Gallagher says Bridge Lofts 'gamble has paid off in a big way' for downtown Bettendorf

Bettendorf as we know it is expected to look very different in the near future.

That’s because millions of dollars are being invested into developments across the city.

One of the latest projects to get the green light is the industrial “shell” building.

That is expected to be built on the southeast side.

Bettendorf city council approved a $2.5 million tax break for the project in October.

While there’s no specific tenant slated to move in, it will be used as industrial space.

The massive building will start at 50,000 square feet and could expand over time by another 100 thousand square feet down the road.

City leaders say this project was about 4 years in the making.

It will be located near 62nd and State streets, neighboring similar industrial businesses.

It’s part of the larger plan to expand manufacturing in the city.

But that’s just one of several major projects in Bettendorf.

The popular TBK Sports Complex continues to grow and the first apartment complex to be built in the heart of downtown is expected to open this month.

With several multi-million dollar projects in the works across the city and more on the horizon as the I-74 bridge inches closer to being complete neighbors can expect to see a lot of changes over the next few years.

And the city leader who has overseen most of these projects from the very beginning is Bettendorf Mayor Bob Gallagher, who joined us for a discussion today on 4 The Record.

One of the most highly-anticipated projects is expected to wrap-up this month.

The Bridge Lofts are located on the property of the former Twin Bridges Motor Inn.

Gallagher said it’s the start of what’s coming to the downtown area.

“That gamble has paid off in a big way,” Gallagher said. “It’s shown that downtown Bettendorf is ready for that market rate apartment-style living. This is a wonderful building with a rooftop, fire pit, you can see the new bridge and the river from most of the units. If you haven’t been down to one of the open houses that Mr. Levy’s had it’s a wonderful place and it’s filling up fast.”
