It is a good idea to keep a back up of your Photos rather than not having one at all. You can use a number of third party services such as Dropbox and Google+ to save your photos and even access them across different devices. Both of these services are free.

Delete old backups

iCloud only keeps one backup for one device at a time and automatically take cares of duplication. However I recently noticed that the backup of my old iPhone, which I no longer had in possession was also stored in my iCloud account, taking up 1.6GB of my available storage. So if you had an older iOS device that you no longer use yourself then head to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage and check under ‘Backups’. If you see any outdated backup then delete it by tapping it on and hitting the ‘Delete Backup’ button from next screen.

Disable apps in backup

If you are using iCloud backup instead of backing up your device in iTunes, then you can save some space by disabling certain apps from backing up. You can disable apps that you don’t want to have a backup for or those who have their own cloud backup set up. To disable apps from iCloud Backup go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage. And from the next page disable the toggles for those apps.

Delete documents and other data

iCloud stores backups for many of your apps. Some of these apps could be those that you don’t even use anymore or those you don’t need backups for. Head to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage and under ‘Documents & Data’ look for such apps. To delete simply tap on an app and from next page tap on ‘Edit’ and then ‘Delete All’.

If you have an iCloud or @me email and use it on daily basis then you might not have realized that your messages and especially the attachments are also counting towards your available iCloud disk space. Back it up, but not too much

The iCloud backup feature is undoubtedly a life-saver, but it can also be an immense nuisance. Yes, it’s highly valuable to have a copy of your iPhone or iPad’s exact configuration in case of emergency, but it’s also really annoying to run out of free iCloud space because of it.

You can use this screen to delete backups and free up a ton of space on the spot, but we recommend you at least tap on a backup first. Doing so will let you manually choose which apps will be backed up next time your device automatically makes one, which can reduce iCloud data buildup in the future.

However, it just so happens that photos can take up an incredible amount of iCloud storage space. The easiest solution to this might be simply to delete your entire iCloud Photos library from the Manage Storage menu, but you should take the proper precautions first.

If you’re really attached to every photo on your iPhone, for instance, you can transfer them to a Mac or PC pretty easily. Apple has a guide on how to do that on its website. You can also turn off iCloud Photos from the iCloud menu if you would rather keep everything on your device.

Maybe just consider buying more space

• Preview data and select the exact files that you want to erase, so avoid erasing important data.
• Completely erase data without a chance of recovery even with most modern recovery software.
• Previously deleted files can also be found out and the program will permanently erase them for privacy protection.
• Supports all iOS file types used on iPhone.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1 : Launch PanFone iOS Data Eraser and connect your iPhone to your computer. And remember to turn off Find My iPhone first if you want to permanently wipe your iPhone data.

Step 2 : Select Free Up Space mode and then click Quick Scan a full space-saving analysis.

Step 3 : After scanning is complete, it is clear that you do have huge space to save. You can tap the Clean button beside junk & tеmроrаrу files to clean up the space.

After that, you will see how much space has been released.

Part 3. Clean up iCloud Space by Managing Your Backups

There is a good chance that your backups are taking up most of your space. If you have backups from your old device, you can just go ahead and delete those.

Step 1 : Navigate to iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage in Settings.

Step 2 : Touch the device’s name at the top to view more details.

Step 3 : Under Backup Options, disable the apps you don’t need to back up. And the data will be removed from your iCloud storage online and won’t be part of future backups.

Step 4 : If you need more space, you can: tap on the old device(if it appears in the list), scroll down and click Delete Backup. Or, go back to the main iCloud interface, choose Backup and disable iCloud Backup for more space.

Part 4. Clear iCloud Space by Reducing Size of Your iCloud Photos

From part one, you can see photos take up most of my iCloud storage. To reduce iCloud storage, you can exclude your photos from your iCloud backups, then download all the photos and videos you have in iCloud to your computer, and then delete all the photos and videos from your iCloud to free up your iCloud storage.

Step 1 : Exclude photos from iCloud Backup.

To do this, go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage > Photos > Disable and Delete. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to restore your pictures from the iCloud backup later.

Step 2 : Back up all iCloud photos to the PC.

You can do that in a few clicks with Syncios iOS Manager. It helps you easily transfer iCloud Photo Stream to PC.

Step 3 : Delete pictures from iCloud.

Now erase all photos from iCloud to create even more iCloud storage space. If you don’t want the new photos to be uploaded to iCloud, you can disable your iCloud Photo Library.

That’s all there is to it. Following these solutions should free up your iCloud storage as much as possible.

Running out of iCloud space? You can do something about it.

Apple’s iCloud service is a godsend for iPhone and iPad owners. These sorts of mobile devices can be lost or stolen pretty easily, so giving users a free and automatic way to back up all their data in case of an emergency is massively important.

It’s a bit of a bummer, then, that Apple only gives us five measly gigabytes of free iCloud storage space to work with. If you take a lot of photos or leave more than one iCloud backup sitting around, that 5GB limit will fill up quicker than you might have thought possible.

Luckily, there are some pretty easy ways to manage your iCloud situation straight from your iOS device. Apple was smart enough to anticipate that people would want to know how to do this and even made a handy tutorial page for it.

However, since you’re already here, here are the easiest ways to clear up your iCloud storage without paying for more.

Back it up, but not too much

The iCloud backup feature is undoubtedly a life-saver, but it can also be an immense nuisance. Yes, it’s highly valuable to have a copy of your iPhone or iPad’s exact configuration in case of emergency, but it’s also really annoying to run out of free iCloud space because of it.

Thankfully, Apple makes this pretty easy to manage. Assuming you’re on the latest version of iOS, open the Settings menu and tap the big panel at the top that has your name on it. From there, tap iCloud to get an exact view of how much space you have left.

It should look something like this:

If you’re reading this, it’s probably safe to assume you don’t have quite as much empty space as I did when I took that screenshot. More on that later.

From there, you can scroll down and manually enable or disable apps on your device from using iCloud. However, what you really want to do now is tap Manage Storage to get an even more exact readout of what’s taking up the most space in your iCloud inventory. There’s a solid chance it’s your backups, so tap Backups to get a look at how many you have floating around.

I probably don’t need to back up Twitter.

You can use this screen to delete backups and free up a ton of space on the spot, but we recommend you at least tap on a backup first. Doing so will let you manually choose which apps will be backed up next time your device automatically makes one, which can reduce iCloud data buildup in the future.

Since a single backup can take up multiple gigabytes of iCloud storage, deleting one will be the easiest way to clear up space in a pinch. Just understand that you’re taking a risk by getting rid of backups.

Photo finish

Apple’s iCloud Photos feature is also convenient, especially for people who take a lot of photos on their iPhone. Accessed from the aforementioned iCloud menu in iOS, you can use iCloud Photos to automatically store photos you take in the cloud.

However, it just so happens that photos can take up an incredible amount of iCloud storage space. The easiest solution to this might be simply to delete your entire iCloud Photos library from the Manage Storage menu, but you should take the proper precautions first.

If you’re really attached to every photo on your iPhone, for instance, you can transfer them to a Mac or PC pretty easily. Apple has a guide on how to do that on its website. You can also turn off iCloud Photos from the iCloud menu if you would rather keep everything on your device.

Maybe just consider buying more space

If you pay one of these per month, you’ll never deal with these issues again.

Let’s say you try clearing out your backups, managing your photo situation, and generally being smarter about what you allow to back up to iCloud. There’s a chance you still might bump up against the 5GB limit because it’s a comically small limit.

At that point, your best bet will, sadly, be to just give Apple a little bit of money. Admitting defeat is never fun, but it might be worth it to never deal with this problem ever again. You can get 50GB of iCloud space for 99 cents per month.

I did that and have never even come close to that limit. Ideally, you won’t have to get to that point, but the option is there. Will you really miss an extra dollar every month?
