careful not to soak them longer than a day.

Step 5- Remove the toothpicks from the jar and place them on a plastic cutting board or non-absorbent surface to dry. Do not lay them on paper towels or absorbent materials since it will soak the oil from the toothpick. Surface lined with plastic wrap or a cookie sheet is best. Spread them out and let them dry. Do not dry the toothpicks in direct sunlight.

Step 6 – When they are dry to the touch, store them in an air tight container to preserve the fragrance and flavor of the cinnamon. Seeing several healthy benefits of cinnamon toothpick, no one can resist savoring its taste and other benefits.

How to Make Cinnamon Toothpicksyimg.com

The toothpick is a simple tool (we won’t bore you with how it works), used since at least the Middle Ages to help dislodge food. We don’t know if anyone ever thought of flavoring the sticks back then, but we do know that a druggist named August T. Baden began handing the cinnamon variety as children’s treats in 1949. Little did he know how popular his concoction would become.Commonly made from birch wood, cinnamon toothpicks became very popular in the 50s and 60s, an era when a dangling toothpick from one’s lips reeked of coolness.
