Therefore it is vital to know the password of this account, and if you have forgotten it and need to change it or simply want to put a new one, we show you how you can do it from a Mac computer and from a Windows PC.
Change the Apple ID password in macOS and Windows
Changing the Apple ID password can be useful if we have forgotten it, and in fact it must be changed if we do not remember it. In Apple there is the process of password recovery, although we are lucky that this process is not necessary and we can directly change the password in a really easy way from our Mac if we have a certain version of the system.
To be able to change the password from a Mac with macOS Catalina or later we must follow the following steps:
- Leader to System Preferences . You can do it from the top bar by clicking on the Apple logo, from the corresponding icon in the dock or by pressing cmd + space and typing it in the search engine.
- Click on “Apple ID” in the upper right.
- In the left bar, click on “Password and security”.
- You will now find the option to change password, but you will need to enter the password with which you unlock the Mac.
If you are with a Mac withmacOS Catalina or with a Windows PC you can change the password by following these steps:
- Open your browser and go to the official Apple ID website .
- Enter your current username and password in the corresponding box .
- Now go to the “Security” section and click on “Change password”.
- You will now be required to enter the current password and twice the new one.
Rules to consider for the new password
One of the rules that Apple imposes for its passwords is that it cannot be any of the previous ones that you have used , so you must make at least one change. In other words, if, for example, you had “Hello1234” as a password at some point, you should make a change to the “Hello1243” style.
Also, and this is not a rule but our recommendation, do not use predictable passwords such as your phone number, your name or that of a family member and of course nothing that is already referenced in the username itself. Also, do not use only numeric characters or lowercase letters. The most common recommendation is to mix alphanumeric characters in upper and lower case next to signs. For example “Ho? La-quE $ tal”.
Do not worry if you put a password that you do not remember, because thanks to the iCloud keychain you can save the password so you do not need to memorize it every time you have to enter it on any of your Apple devices. It is also recommended not only to use the password as a security method, but a double factor authentication method can also be established.
