Confabulation Definition | Dementia Support Forum
Been looking for a good definition of confabulation:
"In the case of confabulation, someone gives false information while maintaining the belief that it is the truth; he or she cannot remember the accurate information."
Was looking up frontal lobe damage, and found this. It helps me because confabulation is one of those phrase we think we understand and throw it around: "Mum is confabulating". I find it helpful to understand people with dementia, as this is why Mum gets so uptight when we think she is lying. So these confabulated notions really do seem true to her, no manipulative element. It also fits in with the 'missing photo' in the Contented Dementia theory (book of same title).
Hope this is useful to someone else. Have a good day, BE
