How to enable facebook integration in firefox
The latest version of Firefox adds support for native Facebook integration, however the setting to enable it is hidden in about:config. Here’s how to enable it.
How to Enable Facebook Integration in Firefox
Open Firefox and head over to about: config.
You will be given a sarcastic warning about voiding your warranty, just click on the I’ll be careful button to continue.
Now type social into the search box, you should see a setting called social.enabled which will initially have a value of false. Double click on it to set the value to true.
As soon as you do that you should see a Facebook bar appear on the right hand side of the Firefox Window, click on the Log In button.
This will redirect you to the Facebook website where you can go ahead and login.
Once logged in you will be able to see updates and notifications as well as who’s online directly from your browser, without having to visit the Facebook website.
When you update Firefox, it automatically checks your add-ons and updates them to compatible versions when possible. If an add-on can’t be updated and is no longer compatible, Firefox turns it off. This article shows you how to update those add-ons and get them working again.
Firefox checks for new versions of your add-ons once a day and updates them automatically. You can manually check for new versions at any time.
- Click on the menu button to expand the menu panel.
- Click Add-ons . The Add-ons Manager page will open.
- Click on the Add-ons Manager page and select Check for Updates . If Firefox finds updates, they will be downloaded automatically.
- Click the “Restart now to complete installation” link if prompted.
Search for updates on the add-on’s website
Some add-on makers have different versions of their add-on for different versions of Firefox so updating through the Add-on Manager doesn’t work. In this case, an update might be available on the add-on’s website.
- In the Add-ons Manager tab, find the incompatible add-on on the list. Click on the More link to see more information about that add-on, and then click on the link next to Homepage. You will be taken to the home page for that add-on.
- Download the latest version of the add-on from the add-on home page.
There may be other add-ons with similar features that are compatible with your version of Firefox. The Add-ons site is a good place to find alternatives.

The hardware-based isolation technology on Windows 10 that allows Microsoft Edge to isolate browser-based attacks is now available as a browser extension for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
We introduced the container technology in 2017. Since then, we have been evolving the technology and engaging with customers to understand how hardware-based isolation can best help solve their security concerns. We know that many of our customers depend on multi-browser environments to allow enterprise apps to meet various compatibility requirements and enable productivity. And while modern browsers are continuously working to mitigate vulnerabilities, there are still exposures across these complex engines that can lead to irreversible and costly damages.
To provide customers with a comprehensive solution to isolate potential browser-based attacks, we have designed and developed Windows Defender Application Guard extensions, now generally available, to allow customers to integrate hardware-based isolation with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
How it works
The extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox automatically redirect untrusted navigations to Windows Defender Application Guard for Microsoft Edge. The extension relies on a native application that we’ve built to support the communication between the browser and the device’s Application Guard settings.
When users navigate to a site, the extension checks the URL against a list of enterprise sites defined by enterprise administrators. If the site is determined to be untrusted, the user is redirected to an isolated Microsoft Edge session. In the isolated Microsoft Edge session, the user can freely navigate to any site that has not been explicitly defined as enterprise-trusted by their organization without any risk to the rest of system. With our upcoming dynamic switching capability, if the user tries to go to an enterprise site while in an isolated Microsoft Edge session, the user is taken back to the default browser.
To configure the Application Guard extension under managed mode, enterprise administrators can follow these recommended steps:
- Ensure devices meet requirements.
- Turn on Windows Defender Application Guard.
- Define the network isolation settings to ensure a set of enterprise sites is in place.
- Install the new Windows Defender Application Guard companion application from the Microsoft Store.
- Install the extension for Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers provided by Microsoft.
- Restart the device.
Intuitive user experience
We designed the user interface to be transparent to users about Windows Defender Application Guard being installed on their devices and what it does. We want to ensure that users are fully aware that their untrusted navigations will be isolated and why.
- When users initially open Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox after the extension is deployed and configured properly, they will see a Windows Defender Application Guard landing page.
- If there are any problems with the configuration, users will get instructions for resolving any configuration errors.
- Users can initiate an Application Guard session without entering a URL or clicking on a link by clicking the extension icon on the menu bar of the browser.
Commitment to keep enterprise users and data safe
Hardware-based isolation is one of the innovations that enhance platform security on Windows 10. It is a critical component of the attack surface reduction capabilities in Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (Microsoft Defender ATP) and the broader unified security in Microsoft Threat Protection. With the new Application Guard extension for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, customers can extend the security benefits of isolation in their environments and further reduce attack surface. Customers can confidently navigate the expansive internet with protection for enterprise and personal data.
The Windows Defender Application Guard extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are now available for Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education SKUs, version 1803 and later with latest updates.

I cannot integrate IDM into FireFox. What should I do?
Download panel for video is not shown or shown in some wrong place. What should I do?
I have just updated Firefox to its newest version and IDM integration into Firefox stopped working. IDM does not take over downloads from Firefox anymore. What can I do to fix it?
Firefox said it had disabled the IDM extension because it wasn’t compatible. How do I resolve the problem?
1. Mozilla team updates FireFox browser every six weeks, that’s why our team also updates IDM’s integration into FireFox every six weeks as well. The latest version of IDM determines the version of FireFox browser, and it will install a required add-on version automatically.
Please make sure that you have installed the latest version of IDM.
Please use “Help->Check for updates. “ (or “Help->Quick Updates” for old versions) IDM main menu item. Then please restart your computer . IDM needs to replace all its DLL files for changes to take effect. Without restarting update will not work!
2. If you use FireFox version 53 and higher, please note the following:
FireFox add-on reviewers have blocked old versions of “IDM Integration Module” extension until 6.35.5.2 because of new review policies. If your add-on is disabled, then please update IDM to the latest version, and the add-on should become enabled again.
3. After first installation of IDM, or after updating IDM to the version with the latest add-on , IDM will ask to restart FireFox so that FireFox can find a new IDM add-on . When FireFox restarts, it shows the following dialog to confirm the installation of IDM add-on . You need to click on FireFox options button ( arrow 1 on the image) and then on note about new extension ( arrow 2 on the image).
Then press “Enable” button:
Maybe you did not pay attention to this dialog during FireFox restart and did not enable “IDM integration” add-on . In such case you need to enable it manually. Press FireFox options button ( arrow 1 on the image) and then on “Add-ons” menu item ( arrow 2 on the image).
“Add-ons Manager” window should open. Click on “Extensions” tab ( arrow 1 on the image) and find “IDM integration Module” (Internet Download Manager integration add-on for Mozilla ). If it is disabled, you will need to press “Enable” ( arrow 2 on the image) and restart FireFox .
3. New and old versions of IDM extensions
4.1. Please note that because of global changes in FireFox 40 we had to make a new add-on for FireFox with a new ID . The old version of add-on had “IDM CC” name, while the new version has “IDM Integration” name.
Also please note that because of global changes in FireFox 53 we had to make a new “IDM Integration module” add-on for FireFox .
At present time the oldest add-on is “IDM CC” and it supports FireFox browser from version 1.5 to version 26 inclusively.
The next add-on is “IDM integration” , it supports FireFox browsers from version 27 to version 52 inclusively.
And the latest add-on is “IDM Integration module” . It supports FireFox browsers from version 53 inclusively.
Note that IDM distribution has all three versions of add-ons inside of it, and it’s possible that in FireFox settings in the list of add-ons you may see two or three IDM add-ons : the old ones and the new one.
4.2. If you installed our old “IDM CC” add-on manually, then you should press “Remove” button next to it:
3.3. If our add-on is not available in FireFox , you can install it manually. Press FireFox options button ( arrow 1 on the image) and then on “Add-ons” menu item ( arrow 2 on the image)
Click on “Extensions” tab ( arrow 1 on the image). Then press on “Tools for all add-ons” cogwheel ( arrow 2 on the image), and pick “Install Add-on from File. “ ( arrow 3 on the image) menu item.
Then open IDM folder where you installed IDM ( “C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager\” by default).
Here you have 3 XPI files. They have the same name, but a different number at the end. Please look carefully at the following:
Select idmmzcc 3 .xpi for FireFox 53 and newer versions.
Select idmmzcc 2 .xpi for FireFox from version 27 to version 52 inclusively.
Select idmmzcc.xpi (without a number) for FireFox from version 1.5 to version 26 inclusively.
If you selected the right version, the FireFox would show a dialog confirming setup. Depending on the version of your browser, you can see the following dialog where you need to press on “Install” button:
or the following dialog where you need to press on “Add” button:
If you selected an incorrect version of XPI file, FireFox would show an error message.
If you do not know your version of FireFox , please read here how to check it.
I have been asked repeatedly lately on how to get the vCloud Director Client Integration Plugin (CIP) working. I wanted to put this post out there to help you getting it working in no time. It is important to note that, the Client Integration Plugin (CIP) is only needed in vCD to carry out import and export of templates and media images.
To improve system security in vCD 8.20 and higher, the vCloud Director Client Integration Plug-In (CIP) is no longer bundled with the vCloud Director server installation. It must be downloaded from vmware.com. When you initiate any operation that requires this plug-in, the vCloud Director Web Console verifies that an appropriate version of the plug-in is installed in your browser, and prompts you to download and install a newer version if necessary.
Ok, first step first, before panicing and starting with the troubleshooting steps below, please start by ensuring you are using a supported browser. If you are using a browser that is not on the supported browsers list, then you need to shift to a supported one before trying anything else. Remember we have these support matrix for a reason. Below is a list of vCD 9.0 supported browsers:
The vCloud Director Client Integration Plug-in is compatible with recent versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Sorry, Microsoft Edge does not support Plugins, so Microsoft Edge can’t be used with vCD CIP.
Assuming you are using one of the supported browsers, below is few troubleshooting tips that can help you get vCloud Director CIP working:
- First trick to try is to remove your old installed Client Integration Plugin, clean up it is installation folder, reboot your machine, and try to install it again and see if that works
- Below tips categorized by browsers:
- Google Chrome:
- Try Google Chrome, as it seems to work right away most of the time.
- Please make sure to download the right version of CIP for Chrome as it utilze V6.0 rather than the V6.2 used by other browsers.
- Microsoft Edge:
- If you are using Edge browser, please utilize a different browser. As mentioned earlier while it is supported by vCD interface, it does not support the CIP plugin.
- Mozilla Firefox:
- If you are using a newer Firefox version, you will need to tweak it a bit to work with vCD CIP. The way you do that is as follow: Open URL: about:config and accept the risk dialog when it popup. Create new boolean, name it plugin.load_flash_only and assign value false. Restart Firefox and try again. Unfortunately you need Firefox ESR version 52 or below to modify the flag plugin.load _flash_only. This flag is removed in Firefox 53+.
- An alternative, You can download ESR release of Firefox which works out of the box from here.
- Internet Explorer 11:
- For CIP to work in IE11, you will need to add vCloud Director URL to the trusted sites + Enable Compatibility mode.
I have came up with another interesting issue when using the Self-Signed Certs. When using Self-Signed Certs you want to stick with Google Chrome. That has been said, even Chrome does not like Certificates that do not contain a Subject Alt Name, the default certificate for the Client Integration plugin do not contain a SAN and so the CIP is not loaded. To work around that, you will need to follow the below steps:
- Uninstall all the old Client Integration Plugins from the Programs and Features in control panel.
- Download the 2150215_csd-openssl.zip file attached to this KB2150215
- Before you extract 2150215_csd-openssl.zip, please make sure to right click it ==> Properties ==> and hit Unblock. If you don’t do this, it will not work. If you don’t see the unblock button, then you can ignore this as you might be not using UAC in your environment.
- Extract the 2150215_csd-openssl.zip file and copy the csd-openssl.cfg file to the below two locations.Note: If the locations do not exist, create them. C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ssl\csd-openssl.cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Client Integration Plug-in 6.0\csd-openssl.cfg - After copying the files, make sure to go to each of them and change security permissions to include Administrators and your user account with full permissions. If you don’t do that, the installer will fail to use the certificate.
- After downloading the Client Integration Plugin and before you execute it, again make sure to right click it ==> Properties ==> and hit Unblock. If you don’t do this, it will not work. If you don’t see the unblock button, then you can ignore this as you might be not using UAC in your environment.
- Install the Client Integration plugin from the exe downloaded.
- Close and re-open Chrome and test the iso upload.
- If things are still not working, then try to import the cert into your browser as per the below steps:
- In the Settings, click SSL >Manage Certificates >Trusted Root Certification Authorities Tab >Import >Browse.
- Select All Files and click C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ssl\cert.der to import the cert.
Welcome your working vCD 9.0 CIP Upload Wizard.
I hope this help. If you have other tips on how you got it working, please post in comments :).
